  1. Comfort Setting is for highway driving, shifts sooner with out excessive RPM required to change gears. Saves Gas. Power holds the tranny in low gear longer to deliver more torque for pulling in low gear. Works the same as when you "Punch It" to shift the tranny in low, or passing gear, to deliver more tourqe at a higher engine RPM. :driving: Red Dog
  2. Update! Forgot to mention that the bad socket that is causing your problem is the FRONT socket. Changed both of mine and everything worked fine. As mentioned above, if your dash indicator stays dim lit on one side, thats the bad one. Red Dog
  3. :smart: I agree. Bad sockets will cause the problems you are describing. If you have the orginal white plastic ones, time and moisture have taken their toll, change the sockets with OEM or aftre market that have the black shrink seals and they should work fine. Red Dog
  4. I have been fighting leaks on my MJ forever, bought it new in 87. Resealed the side vents when I came across the same problem you are describing. Turned out to be rust holes around the rear glass. Even though the glass appears to held in by a full sealing old style gasket, its not. Glass is glued in, with a rubber trim piece pushed in around it. Pull the interior thats behind the seat so you can see exactly where the waters coming from when you hit it with the hose. Pop the glass out and start doing repairs. Good Luck. Red Dog
  5. Thanks for the heads up on all the possibilities. I know now my opportunity may lie lie underneath any MJ that rolled off the assembley line. :D
  6. Searching for a factory D44 for my 87 MJ, and was wondering what years, packages, they were originally offered in. (88 or 89, Pioneer, Eliminator? etc) Thanks for any info
  7. If you decide to buid it, keep in mind that most factory sending units are next to impossible to find parts for (fuel pumps that fit orginal factory tank brackets EXACTLY, fuel gauge sending units, etc) and this stuff usually needs replacement at the time a tank change is required anyway. Complete tank with a current fuel pump design, gauge float, etc. would offer something of value. Direct mechanical bolt up, fuel line, and electrical hook-up would be the way to go. Still, for a truck that was produced for a short time, there are some diffrences from year to year, Rennix or Chrysler. Red Dog
  8. Don't buy the "Bolt on to the end of a stripped back wire" type. They are designed to get you off of the side of the road only. You want to buy a complete battery cable with the the battery terminal, and starter eye, factory sodered on. Best source for quality cables in my opinion is NAPA. Pull off BOTH cables and measure them. Buy replacments a few inches longer than what came off. ;) There is a slight diffrence in the diameters of the top posts of the battery. Match old wire lengths to the new + or -replacments to ensure a proper battery terminal connection. Ask for special corrosion inhibiting felt washers to place under your new battery cables to prevent future corrision. :smart: Red Dog

Looks like we are all in for a long wait, since Damier killed the new Gladiator.
  10. OK Guys, new to the club, but am the orginal owner of my 87 MJ. Bought it new when the 4.0 was introduced, and was driving it daily until a year or so go. Guy ran a stop sign and put "Eugene" out of commision. Now my project to resurrect her. Here are the urls if you want to see what a 47 year old Comanche owner looks like. Don't laugh too hard, you will be old one day also! :D
  11. Thanks for the tip my Acadian Brother. Greetings from South Louisiana! "Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler" Red Dog Southwest of New Orleans
  12. Soaking in H2O in sink. Not making much progress. Dog would not even eat livers I dug out of cavity. Time for another
  13. The sensor 87manache is refering to is located on the top of the head, driver side, as close to the firewall as the head goes. Its pretty small, 1/8" NPT (if I remember correctly) and is a blind hole drilled and tapped in the head. If you are looking to hook up a mechanical temp gauge (copper capiliary tube) this is not the place to do so.
  14. This is a drill. Stay calm and follow emergency procedures.
