  1. I did not know the transfer case for the 86 model was different from the other years! Thank you for the essential information Eagle. No reason to buy this now I guess, especially since what I thought was dirt and mud in rust. I can see bubbling too, now that I take a closer look.
  2. While doing my daily search for a Comanche today, I came upon this: http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/cto/4703895970.html I plan on giving the guy a phone call tomorrow. But I wanted to see what you knowledgeable folks think. The body looks solid, although closer inspection will obviously be needed. It has the transfer case I want as well, and the price is low for what it is. The engine isn't what I want, nor the transmission, but is that enough to be swayed on a truck that looks solid for the price? Hopefully I can either get what's in there working until I can get the engine and transmission combo I want, or if I can't get it running, just wait until I swap in what I want. I normally wouldn't look twice at a Comanche with these options, but it's hard to find a solid one at this price, so I feel somewhat swayed. What are your honest opinions on this one?
  3. If I believed in coincidence, I would say my looking at items related to this subject today would be one. But I don't believe in coincidence. However, I have seen Posi-Lock recommended on a few forums in my searching today. Have a link: http://4x4posi-lok.com/app_jeep.html
  4. And today I learned you can get parts for the diesel jeep/renault engines from Winnebago.
  5. That is ridiculously far from me... but I really dig that paint scheme.
  6. Raritas? Latin for rare, though I'm sure a lot of you know that. Rare truck, hard to find parts, etc.
  7. You can never have too many Comanches, especially considering how rare this one is.
  8. Was doing some browsing for a Comanche and found these. Thought they deserved some attention. http://www.riversideautoplex.com/used/Jeep/1991-Jeep-Comanche-e7722c9c0a0a00026879004bfb472064.htm 1991 Pioneer at a dealership in Oklahoma. 276k, 4.0L, 2WD, Manual, $2000. No pictures, but if anyone has seen this, it would be nice to know what kind of shape it's in. http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/4422367496.html 1987 Non-runner in Moorsevile, IN, $650. Owner believes it's a hacked up engine harness that came with the vehicle. Motor died and he had the bottom end rebuilt somewhat and new valve seals put in the head. Lots of parts included with it. Not a bad project. http://desmoines.craigslist.org/cto/4436273477.html Two Comanches with lots of parts between them, $1000 for both. Definitely a lot to be had for the money, maybe even a running and driving vehicle between the two, not sure about titles for either one though.
  9. Searching fails me it seems, although I didn't look in that forum because it was a craigslist ad. Oh well, funny is funny.
  10. So... how about that buried treasure?
  11. Found this little gem posted on Jalopnik, On top of it being funny, it's actually in good shape from the looks of it. http://enid.craigslist.org/cto/4119280944.html%3C/div%3E
  12. I actually meant the rear bumper. Typing too fast owns me.
  13. A stunning Comanche to be sure, but I have to ask... where did you get that bumper? It just looks so perfect and flush, like it belongs there. I can't stop looking at that part of this truck, lol.
  14. Any progress?
  15. It was definitely a fun and unique experience! The adrenaline from the excitement was pumping a bit, as well as being the only person besides Rob to drive it. I spent the better part of two hours driving, talking, and learning all about the truck I saw when I was a kid and though was cool for whatever reason. And diesels; I learned about those too. Thanks again to Rob for letting me drive his pride and joy, explaining a ton of things I didn't know, and showing me his collection of Comanche stuff. This was a great way to be welcomed into the community. Looking forward to the day when I can finally scrape together enough money for my own.
  16. Whoa, that's awesome! I need to find something like that for the car I drive.
  17. When you coming over? Rob Does this Saturday work for you? I have the whole day to do what I want, since I have them off from work. When you coming over? Rob Hey MO isnt too far... I actually have family down in St. Louis, so MO isn't that far of a stretch really. Kansas City might be pushing it though. I appreciate the offer. Looking forward to seeing what you dig up from that river too! I doubt I'll ever find myself out there, but if I do, I'll keep you in mind. Thanks for the offer.
  18. You can either click the image button, which looks like a tiny photo on the second bar in the comment menu, then link the photos from an image hosting site. Or, you can give us the link to an album of the photos on said image hosting site with the link butter than looks like a chain link, also in the second bar of the comment menu. Photobucket is a good choice.
  19. Torquey enough to, say, pull stranded people out of the snow in the winter possibly? I've been wondering how well it performs compared to its larger option. I drove to Ouray, CO with my Comanche weighing in at 6500lbs (canopy, tools, spare parts, 3 spare tires, food, water and 3 adults). That was through the mountains at minimum speed of 55 mph too. In low range the TBI 2.5L had even more power to spare. The turd point hate? Not so much! Er, I probably should have said 4.0 instead of larger cousin. But this is still good information that I was lacking, so thank you.

  21. Not gonna lie, I was hoping you would be one of the responses on here, since you live close. I had not, however, considered the diesel, which would be a fun and unique experience. I mean, how many people can say they've driven an original diesel Comanche? And hey, it's a four cylinder, that counts, right? ;) No worries, I think it looks pretty sweet too. That, and I'm used to thread jacks on here anyways; makes a thread more friendly and lively.
  22. Greetings fellow Comanche lovers. It occurred to me recently in my search for a Comanche of my own that I've never actually DRIVEN one, and it would probably help in my decision making of what to look for in one if I did. The most experience I have in a Jeep is a 94 ZJ 4.0 with the Select-Trac, so at least I have that much. But I've never driven a manual one, and I'd like to see what it would be like if anyone is willing to let me test drive theirs. I have over four years of experience driving manual as a daily driver, so you don't need to worry about a newbie ruining your clutch and grinding gears. I live in the Crystal Lake area of Illinois for reference on where I am located, and am willing to do some traveling if need be. As for what kind of Comanche I'm looking for: manual obviously, 4.0 or 2.5, perhaps the 2.5 more so, since I have experience already with the 4.0. Looking to try the two and four wheel drive versions, since I think I was spoiled with having Select-Trac during winter 2009/2010. I will also note that I have no experience off-roading. Thank you in advance for those willing to let me have go.
  23. Remember that lovely looking yellow and green Comanche with the giant wing we all love to see and talk about in the craigslist ads? http://jalopnik.com/for-6-999-this-is-why-we-can-t-have-nice-things-1177320209 Yeah... Somehow the poll is only at 90% Crack Pipe instead of all against.
  24. When buying vehicles from New Orleans, is the market still full of flood damaged ones? Still a nice looking Comanche regardless.
  25. Atlanta Craigslist - truck is in Birmingham, AL.... don't head the wrong way! . :MJ 1: . I noticed that after posting, but thanks for the tip! Edit: And the post has been deleted anyways. Oh well, that one is New Orleans looked pretty good.
