  1. Rymanrph Will try to shoot some close-ups tonight and post em... I did not feel they (gaps) were any big deal as I will be pulling them (flares) back off to do the body work.....
  2. ROCKIES (damn phone).......
  3. Ditto everything said by RockMJ with regard to the rear flares. I got them on but with quite a bit of fiddling. I think the best advice for the rears is to disregard the template and "sneak up on it" ...and definatly take your time. Perhaps Buswacker with a bit of prodding could look into a slight modification to the rears from the obviously designed for a cherokee product, and/or better instructions included for the rear of the MJ. I too have gaps I am not happy with but will run this way for now. The only way to get the flares to drop down far enough to correctly follow the contour of the body would be to add a bit more sheet metal...don't see any getting around it. I may go that route if I decide to swap over the bed from the trailer to the truck. I will be piddling with bodywork anyway this summer in prep for paint. I would buy another rear set of flares and do the job right, adding to the sheet metal on the bed. If I do go that route I will post a step by step for those interested. But do understand that I am thrilled with the product and the look on the truck. I was just the "wow I've never seen a jeep truck like yours" look I was after....(wait till Fessler does my rear Bumper). Also working on roof bows (bent from 1.0" square X .083" wall tube) to mount a cavas soft top. Post pics when I get a bit further down the road on that one. Weather glorious in the rokies this morning!!! Bob in Denver
  4. Everytime I have a really crappy day at the office and go out and see her in the parking lot looking forward to the drive home... I am instantly in a better mood. My wife mentioned the other day that with all I have spent (time and $$) on the two trucks and trailer, parts parts parts and ...also more parts. I could have bought a new truck. I said what would be the point in that... it would be a new truck and not a manche.... For the price of the "new " truck I have my newly converted to 4X4 88 short bed, a factory 4X4 87 project, a killer trailer (enough parts to build another MJ) AND... have put three out of four kids into jeeps all the while watching the addiction go to the next generation...can you say "priceless"??? yup I bond with bucky every single day My name is buffalo and I am an addict.........
  5. Not shootin anything at this point (been in recovery for 20 +years). Buffalo (just say no) Bob
  6. Rymanrph...yours is the best MJ I have ever seen. Your coment about my truck considering what you drive, is truly inspiring....thanks. I hope my upcoming body work and paint comes out half as nice. Jpdriver1...The bed side rails are from 15 gauge strip steel. Fessler used a long brake to get the same angle of the bed rail of the truck and fabbed the corner wrap around on the back. They bolt on through the bed rail with stainlees steel tamper proof torx flat heads. They came off so nice he said he was going to make a set for his truck (sadly not a comanche) I told him that it might be something to add to his product line. The tire carrier came off particuarly well also. If you like his work wait till you see the rear bumper.... He also did the front and rear bumpers on my son's cherokee, you can see a bit of it in the pics of my truck. One thing I particuarly like about the rear bumper on the cherokee is that the 3/16 plate stock that makes up the rear wrap around on the ends of the bumper match the body side and axtend all the way up to the back of the fender flare. It is hard to see on Nathan's cherokee as it is all black (paint on the truck and the bed liner on the bumper). It really supports an protects those rear corners. His sticks out further that the one we are working on for the comanche as he wanted a step to get snowboards off the top. Check out fesslers web site at www.fessybuilt.com Great guy to work with that seems to get as jazzed about the projects as I am....he is typically pretty booked....but worth the wait.
  7. one more
  8. Man I'm diggin the way this is all comming together. still somewhat undecided on what color to paint............
  9. bumpers sliders bed rails and spare tire carrier (tied to factory roll bar) All built by Jarod Fessler (Fessybuilt of Broomfield Colorado) Rear bumper next week!!!!
  10. [I'mg][/img] picked up the truck with her new front bumper, sliders bed rails and spare tire carrier.
  11. I dig the first seat option though I am not a two-tone type. Give me the same thing in dark greay or black not both. I went with the cable shift (TJ) kit by advanced adapters for the transfer case NP231 also from AA came with a fixed yoke and brand new waited a while to get it. minor issues with the install, agreed there is minimal room and more adapting ...no pun intended was required. In the case of the advanced adapters kit it is already straight front to back and shifts smooth and easy. only b*@$£...I have been waiting(still) for the correct shift arm for a cherokee (without the TJ dog-leg) in order to re mount my console without having to hack it up. The solution I am going to take involves a sawzall and welder :brows: how else am I to mount that spiffy momo knob to match the one on the AX15? My 4X4 conversion is complete and I am thrilled though it seems I need to learn to drive it all over again not used to a new clutch and the difference from the peugot tranny to the AX15. I will post up some pics after I get the truck back from fessy-built. she is up at Jarod's shop having the bumpers built. Another perfect day in the rockies. Bob in Denver
  12. Let me know how your install goes and I will do the same. I bought the banks header for my 87' project with a stroker...but will probably try to bolt it up to the 88' as my complete exhaust is all rotted out as well and for the time being it is my daily driver. You are in college station? My dad taught in the english department at A&M for 29 years before he passed away 10 years ago. never lived there myself...but visited on occasion. great campus. Bob
  13. Flange WELDED to the primarys.......damn phone. If the issue is only EGR and/or tail pipe fitting I may go the banks route. Tail pipe issues are Nill as far as I'm concerned... I will be replacing everything else on back anyway. Sorry to hijack the thread but it seemed an apprpriate place to ask for similar help..... Bob in (guess we are getting snow for the weekend) Denver.
