We got some bucket seats for it...although they are red, but we will be putting some covers on them. I couldn't beat the price and they are in pretty good shape. Just washed and drying in the sun... (gotta love Florida - 80 degrees) So we ripped out the old bench... Threw in some new seat belts while we were at it... Then installed the buckets... Once they are dry, we will cover them with a nice cover that matches the interior color ;) A full length center console is also in the works.

I appreciate all the input. Keep it coming if you have any more. I am going to the "Used Auto Parts" yard this morning to get a set of bucket seats with all brackets out of an MJ to get rid of the bench seat, so I will do a little looking while I am there to see if I can get what I need. :D

OK...I have found out that it can be done, but it will require a cluster from an '88-'90 XJ/MJ and only minor wiring issues to work as well as just changing a couple sensors to guage type instead of idiot light type. This is the info that I received on another site, but from a guy that is a member here as well. It's good stuff so I thought I would share... Anyone else have any other info to add from experience or research?

Our MJ has the base guages in it with the big dumb looking gas guage and speedo. Is proper wiring in there and is it as simple as just putting the nicer cluster in it, or is there a wiring harness change needed as well?? I noticed when I was putting in a new headlight switch the other day that the wiring was there for the switches that are not used, so I thought that maybe it would be there for the upgraded cluster as well... {crossing fingers}

low end torque problems
BLHTAZ replied to mjstiltheydie's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The Cat was my first thought when starting to read your post, but it would seem unlikely if it has been only 1.5 years. I guess it's possible though as your description sure sounds like it would be a Cat issue. -
I see you made it over from FJOA  When did you get a Comanche? Welcome, RichHey Rich...Yea, Carmine (cabz) told me about this site. We bought the MJ about 4-5 weeks ago now :D . Yes...pinion shims can be had at most any 4x4 shop or lift kit manufacturer. Most knowledgeable 4x4 shops should be able to guide you to getting the correct shim for your situation.
-
Your welcome. I am new to this board and Comanche stuff, but I have been in the automotive/truck/4x4 business for many years and have installed quite a few lifts, so that is one thing I know for sure. :D
-
Sweet!! Milemarker is making a much better winch now compared to a few years ago. I have one too and you will like it. :D
-
I hope everyone had a wonderful Joy filled day!!
-
Pinion shims should be between the block and spring perch. I have never seen anyone put them on top of a block, but yes, you are correct in the idea that you should get rid of the blocks.

OK...it appears that they are a private label brand called "Z-Racing" sold by Sears...
-
Well...I picked them up yesterday, but they have no markings anywhere to tell what they are. GUess it's back to searching for now...
-
That was my first thought, but I have not been able to find them on any website...including American Racing. I know I have seen them before, but...I guess I will know at about 9:30 tomorrow morning when I go get them. ;)
-
Well...we will have them tomorrow anyway. Not sure what brand of wheel it is, but the guy has only had them a short time, so the wheels and tires are in great shape. :D We will likely be selling the tires as we want something a little more aggressive, but the wheels are sweet. Now to get the 3' lift to make them fit.
-
Are you running stock wheels? If so, you could fix the problem by getting some aftermarket wheels with a shallower back spacing to compensate for the larger tires. If you look at a lot of lift kits, they will tell yo uthat you need a different wheel to run the bigger tires. I think it's BDS that makes a curved lower control arm for them to allow you to run the bigger tires on stock wheels and they won't rub.
-
No...you're not an idiot by any means. That is actually a quite common misconception that I have seen many times in my years of working on/with vehicles. ;) There is no such thing as a stupid question...especially if it saves you grief/money :D .
-
As for the quality, yes, they are good. I don't know about fitment as I am fairly new to the MJ thing right now, but have a lot of experience with Wranglers (YJ mainly) and have dealt with Skyjacker on TJ's.

Vacuum connector from NP231?
BLHTAZ replied to BRC 88MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just got 4 of those little rubber vacuum caps and covered the connections and left the switch where it is. -
Yes, it would be normal for it to suck air in that way, and as stated, you should never check the oil while running as it will appear low and you will over fill it if you add more.

Who knows about xj buckets in an mj?
BLHTAZ replied to Scott86mj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have started investigating doing this too, so I was real happy to see this thread. From the previously posted picture of the seat brackets, it would appear that since I have a bench seat now, that I am going to have to find new brackets to go in it for the buckets...right?? -
Well...the wife & I are long time YJ lovers and will always have one. We just bought the '88 MJ and are already in love with it too... I am Brent... The wife is Tina... The MJ is "Mighty Joe" ;) :D (Tina named it). Anyway...here it is.

Just a test to be sure I am set up correctly...
