Transfer case grinding noise
JeepcoMJ replied to scott K's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
first, you have an np242 since it's selec-trac. I'm pretty sure that's the only one selec-trac had. second, you are either A. low on fluid, B have a connection problem on your shift linkages, or C have a junk t-case. I opt for C. -
Rusty's fiberglass baja flares. that's all that is ACTUALLY being made. there has been discussion on it, but there are as far as I have found, no other options. 2 door cherokee quarter panels work nicely...they're the same shape at the top, so if it's just the very top of your flare that's bad, you can replace that and about 3 inches down either side with it.
-
put a stock switch in there, it will look nicer.
-
they DID crush it with the axles under it. it's common to do so with SUV's and solid axles...they can send it in for ALOT of scrap money, and all they have to do is drain the diffs

Rough Country has a reputation for broken coils that is unmatched by any other XJ/MJ aftermarket parts supplier. They are possibly the only supplier more universally reviled than Rusty. If you have had good luck with their products, count yourself fortunate. well then, I think i'm fortunate. remember though, that I have not once done serious offroading with my manche. the only serious wheeling I have done was with my other 86 which has a half-brained redneck SOA lift with some hella huge spacers, stock track bar, stock CA's, and torched off sway bar. no floors, no rear brakes, no e-brake. I'm scrapping that sucker soon as I get the plasma back. RC works GREAT for what I've done...mild wheeling and DD onroad. when I lift the 89 I will be going with an RE 6.5" lift, but want to find rear lift springs for it...I don't wish to go SOA.

yep. disassemble as stated previously, wd 40 or pb blast them, and hope they unstick. mine were stuck when I got them...I got the flapper working, then bolted the seat to the workbench and kicked the front several times...freed it right up!
-
I beg to differ. I bought my '88 XJ new. It has the rocking chair seats, and I know I didn't pay for them. They were standard on the Pioneer, Chief, and Laredo models. not on the base model though...I commonly find more xj's without them than with them. point taken though, as there weren't many base models...meaning that the "regular" brackets would be less common...for you guys :D I like my JY

What year/model Comanche is best

whaaaaaaat?!? ford remains the only truck with straight axle all corner leaf sprung superduty trucks... and in a magazine road test (don't remember what magazine) the F250 diesel out accelerated both GMC2500, and the Cummins (all similarly sized cabs/bed options all the 2 series) even though it was heavier, was quieter db level inside the truck, and stopped faster than the other trucks as well! thats a damn good truck IMHO i HATE all fullsize halftons cept maybe a handful of the dodge SRTs and stuff, but the ford superduty is where its at performance in the long run far outweighs short-term performance. fords won't last as long, they're poorly engineered when it comes to computer control, fuel rail design and positioning (you do after all have to remove the ENTIRE fuel rail and every single coil on a post-00 f150 just to change the spark plugs), drives like a giant tug boat, and has weak diff covers (brand new one on my friend Donny's truck rusted right off in less than a year with at least 1 car wash a week). fords suck. found on road ded, driver returns on foot, fix or repair daily. whichever way you will say it, but fords are, IMHO, worthless. :D i don't hate you for your ignorance though ;) just kidding, to each his own... -
very helpful...maybe now I'll route the fog lights through a relay in my camaro control center rather than straight through the switches... :P
-
I think i need these on the 89. full set front and rear...
-
haha, I pay 9 bucks for the 3.8, the 13 dollar one is for my grandpa's duramax. thanks for looking out. you can come outta your hole now.
-
hey man, I'm norwiegian. If I can tie my shoes right on the first try, it's cause Zeus allowed it to be so... (wow, wrong gods for the norskis...hmm...I must brush up on history) thanks for re-directing me
-
you weren't mistaken. I just don't know who makes them. I merely wanted to offer that a matching set of rears is available :D

read above statement. then don't dis rough country, they perform GREAT in my experience. I assumed that this was an OME kit...and it's representation to me was, pardon my language, $#!&ty at best. now that that has been rectified, I will stay away from this guy AND stay away from OME. I'm not interested in anything that's only available up to 3". I have a 3" lift right now. it hasn't sagged at all, but it's still not enough to do anything serious with...it's just for show and street IMHO

Anyone interested in going in on a parts truck with me???
JeepcoMJ replied to Comanche Joe's topic in The Pub
whatcha need off a 2.8 5 speed? I have one but it's junk (body is rusted beyond belief). the 2.8 runs great, apparently rebuilt within the last 30,000. ax5 5 speed with an np207 tcase, 3.55 gears but front axle has a collapsed coil spring bucket. no title, I'm parting it out and I want everything but the drivetrain...I'm making a trailer out of the box and rear frame (learning body work on this sucker), and the fenders and header panel are going on my dad's truck. doors are my donors for half doors for the 89 I have coming my way. -
no but keep in mind that someone makes fiberglass flared bedsides. Rusty's I think..for like $150 each or something like that.
-
alright, well then I have a beef with this dude...he is seemingly broadcasting this as OME material, when it just has the OME parts. that's why I was appalled...you all spoke highly of them and this lift is just plain crap. I could put together a better lift for another $100 than this dude could, any day of the week. I rescind my hatred of OME and expound my hatred of idiots like the seller

how you gonna fit the ax15 to the 4-banger? dakota bellhousing? if so, get two please one for me, OR let me know where you got the bellhousing, and how much it is. I need to upgrade from my ax5.

Do you have an Amsoil dealer near you? They now carry WIX filters, the 4.0 filter is $7.15 so yours should be close. You can order on line from Amsoil but you need to order a couple filters to cover the difference in shipping. They also carry the full line to WIX filters. Charles for the convenience of 2 miles away to bumper to bumper, and the fact that I ONLY buy new parts through them if I can manage to, and the fact that I get a dealer discount (through JP construction...gramp's construction company demands alot of parts, and I put them in for them...yay g-vans!), why would I order anything?

btw, ford sucks. I'm ALMOST ashamed to be putting an 8.8 in my jeep...except that's the ONE thing ford made right -

I'd ask what your first choice is.... But I'm afraid you'll say "ford". NO! first choice would be a cummins. but...that wouldn't fit, and it's expensive. I really prefer to stay away from any trucks other than comanches. my grandpa's 03 duramax is nice, and a great fullsize truck...but they have diff problems and are known for blowing head gaskets. a 5 speed dodge club cab fullsize with a big cummins and 4wd would be my choice of tow vehicle. but I'm a mopar fan when it comes to muscle cars too so i guess I'm all around dodge. for cars I'm strictly volkswagon unless it's american muscle, in which case I'm definitely a challenger/charger/duster fan. (I had to throw the duster in there...I HAD one that was tubbed for drag racing and Mild street driving (PO ported it so bad that he had to jb weld the water jackets in the head so they wouldn't leak..sold b/c that didn't hold up). -
Exactly! It's a perfect time! It's a good time to go SOA if you're thinking about it, but without near as much work you can stay SUA and have yourself a bomb-proof axle, instead of a bomb for an axle my 8.8 is staying SUA. and it's a giant compared to the D35. same here...stickin with SUA and spending the $$$ on rear springs
