Got my new cable a while back, wanting to install it and I was wondering if all mjs/xjs have this or is it just for cruise control? Could it be the reason my speedo doesnt work? I ask because the cable I got said without cruise control byt does not have the prooer end on it to go into the back of the speedo.

Tightened up my steering column, plugged all my connectors back in at the bottom of the column and now my wipers don't work. Blinkers, turn signals, and brights still work, but Not my wipers. AFAIK none of the column internals control the wipers, the switch is inside the "blinker arm", and I'm 99% sure all my connectors are plugged in at the bottom of the column, the only ones not plugged in are female 2prong connectors that I can't find any male ends for. Any ideas on what to check? Hard to drive in the snow and freezing rain with no wipers

Hmm. Well I'm just going to remove the extra terminal on the side so that it will fit properly on the switch and wire it in like the old one. Hopefully my lack of interior lights was due to internal corrosion on the old switch.

Well its finally above freezing here so I pulled the guage cluster off, pulled out the headlamp switch, and the old plug is 7 terminals, where the new one is 9, and on the old switch there is one terminal with no wire. I know 86 mjs are funky to begin with, and harnesses usually have extra wires and connectors, but could this also be why I have no interior lights whatsoever? Old plug New plug I know I can mae it work, thats not hard. I'm mainly just curious about the unused terminal and the difference in plugs.

Oh believe me, I do. Gonna see if a better carb will help with my lack of power....that and maybe a regear.

There is with 2.hate. It just stalls :thwak:

If you have a fairly mint one id be interested in buying one for my mj. all the ones I see in the pnp yards are trashed and bent to hell.

Seats! Who Has What In Their Mj
mpace6a replied to farmerjohnson's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have some stock limited xj leather buckets that I plan on mating to 97+ 2 door tilt mechanisms. Xj leathers are the best IMO -
Got my plug today. Do I need to cut the old one off and solder the new one under the dash, or is there another plug that I can undo to pull the switch harness out? Or at least give me some more room to work with?
-
Awesome thanks hornbrod!

Switch has a burnt contact, melted the plug to. Do I have any options on the plug besides cutting one from a jy xj and wiring it in?
-
Thanks for the info guys! Was planning on doing this yesterday, but it started snowing like crazy when I got off work! Supposed to get warm again, hopefully I can fix it and get my mj back on the road!

No, no brights either. I originally thought it was the bright switch shorting out due to my column being extremely loose, tightened it up but no dice. I'll invest In a new switch...maybe cruisers headlight harness too, while I'm at it

So for a while, my headlights would randomy shut themselves off. Simple turn the switch off and on and they would come back on. Then they shut off, wouldnt come back on with the switch, but did come on by themselves. Now, they won't come on at all. Still have markers, and turn signals, but no headlights. Any ideas on why? I don't believe the switch is bad since the markers still come on. No dash lights, theyve never worked, despite swapping switches and doing cruisers cluster ground upgrade. Any ideas?

My 86 most definitely has a CAD. Factory 2.hate/5spd 4x4

Got down to -12 the other night here, was -5 when i went out to start the truck for work. Took a full 20 mins of pumping the pedal, cranking and cussing. Rinse and repeat. But then again I have a 2.hate with no choke on the crappy carb...

Or just order online and type "comancheclub" in the coupon box. 10% off!

With the comancheclub discount new mt springs are $410. Without they're $456
-
Good question, only thing is the MT General Springs are not factory stock springs. They're aftermarket or designed to have the same number of leaf's as the factory MT springs but could have a different arch. The ones that General Spings sells also have the military wrap. Yeah I just ordered hell creek suspensions mt springs...hopefully no lift
-
Yeah I saw the JCR brackets, I'm still considering buying one of their DIY bumpers. But I see no reason to pay for their frame tie ins when i work in a steel shop and have access to all the necessary machinery to make my own
-
Except why would stock springs lift a truck? They came with MT springs, the only "lift" i should get from them is back to stock height. There was a discussion about this the other day. Stock MT comanches only sat maybe an inch higher than a regular 4x4 mj IIRC.

This sounds like an excellent setup for a good budget lift. I plan on doing the exact same thing in the near future. FWIW I discovered some heavy duty PVC flanges at my local plumbing store when i was looking for a cheap way to help my sagging springs. I bought and installed a pair of them (1 per spring) and to be honest how well they work/fit is down right freaky. Its like they were actaully made for coil spring spacers on an MJ. To keep it from looking completely cheesy i spray painted them black. I think i paid somewhere between 10-15 bucks for two of them. They give somewhere around 2in of lift. Hmm I think I'll look into that. Definitely want the zj coils though, better spring rate than stock coils, and I need to hold up a new bumper/winch, and later a bigger engine.
