  1. So I went on this 400 mile, round trip, get away this morning and came back with this: It came from an '89 Pioneer and has been sitting on a shelf for the last 14 years! Cost me $250 plus the gas to go get it. Over all, this thing is solid! I thought that my truck box was okay looking, but when I got back and saw them next to each other... well... I was a little disapointed in what I was happy with for so many years. The floor is well used, but it is just as solid as the rest of it. There is one little catch, however... the front left corner has a small dent that I'm pretty sure will come out with a slide hammer fairly easy. Over all, this box is super straight and is a huge jump in time for me instead of fabricating new lower panels for my box. Old: New: Before I left the salvage yard, I asked the guy behind the desk if there was anything left of the rest of the truck... a front axle, a fender, and the spare tire holder. Wait! They took off the spare tire holder, but they left the taillights and the tailgate?! Oh well. I've got two good tailgates now and two extra sets of taillights. Can't wait to prep this for paint... still want to get doors (want to go '97 and newer for the one piece door glass) and maybe a right fender.
  2. I think I almost started to tear up reading this and thinking of mine... Under surgery for over two years now!!! I have to admit, even without it being road legal, anytime I need to move it out of my shop I just have to tear it around the block atleast once! Open exhaust, no header panel, no tail lights... It's like having a conversation with an old friend, isn't it?
  3. Old picture of the old truck... this little thing never let me down when it came to hauling anything!
  4. I don't have a matching helmet, but I do have this: I tried and match my dad's first Huffy: "2004 Ford Mustang performance green" is was as close as I could find in a factory color (easier for touch-ups later).
  5. Not to hijack or anything... but VWs mix so well with Jeeps!!! Here's mine: it a '72 the I got when I was 16 and I stripped it down to nothing and started over. Cool Beetle... gotta love the two tone!
  6. after saying he wants to lower it, he found an unbeatable deal on a 5 inch lift kit, so up it goes! :clapping: at least thats my guess What about that '98 XJ? Maybe a '98 Eliminator in the works? :dunno:
  7. Totally on the edge of my seat!
  8. ^ Thinks I'm a stalker
  9. Got a few things done: painted the front diff cover and filled it with gear oil... YAY! Mobility!
  10. Thanks DirtEatR! That bumper is a custom build unit I made about two years ago. It's getting the ends cut in a little but so it'll fit on the red truck without cutting the box corners... that motor is a lot of fun too!
  11. I figured this topic would go on for just a day... maybe into the next. AWESOME!
  12. You wouldn't believe what people think is made of old up here in Minnesota. "Rusty? Floors gone? No motor, no trans?... but it looks old! Must be worth at least a couple thousand! I saw one just like it on that Barret Jackson... so it must be worth it!"
  13. Thanks! Always nice to see another Eliminator... gotta love those long stripes!
  14. Thanks dude! Actually, I teach Welding Technology!
  15. I have to agree with that!
  16. Thanks for reading!
  17. That's a custom unit made of 1/4" stainless. It's going to be in the way when the winch bumper goes on though... so it's gonna go on the shelf for now. Also, gotta wait for getting the new-to-me box. My trailer is held up for a few weeks with my YJ buddy... that's what I get for being "that guy with the trailer". :shake:
  18. Going to get my "new" box this Friday... fingers crossed for good box sides!
  19. ...forgot to mention: Feb. 14th is my birthday! At the very least, she takes ME out each year!
  20. ^What a guy!
  21. So what everybody up to today when we should be spending time with or significant others? Me? 50 hour Trivia contest... but she's here too so it's cool, right?
  22. Good news! I just found a box somewhat local to me... only about a four hour drive one way... The guy said it has been on his shelf for about 14 years! Hoping for the best.
  23. Yeah... I thought about doing that, but my main problem is the rear lower corners (all round and stuff). I like the look of a full box, but maybe I should just cut the corners off and make up a bumper that wraps around from wheel well to wheel well.
  24. I'm working on my '88 Eliminator and the lower four inches of my box is in tough shape... dissapointing because of the shape of the rest of the truck. Does anyone know if new box sides are available anywhere?
