I think I found my next Comanche - PROGRESS PICS UP
XJs4Ever replied to XJs4Ever's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Hey Don - howz it goin?! Nice to start seeing you guys [in print] again. Me & Pete still toss each other a note now n then but I've lost contact with most everyone else. And the old MJ list is a corpse now. I know nobody and vise versa. Why don't I start by detailing the most serious problem with the 89 and get your opinions on it.. When its cold it idles rough and runs really rich but it smooths out a little after it warms up. I haven't popped the dist cap yet but it and the wires look new. I don't see any bad vacuum lines. I'm thinking maybe the oxygen sensors bad. I cleaned the injectors yesterday but still the ECM may be sending it the wrong info making it run bad. :???: -

Well I totally morphed my 86 into a whole different creature than what it began as but the plans for this one are less drastic. I want it to be a capable wheeler but keep its fine street sass. Buckets from a 2-door XJ Full center console Sliding rear window 3" lift Rear locker 31x10.50-15's either A/T's or mudders Newer steering wheel. Hate the one thats in there now. Amp & subs Home built rear bumper Hi flo exhaust Throttle body spacer & cold air intake Camper shell and a bunch of other jazz I just aint thought of yet but it'll come -
When I joined, above my avatar I put "Can spell Comanche" cuz I thought it was funny that so many can't, and someone else even stole the quote which is fine. But now it says 'comanche fan' which I didn't change nor can I figger out how to change that. Hep me! Hep me!

Hey Rich - that worked!! The 89 MJ is in my garage! Thanks bro. You and Pete said DO IT and dang if it aint done! Woo hoo!! I am back in an MJ again and this suckers got the 4.0L and lotsa other goodies too. YOW!! I'm stoked man it has begun again! Its too late and dark to take pix but I will snap some in the next day or two and get them posted. PS what the hell happened to the MJ list?? Its freakin DEAD!!! I actually prefer it to the forum but hey thats just me but geez its a ghost town. Sad, man. That was soo special for soo long. Probly too many regulars [like me] who vanished. -
OK it looks like its on for 1:30 today. I'm meeting the group at the Crow Hill gas station around 2pm to break in the new mudders and trash my clean Jeep. I'll take pix and post them eventually.

Dang Pete I am serious that sucker burned rubber going from 2nd to 3rd and thats with a passenger. AND at 6000' above sea level! It has a chrome diamond plate trukbox but I told the dude I wouldnt want that cuz a shell was goin on it if I bot the truck. I will snap a couple pix for ya tomorrow a.m. I was able to SOA the Varmint 7" without any driveline mods but I dunno if I can do that with a short bed. If not then it will have to do the AAL and shackles in back. I have a 3" lift out in the garage for the front. This is all foresight if the sale actually happens or not. The truck is a little ruff inside like the mini console is messed up and the ashtray is jacked shut but headliner and carpet and door panels are perfect. I bet I can get 800 for my Camaro from a guy I work with who's been buggin me forever to sell it to him. -
Hey guys guess what?? Ever since I sold my ripped up 86 with the blown mill last Dec I have been on the prowl for another one and I may have found it, IF the dude will accept a FAIR price cuz hes askin too much. Its a white 89 shorty 4x4, 4.0L, bench, 5spd, A/C [don't work], gauges, doesn't leak anything, no rust no damage. 170k miles, new radiator etc but the thing BB's for $1,600 and he wants $2,300 obo. I drove it and it runs strong, no smoke, shifts great, quiet. His wifes having kid number two so bye bye truck. If he'll take $1,700 I'll buy it but he will probly hold out for two grand, maybe. If it all works out I will sell my Camaro and keep the XJ. I'll keep you informed as to what happens.
-
Well they WERE on a longbed. I cut one down to see how theyd look on the XJ but one is still full length. Still, the bearing hub dealio worries me. Checker wants $145 ea. - can't do just now
-
N You need rock sliders?? I have a set I'll cut you a deal on. Came off my 86 MJ. And who has hubs for 40 a pc?? I just stuck my new 31x10.50-15 mudders on and I amd dyin to test em out so c'mon people lets git this show on the road pronto k?? Dang it will be 13' of snow b4 we get the trip done!! :brows:
-
Never ran Old Chinamans Gulch but its on my to-do list ;) Coneys a winner too [aka Middle St Vrain] I'd feel better if I replaced both front bearing hub assemblies first tho. I can hear them clickin but theys about $100 + each last I heared. I still like the idea of making it a camping trip. Nuthin like burning a steak on a mountain and howlin at the moon [in between curling those 12 oz weights]

