  1. hey, i'm putting new seals on the inputs on my front and rear axles...already have the seals. if i park the truck facing either direction on a hill, it will leak from them on the front and rear, so time for new ones. any input on how to do it? i've got a pretty good idea but want to know if there's any suggestions out there... oh, I'm taking the diff covers off while i'm at it, and changing all the fluids...just because I noticed some water in the oil from the rear end, and then i can confirm my gearing!
  2. make sure the other one rolls good. not hard to switch the yoke...theres a big nut on the inside of it if you look, just remove that nut and you should be able to pull it off. now's the time to replace the rear seal on the axle too if that's leaking.
  3. don't drill it out next time...build up a weld in the middle of the bolt, then weld a nut to the weld you built out (after it's cooled) and you should be able to unscrew it. but you'll have to do a nut and bolt now, or thread the hole bigger and get a bigger bolt. make sure it's a hard enough bolt. oh, and replace that u-joint now. it's shot. unless you can account for every single needle bearing that was in it....
  4. i agree ironically when I did my camaro swap, i had to use new hoses but didn't have to do anything but hook it up and let it idle for a bit. i didn't drain the steering box at all though
  5. he is i'm sure. i called him out on it :P edit: he ditched the cab...just cut it open in the rear.
  6. example; my bro's got 31x10.50's on his 7" wide rims on his truck. they're basically the same tires as mine (mine are on 8" rims), and were brand new. he's put about 5k more miles on than i have, and he drives nicer than i do, and his tires are worn to about 25%. mind you, that's after putting about 16000 miles on them. by putting something so wide on narrower rims, and running them at anything remotely normal in tire pressure, you are in a sense "pinching" them towards the center, and they end up havint a curved surface on the tread face, and their wear pattern, being curved, allows for less contact on the ground while doing normal driving, and more wear in specific areas (middle of tread) which ruins them. basically, they wear more if the tire is on something that's 3" narrower or more...even running 10.50's on my 8" rims, i'm not comfortable. i'd rather have 9 or 10" rims to evenly displace the weight on the tires so that more surface area is coming in contact rather than less. putting 12.50 anything on an 8" rim is okay if you don't regularly drive it on the road, and run lower tire pressure, but at normal pressures and simple daily driving, it will KILL the lifespan of your tires.
  7. yea but they'll wear funny
  8. lol, i wasn't lookin at the money part...i just want a dana 60
  9. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dana-60- ... 3645QQrdZ1 that...in a comanche...would be killer
  10. HAHAHAHA man alex (grismj) and I have had a discussion or two about this...as well as colton (MJcolton/comancherob?)... it'd be WAY bad@$$ but there's simply no parts available...maybe in a few years?
  11. there was a guy over on NAXJA that had the set up that your talking about and it looked great i like those door alot. I have a set off my old MJ that i junked and I am going to try something like that with them. its the same guy in the first pic look at the buttons around the opening ...and I noticed that guy has a manche rear cab section sittin there in some of his pics. i think he's goin cheromanche? hope so :D
  12. are you looking for a cone filter? what are the dimensions of the area you can fit it in? i recommend a K&N cone filter and that has a 3" inlet...then get some 3" stainless tube for your intake tube and make a mount for the lower end of it and BAM got yourself a nice washable cold air intake.
  13. i'm gonna do these but I'm keeping the spot where the mirrors mount to...I want to keep mirrors and HATE the big ones that bolt onto the side. also, I think I will do the removable door thing while I'm at it...I have a spare set of doors so I think I'll have a removable setup on the half doors in order to mount the full doors back on in crappy weather...or i'll make some nice sealed windows that clip on the halfsys. we'll see how it goes...but I've got 3 weeks of sittin on me arse due to fracturin my foot...i can walk just fine but the doctor says no??? gotta do the 6x3 steel rockers on it, half doors, got the plasma cutter back from grandpa so now i can trim my fender flairs and get rid of the pinch welds. then it's off to find a 8.8 rear to compliment the SOA and build custome LCA's and UCA's...time i have, money i don't. this is project tatersalad btw...i'm debating if i wanna go with a 3.4 or i have a lineup on a TBI 350 with a 700R4 4wd tranny. maybe i can make that work?
  14. lostissues, can you snap a shot of your split rear from the inside...so that we can see EXACTLY what the clip looks like? the problem with yours is that it's far less common than the 3 pane ones, so I very much doubt if anyone has one. BUT I think a suitable alternative may be had if you can send pics of the clip, the spot the part it to clip to would be, and such. I think i may have something you could use...but it would have to be glued unless there's room for a screw or 2? let us know.
  15. thx for clarification on that one...helpin me understand that :D
  16. those rims were on only in the pics, it's got the 8" wide stocker steels on it again. and YES, it is the STOCK 1986 dana 44. it isn't an AMC 20, trust me on that one, and we got it from the original owner who had never done anything to the truck except regular oil changes until he blew the timing belt at 100K miles. it IS a dana 44. ...sorry to contradict, but that's what it is, and i'm not lying. the renault is an odd-enough option as-is, and dana 44 was an option for those :D
  17. if you watch ebay you will see the 4 piece ones sometimes. they were an aftermarket addition, or when you had a broken pane in your 3 piece and took it for new windows...they would put the 4 piece in because it's cheaper than replacing 1 pane. that happened on one of mine...but it had a crappy 4-piece put in it that's actually for an s10. that one's on the junker now and i put a 3 pane back in the one it came out of. have the reciepts explaining it somewhere too...
  18. alright alex. I'll send you pics so you know what it is.
  19. I couldn't find them...
  20. I'd rather have these than tube doors...at least this way I could make some clip-on windows like a cj has. I think they're BA
  21. SOMEWHERE on here is a similar picture...except that it includes ALL of the axle types. a little help Pete?
  22. trade? for part of what I wanted?
  23. i think it would take care of it alex. I'll take pics of it tomorrow for you. it's got the skin of the rocker panel attached to it as well...I plasmad that off along the same lines.