  14. why is the pacesetter the only header to consider on your renix 4 liter? Is it a fit problem with the intake? a port match problem on the head? or EGR plumbing related issue? I am almost to the exhaust stage of my project also myself. I am leaning twords the Banks revolver header based on how thick the flange is and how it is helded on to the primarys. The banks is a direct fit for 91 -92 comanches...so obviously an HO engine. I am still running my original 4 liter in my 88'
  15. If you are successful and score.......and they have more than one will you please let me know??!! I would very much prefer a new hood if I can find one in old stock somewhere. Thanks. Bob
  16. This is apparanyly now a discontinued item with reflexxion. I have tried the distributors they refered me to here in Denver (all I got was laughter). Does anyone have a line on one? I would far rather find an old steel one by this company than a newer (probably ill fitting and troublesome) fiberglass one. any other manufacturers I should consider? Probably pissin in the wind with this item....but thought I would ask. Bob

    Dead?

if it aint a jackalope then its definatly a ground hog.
  18. thanks for the help was way easier than I thought.... I was already running a cable from a renix 4X4 XJ .....it was all I could find at the junkyard at the time. So after I got rid of the electrical connect and changed over to the manual set up... yada yada it was a snap. (will see if I need a different gear once I am on the road again and can check it with a GPS) appreciate the help. Bob
  19. Finally installing the new AX15 an NP 231 behind the original renix 4 liter. Presently have the renix cable speedo to the peugot tranny. (truck was originally RWD). Pardon the ignorant question....how do I connect the speedo. do I have to change the wiring harness to get around the manual cable speedo? I Will upgrade later to a stroker and upgrade harness to 90'+ HO set up....but trying to do this in stages. do I resort to using a GPS for a speedo in the interim? What are my options for the time being? Oh wizards of jeepdom enlighten me. Bob (Confused) in Denver
  20. 1st chouce AEV pintlers 8.5 X17 (NOW COME IN BLACK!!!) have the argent ones on my truck. but seriously the AR23's will look great..... go for it. Bob
  21. I collect old Walt Kelly "POGO" books. I have all the original paperbacks most in first addition. I also have a first addition That is signed by Walt with a hand drawn pic of pogo...... My Dad was a fan in th early 60's and I learned to read swiping his copies....read them till they fell apart. I have been a fan of his special brand of humor ever since. I'm getting a grin just thinking about it. Bob in Denver
  22. I will be under the truck this weekend and will compare my measurements with yours now I am curious... I'll also try to put my hands on my part numbers for all the front end components. There are pics of my truck in both introducing my comanche and before and after threads on here somewhere, all were taken within the last month or so. I aslo started with a 2 wheel drive truck. our build intentions are so similar...I may need to pick another color...lol Later...
  23. Curious issue you are having with the front sitting overly high. I just put the hell creek 4.5" full leaf packs under my short bed 88' and rubicon 4.5" coils up front...I sat so much higher in the rear, that I added another 1.50" spacer to the coils. The rear leafs will probably settle a bit, but for now with nothing in the bed I am still about 1.50" lower in the front than the back. And yes the whole truck sits higher than I thought it would...so I went with AEV pintler argent (basically gunmetal) wheels. The wheels are 8.5 X 17 with 4.25" backspace, originally I was going to stick with 32" tires... but with the added lift and the AEV wheels I bumped up to 285/70/R17 tires...over all just a hair under 33's. I too went D30 front & D44 rear with 4.56 gears and the same bilstiens...Love it. Man I dig your wheels..what size and backspacing are they? Your truck looks great...seems like we are following a very similar build plan. Bob
  24. Not meaning to hijack the thread.... But I am glad to learn the build history on this trailer... I bought it from the Naxja Waggy guy (thanks Robert)a few months back, and had it hauled from Anahiem to Denver. Working on raising it up tp fit behind bucky, pictures to follow soon. The addiction is addicting. Buffalob
  25. What is the part number of the proportioning valve please. I can't find it on thier website...... Thank you.....this could help me solve a similar problem. Bob in Denver