Cool. I ditched the 33's and am going back to 31's for several reasons but I'm in on this no matter what. Maybe we can make it an overnighter? Do some midnight wheelin eh?
-
My mill grenaded in my '86 last Dec so if ya don't mind a sexy white XJ taggin along, I'm in. My only days off are Sun & Wed but I'd make an exception if it meant wheelin with a decent crew for a change. I ran Slaughterhouse last Sun and as me and my partner were digging cans/bottles/shotgun casings out of a fire pit, some a-hole in an Exploder just drove past shakin his head at us. Were we cleaning up the crap left behind by some rednecks?? Noooo I'm sure to that dude we were bums collecting aluminum for our next jug of hooch. Lemme know when bro. Scott - you in? I jacked the XJ up to 5" and stuck some 33x9.50's on it. They did great at SH but had some nice rubbage on the flares! Rick 303-396-3018 Image Not Found

yep and they got a copy of the DVD. I will have another one but it will be newer and have the 4.0. Maybe a shortbox next time and auto trans, but only after I sell the boat. later doods
-
This must be why you never replied to my PM. I want to get with you on a payment plan for that DVD you sent out to me. * Pete, let me know if I flip the bill for a hat for XJs4Ever, my money seem no good to him ;) - Rich Dang - Sorry Bro, I havent seen a PM yet. Got three in there but none of yers. I'm hoping to aquire enuf from the vids to cover a hat and two beer huggies but it aint happened yet. I'll still pay for them tho. PS all money good to me, mon!
-
Cool. I hope you liked the vid. Joe sent me some $$ also! I may actually break even at this rate. I Sold the dang truck yesterday for $400. Hated to but I didnt have room for 4 Jeeps, 1 Camaro and a boat. Not in a townhome. I posted it online and two hrs later I had cash in hand. It went FAST for having a blown engine.
-
WHOA! I hit REPLY and it worked! usually get the index. anyway, PM'd ya
-
gee a 20 dollar DVD player not working? can'y imagine why! :D the new addy is 10765 Longs Way, evry ting else stay same, mon
-
Those who wanted them thar DVD's [you know who you are], they should be in your mailboxes by Saturday. Or a day or two after but they've been mailed - FYI. Cost was about $5 each for the disk, padded envelope, postage [hint]. Hope you enjoy the show! I still have to burn a couple more for some dudes on the MJ list that will take awhile longer but those will be mailed soon. I'm getting some crap from my stupid puter and it keeps failing the burn but I'll figger it out sooner or later. Varmint update - I pick up a new trackbar bracket on Saturday, will have all that all bolted up and strengthened, with the drop down kit installed. After that, I will be working on the 'lectric fan, new intake mods, and some vacuum fixes that are needed. I should be driving it by the middle of next week. YEA!
-
Yup. I refuse to sell it in the condition its in now. Not my style. I have a boat [for sale], a ZJ, XJ, MJ and an '83 Camaro I bought new and will not sell - so something must go eventually and it may as well be the truck unless I sell the XJ instead. Its in way better shape and would bring in more $$ but I'd have to plant a bigger mill in the MJ cuz anyone who knows me know I despise the four banger. Not for any other reason cept a two-digit HP number - probably below 90. But its a good runnin mill and easy to work on. It has some structural problems and to keep wheelin it will rip it to peices so lowering it and keeping it as a workhorse is the only thing I can do
-
Image Not Found Its a crappy pic and I will get a bedda one asap but some things gotta be fixed first. Driving it home the steering was sloppy as hell, like the track bar was disco'd. It wasn't but the bracket that it bolts to is broken in half! I will get a new one or weld the old one back together and reinforce it. Scott didn't put more than a few hundred miles on it but damn man it had tranny fluid all over the bed, the inside was pretty dirty and the seat covers faded from sitting outside in the sun. It stinks inside and the console needs screwed down, and the steering wheel still has the same slop in it [u-joints on the column need tightened]. Other than that it is in the same shape as before, including the leaky steering gearbox. The front bumper took a hit somewhere down the line and the lower valance is pulled out like he backed off a stump or something so I will just cut that off. Then the re-beautification process starts - grill gaurd and rock sliders go back on, new seat covers, steam clean the upholstery, HANG A BIG G-D A$$ AIR FRESHENER IN IT!! But first things first - fix the front end and get it road worthy again. I have a move to deal with coming up in a couple weeks. The dude at my 2nd job wants to buy it and he don't want me to lower it but I'm probly going to anyhow.
-
yup - able to reply to this one. I bet that tall-arse MJ handles like a drunken hippo when its going 70mph, but its built for slow and it probly kicks butt in slo-mo. I will be formatting this PC eventually and reloading everything some weekend soon anyway so maybe that will take care of these issues.
-
Every time I hit 'reply' I am still taken to the index. only my own threads don't kick me off. Been that way all year. ah whatever I wanted to say that red and flamed MJ with the 12" lift is sick man I love it!
