  1. Thanks for the replies. I had picked up on the 90 degree rotation as that's how I removed the handles from the XJ door after taking the screws out. Did not know about the clips, thought the door metal was maybe punched with that oval hole shape. Back to pull-a-part after I find the door panel removal video again. Are the clips screwed or riveted to the door or do they just snap in? Eagle - how long have you been working with Comanches? I've noticed that there are a few of you guys on the forum who always seem to have the answer or know where to find it. Thanks to all of you for being great resources for us Comanche neophytes!
  2. Do the doors in Comanches (88 Pioneer in particular) have the holes for the hockey stick handles pre-punched/drilled? Picked up a grey set at pull-a-part the other day and never thought to pull the door panel to see what the hole looks like. Is it shaped like the stud on the upper end of the handle?
  3. Oops - that would be Aficionado, wouldn't it.
  4. Thanks to you both - Aficianado and Addict - for the information. I've got the interior out now - repairing floor rust, installing buckets, dyeing carpet, checking fuse box, etc, etc, -so it's a good time to replace the boot. I've learned just enough from this forum to be dangerous.
  5. I would like to find a source for the lower boot that fits between the floor and the shifter. My upper boot looks okay. If/after I find one I'll have to figure out how the upper shifter rod comes off the stub shaft so I can get the lower boot on the stub shaft. (BA10/5)
  6. OK - I've seen the NAPA part numbers for the vacuum hose assemblies posted on the the tech forum but can't seem to locate them again. Does anyone have them or a link to find them?
  7. Mine seemed to have the thin clear film on each side of a slightly thicker dark brown gasket material that was brittle. Probably from the heat. Glad you came back with the high temp RTV as it confirmed what I was thinking about doing. I'll try to get some pics if I can figure out how to transfer them from my phone.
  8. The inner boot in my 88 - 4.0 L has more of an oval shape.
  9. I took my valve cover off to change the gasket and see how the top end looked. Cleaned up the valve cover including removing the two "stacks" that are under the CCV and vacuum fittings. Found a brass "flapper" under each stack. Unfortunately, when I took the stacks off the gaskets on both sides of the flappers crumbled. I have the valve cover cleaned, painted and ready to put back on but need new gaskets for the stacks? The old gaskets were about 1/32" thick or less. Any suggest a material that i can cut gaskets from that will handle the heat and oil vapor? It's an 88, 4.0L. :help:
