Got mine yesterday...It is the real deal NOS no BS about it. You will not be dissapointed. Have not been able to test fit, but honestly I don't have to bother. I see this bastard in my sleep and have a tatoo of it on my butt. Too late...

tell ya what man...I am really lookin forward to seeing this thing in a bona fide booth rather than a filthy packed garage and driveway. Where it is dirt grit and dust free in an incluttered well lit heated place..... I want so bad to feel that at least some of this process is being done in a professional environment. I have to stay optomistic and up beat. ( haven't taken a drink in 23 years....but the week ain't over yet.) Hmm comanche club on the velocity channel (maybe speed vision) comes on between "chasing classic cars" and "overhaulin"....you might be onto something there Earl

Rockdrummer93's '99 MJ Trail Rig Build
buffalob replied to Rockdrummer93's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Dude your truck looks great... So much so in fact that I am very tempted to consider finding a late model front clip and having it painted when I am in the booth later this week. Just in case I decide to change it. The black you have on the lower body (looks great) and is exactly what I am planning with the U-Pol Raptor sray in bed liner expected on my porch this afternoon. -
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&vxp=mtr&item=230956728341 Why don't you hold up untill tomorrow till I get this delivered inspected and test fit. let me play guinea pig to see if it is actually what they say it is..... I would not want to steer a brother wrong...

Thankfully the weather was great for the weekend and is expected to be as high as the low 70s through the week. Here are a couple of shots of another project that he picked up to add to the insane collection of cars trucks engines etc at this guy's house...66' Caddy what a beast this thing is!

The bed is now ready for final light hand work before sealer at this point. We have the booth for a full week after today, and as I said the door hinge will deliver this afternoon. the door will need temorary re-mounting to re allign the drivers side front fender I think both got tweeked and buggered up a bit when he ground the hinge in half to get the door off. For all the delays ballyhoo and bull$#!& I gotta say that on the whole the man knows his stuff. The body work is vastly superior to anything I would have been capable of even given the time span spent. I have every reason to believe that he is as good or better with a paint gun. I will be helping evenings this week for the grunt work and to ensure that Bucky stays front burner.

Anything that can and should be removed has been taken off. The only things left in the cab at this point is the seats and dash. All the window trim mirrors and door handles are off and the door jambs have been stripped and ready for sealer. The door hinge that needed replaced I found on ebay yesterday morning and the seller agreed to sent via overnight UPS to my office, will be here today ( as will enough U-Pol Raptor to do 2 complete beds...should be enough for the bed the bumpers side rails bed side top rails and the roll bar. Also doing the lower body and the flat top bushwackers...after the paint is on). It was worth getting a NOS hinge sent rather than taking the time off work and spending it at the junk yard. I want if time off work is needed to be in the middle of the project (read highly visible). All that being said I may need to swing by the p&p for a better cowl vent...that is a quick stop however and not trying to cut out a door hinge. The drivers door hinge is the last big item the cab needs at this point.

Considering the limited floorspace that the project has been reduced to having the bed off, separate and moveable will no doubt improve the chances of getting the paint layed down this week. After scuffing the bed I pulled all the remaining interior panels to get the old door weatherstripping out. Then removed the passenger door.

Well first thing Sunday morning started with bolting down the truck bed to the trailr frame to facilitate getting it mobile, this really prooved a godsend in getting it easy to manouver around. While Tim finished the skim coat of filler, I scuffed up the bed for application of the bed liner to be sprayed in,

Nope not encarcerated...but bone tired. Sunday kicked my butt, man I'm glad I don't do that stuff for a living. Lots of progress a few annoying setbacks (still held up for drivers top door hinge repair). Some one apparantly thought it was easier to cut the top hinge in half with a grinder than have the patience with the proper torx bit and ratchet/breaker bar accessories to get the door off. Looks like I will be going to the pick and pull for a rear door cherokee hinge after work this afternoon. We have a paint booth for the entire week after today. It is getting so close I can taste it. Got in too late last night to even think about posting photos...will shoot for this evening.

Whoa Earl....I are humbled by yer greatness. She is really looking spectacular.

Off to the painters for the weekend. The gotta do list ibefore we shoot s getting shorter. I truly believe that we will see the sealer coat and basecoat on by Sunday afternoon/evening. Otherwise.......... I will post Sunday night if I need help with bail money. Happy bunny day to all. buffalo b

Raptor Liner Or Monsterliner Exterior Of Truck
buffalob replied to 92tanMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just ordered up enough U-Pol Raptor to do inside the bed, bumpers, side rails, bed side top plates, roll bar/tire carrier, bushwackers and the lower body on the cab and bed (basically like I had it layed out with the cheapo rattle can rustoleum stuff before bucky went to paint.) I considered having the bed liner done by LineX but thier quote for my short bed was $ 450.00. I got enough Raptor product (supposedly) to do 2 complete standard size (whatever that means) truck beds. The total was $ 242.00 delivered. I will keep you posted. -
spent my weekend looking a photos you have taken of your painter working on your truck..... Not sayin that I didn't enjoy it though......
-
You do understand we live in a one story house and there is a foot of snow on the ground to boot right? As such I will only further injure my pride.....
-
the photos are superb your truck looks incredible...what are you trying to do earl, make me jump out of the window? All kiddin aside man, She looks great. I can't wait to get mine back and catch up to you.
-
To re-state what RubberDuck has said...I will gladly cover the shipping on the replacement headliner. I can't see you bearing all the cost on this Steve, not considering the action you are taking here... ( further I will be sending my visors and paying for them to be recovered.) Pardon the fact that I did not send this e-mail yesterday...I was just to stunned by the offer to replace all the headliners supplied enmasse to the group. Now that is a guy that stands behind his product, his work and his word. WOW does not quite get it. I have not tried to install mine (truck still at painters grrrrr). Please let me know when you need me to send over the visors and how much to cover them and all the postage for them and the replacement headliner. Cudos to you sir...you are a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. buffalo b

The regular bushwackers are cut out for the rear (and front) of a 2 door XJ ....and same on the comanche. The flat top flares are not cut out for the rear of either application. The flat tops are cut out on the front for both applications no exception...you will need to cut the fender to get them to fit . bushwacker does not make a direct fit rear flat top flare for a comanche, though they can be made to fit.... there will be a gap at the body line on the back of the rear flare as the opening is bigger on the back of the comanch than a 2 door XJ. IMO the gap is no big deal. If you look at my build thread "the building of Bucky" you can clearly see what I am talking about...especially in the pasenger side photos showing close-ups on the rear bumper wrap around corners. once she is back from paint. I intend to use spray on bed liner material on th lower body line, the bumpers andthe bushwackers. I will be filling that little "gap" and you will not see it..... If you need me to re-post you some pics to show yyou what I mean I can get to it tonight.... let me know. Also there are photos showing the front fender trimming that was done after removing the bushwackers for body prep and paint...again, no big deal, just take your time.

In the photos above on the right side in the garage you will see the purple impala lowrider. On the left a pair of old ford tudor bodies (one with I would guess about a 4"to 6" chop). Here are some pics of the other projects that bucky is sharing space with....
-
I know I had one to begin with.....???? ....Also I have not seen either tail gate over there yet. I will be getting back over there in the next few days, I have sent links as to door hinge repair off the forum to him. Obviously why the door was removed. I have no problem diving in to finish that aspect of the process... I suspect that is where we are going....
-
the bed is real close to being ready to bolt down to the frame rails of the trailer for the sealer coat. then it is rolled aside and the cab brought to that point as well.
-
Well Sunday went well, better than expected anyway. Managed to get the bed pulled off and the underside powerwashed, scrubed, cleaned with lacquer thinner and undercoated. Also powerwashed and scrubbed the frame rails and hit them with self etching primer then undercoated them too.

Friday was a fiasco still too pissed to go into any details. Had to baby sit my granddaughter all day today so I could not get down to the painters place today at all. I did manage to pull the bed off the trailer yesterday afternoon however so we will be able to mount the bed off bucky onto the rails of the trailer for transport and painting. Basically everything I can do to help or facilitate without actually being there has been done (that does not invole a hand gun or an attorney)... The plan is to get an early start tomorrow morning. Thanks for checking up on me...will let you know tomorrow evening where we are....
-
multiples....? Nah..... just one big one.

NEWSFLASH!!!! Got a call from the painter... We are on for Friday. Weather is expected to be 74 degrees Wahoo!!!! I will be taking the day off to and show up over there butt-@$$ early to play go-fer grunt comic relief sidekick provider of lunch mask block tape moral support whatever it takes. Either the truck will get shot (or someone will).... Wonder If I will get any sleep in the meantime? hmmm...don't @#$%ing care! keep you posted friends..........
