El Comanche replied to xComancheKidx's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Check the linkage from the peddle. The weld may have broken at the pivot tube. Gord -

Three problems at once

The fuel pump is working. There is no spark. Would the CPS malfunction cause no spark? Any tips on how to access the cps ? Got the brake freed up and e brake release working. Gord -

Three problems at once

Thanks for the advice. Where is the CPS located and what does it look like? I thought it seemed like it may be a lack of gas. How do I check to see if fuel is at the injectors? Did any other Jeeps use the same E brake release? This is supposed to be my reliable parts pickup. Gord -
Unfreezing an Engine
El Comanche replied to Comanche County's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ok when all the liquid potions fail, remove the crank as best you can. Remember this is to salvage what is possible. Get out the sledge hammer and a piece of wood to hammer the piston. When that failed I got my electric drill and relieved the piston of the mutch of the centre and hammerd the weakend remains out. Desparate measures for sure. -
We got the boat out of the lake with much spinning of tires and burning of clutch with our 91 2wd Eliminator. Up on land we let the clutch cool down sitting in neutral engine idling. Then the engine reved up a bit on its own and stopped. Tow truck tried to pull but one tire was dragging. Pulled release handle on E Brake, on third attempt the handle wirh a short piece of cable came off. Truck on flat bed to cottage. Engine turns over but will not start. Questions 1) probable cause of no start? 2) are release handles available ? 3) How can I release the E brake? Thanks Gord

A rag joint is a flexible type of universal joint made with heavy canvas or recycled tires found on the steering shaft in the engine compartment.

You could always install a big truckers air horn. My friend has a small air horn on his bike (not a motorbike} that has a 2 litre pop bottle to hold compressed air. It is loud!

I bought 1 metre it was 55 to 60 inches wide. That covered the roof but not the visors. Use the whole can of spray adhesive. I also found the roof had some surface rust. There was no paint at all on most of the interior roof. Gord

Audi and VW have nice comfortable seats. I had a Passat with cloth seats heated on both bum and back. Great in winter. On high heat it would keep pizza warm. Gord

Does your MJ have a shifter on the steering column? The manual transmission shifter has a jam nut under the knob to aid in alligning the engraved shift pattern. Hold it steady while you twist off the knob.

My Jeep Comanche Question Thread
El Comanche replied to 1tonMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Take a catch pan under the vehicle when you are going to attempt any repair with oil still in the pan. I had that problem on a Toyota Van. The whole bottom of the pan was tissue thin. The screw and screw driver whent right through. What a mess a grinder would have made! -
Find a local electric rebuilder. They can repair yours or provide one off the shelf. I recently got one for $100.

Oil filter housing and O ring Replacement
El Comanche replied to Akula69's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
OK It is Sunday so I will keep the cursing to a minimum. Friday I ordered the 3 O-ring set Mopar #33002970K from Just Jeeps for about $7.00 Canadian. Picked them up and find they are part #4720-363 which is for 93-98 4.0L Mine is a 91. The parts guy says It has been superceeded by this 363 number, and I believed him. Since I had just changed the oil I didn't empty the pan. After cleaning most of the mess near the filter adapter and removing the filter, I find the bolt is a 16mm hex head which came off with no effort. Maybe tightening would have done the job but I had the new rings. The large o-ring fits but the other two are nowhere close. So into the odds & ends box I find the small one to fit midway on the bolt and get the mid size one (1 3/8 ex-large) at Can Tire for 80c. I will put it on tomorrow. Many thanks to those who posted how to do the job on earlier threads. Gord -
Jeep Fuel Pump Assembly
El Comanche replied to jeepdoggydogB's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hello from the Great White North. In the summer I too needed a replacement sending unit. But since none were available, the rad&tank shop where I got a new tank, welded or brazed the crack in the unit. So far so good. Gord :Canadaflag: -
