"Oscar" The building of a DD
ComancheKid45 replied to ComancheKid45's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Well today was a busy day in the garage for this truck, Luckly along the way I found no bad suprises and accomplished alot of needed matinence and a few bonus' along the way :D A box of goodies If this doesnt say something about the last time the oil was changed, idk what does....thats an OLD filter The air filter wasnt much better... :ack: I can offically call it "2 Wheel Peel" now......Trac-Lok Confirmend We all know MJ Dana44s are like treasure to us, So i figured Id give my treasure some character 8) I had 1 more full cluster lying around so I figured id throw it in, and with the sensors from the parts jeep It was good to go! I hate not knowing what my Jeeps are doing. However on my test drive after a few miles I believe the speedo cable popped back off or even snapped :grrrr: So itll all come back out sometime soon. I also got the Output seal on the tranny replaced. Overall i got alot done today so I'm happy for that. Still very happy with this purchase! Ill be back with more I'm sure  -

Engine miss after startup....

Man i hate bumping this back up, but the warmer weather is upon myself and this issue still continues to haunt me. I'm about out of options but figured id refresh this for anyone that might wanna chime in... Within the past year the following have been replaced and or swapped with another known good peice, anything related to the truck running ill post up. *New* ECU (due to failure in 1/11) Plugs/Wires/Cap/Rotor Ignition coil (but not the ICU) Fuel Pump/sender Fuel Pressure regulator O2 sensor EGR Valve Map sensor Crank sensor IAC valve Alternator Battery Battery/Alt Cables *Swapped* Coolant temp sensor on side of block IAT sensor I drove a bit this evening and then let the truck sit, I came back a few mins later fired it up and popped the hood to watch if i could spot anything while it was throwing its fit. Didnt see anything but the #4 spark plug wire arc once, and it was definently getting fuel...I'm pretty much ruling out the missing being due to fuel delivery but more towards ignition, and all thats left on that side of things is the Distributor itself. I'm gonna swap that out this weekend with 1 from the parts Jeep and see if that makes a difference, i also noticed if i unplug the distributor from the harness while the truck is running i noticed no ill effects, but I'm not sure if thats pointing me towards anything or not. Anyway, thats where i am now....if you have any ideas post em up, anything new to try I'm all for it. ;) -
Also check your manifold bolts. ;)

"Oscar" The building of a DD

Well I started going over it a bit this evening. Definently needs a bit of TLC but mostly with just basic matinence issues. Ill do my best to keep track of it over time here, but don't expect anything too crazy...but with my mind, its hard to tell what ideas may occur  -

Hey guys, Well over the past couple years Ive caught this addiction to MJs as many of us have, but till now all my Jeeps have been 4wd...Untill this little guy was put up for sale. I had been in contact with the owner a few times over the past year+ and when he decided he wanted a Land Rover, I was the first person he asked when he was ready to part with the MJ. A few conversations and $500 later I got my 5th Comanche :D Overall its a very strong truck still, some minor body rust but a clean frame and the Drivers floor was already replaced as well. Its an 88 SWB 176k miles 4.0/AW4/D44. Lots of new parts installed over the past year and with just alittle TLC this truck will have no problem becoming a reliable DD. My plans are simply to bring this little sucker back a bit of its glory and then probably DD it down the road....for $500 and and MJ in this shape, i wasnt about to pass it up  D44 with trac-lok Interior mostly there, also has a sunroof! 8) A still VERY strong 4.0. Minor body rust... can't wait to dig in! :wrench:

I wouldent wish it any other way! ;)

Here she is, picking it up tomorrow :jump: Sure shes alittle rough around the edges but theres still many happy years ahead for this truck, Ill be happy to adopt it into my family 8) :wrench:

ComancheKid45 replied to xjrev10's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Rustys also makes 2" coils ;) -
I have a lead on MJ #5 for me. Its an 88 SWB 2wd 4.0/AW4/D44. The fella is getting into Land Rovers with his wife and he knows me as a Comanche guy and is giving me 1st dibs. It has alot of new parts and only 172k on the odo. Engine sounds great! and will only need a minor thing to 2 to be a reliable truck again. I told him ill sleep on the offer before i make a decision but after permission from the female counterpart I'm pretty dead set on it now :jump: Ill keep ya posted but will probably be the proud owner of yet another MJ by weeks end :D

 Beautiful!

2.8 or 2.5? Anyway before you go throwing money into an area that really doesnt have much effect on these trucks, when was the last time this truck had a tune up? You would be amazed at the difference just refreshing typical wear items will bring your truck back to life... Plugs, wires, cap/rotor and even a new ign. coil will make a noticable difference. Post up some details about your truck (engine/trans/tire size ect...) and we'll do our best to help ya along ;) :wrench:

Hazard and brake lights
ComancheKid45 replied to starkizer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
With the MJ this IS NORMAL operation. if you study the wiring diagrams both the brake and hazard circuits operate through the same wiring, the turn signals however operate on a seperate circuit. This is also 1 of the reasons its difficult to adapt an XJ wiring harness to the MJ. I'm sure theres some more info behind it but i wanted to let you know theres nothing wrong with your MJ before you go tearing all through it ;) -
Hell yeah, if you got a good lead on 1 and enjoy the simple patterns of lights as much as me, ya can't go wrong....I vote yes, even if its for nothing more than looks

Gave it a workout @ Rausch Creek a few weeks ago.

--- COMANCHE OF THE MONTH - MARCH 2012 ---
ComancheKid45 replied to Automan2164's topic in Comanche of the Month (MJOTM)
Great knowing the stories behind each and every truck. I noticed you must collect other Jeeps as well. It great seeing fellas like you that know that the MJ and XJ won't be around forever and to give every single 1 the best chance of making it through life. Keep it up, I'm sure i speak for many when i say "I'm proud of you" -
O don't you worry, it might be a few weeks but "badassness" is on the way ;)
