  1. Afterthought, have you checked your fuses? sometimes they look good but when you pull them the come apart (corrosion) I read somewhere that MJ's havea tendency to leak behind the fusebox and can cause corrosion in the fuses. Also if the grounds and fuses are good it could be the multifunction switch. Sorry for throwing so much at you at once, but electricity can be fical.
  2. Just a shot in the dark, but is sounds like a ground problem. You don't by chance have a trailer wiring harness do you? Do the dash lights blink in unison with the flashers or do the blinkers and dash alterante? Are the dash lights fine when the blinkers are off? If they blink in unison I would guess that there is a short somewhere in the blinker system. If the trailer harness is spliced into the rear harness you could have a short there. It's a pain in the a$$ tracing wiring so I would start looking for loose connectors, taped splices, breaks in the wires, etc and fix them. You already replaced the front blinkers so I'd start with the rear blinkers, look for bad wiring.
  3. Can you say "Comanche Monster Truck" Move over Gravedigger here come the Manche!
  4. I'm not quite understanding exactly what you are saying. Here is the complete issue I had with mine. I had an issue with my turn signal thermal relay, what this did was when you turn on the blinker either side i just lit and didn't blink. $3-$4 part and fixed the blinking issue. Next the diver side blinker wouldn't work at all. Thought it was the bulb, checked it and it looked good but replaced it anyway for good measure. No luck with the new bulb, I figure it was a bad ground, which it had a loose connection on the ground. Checked the blinkers after fixing the ground and it worked. At least until I turned the headlights on. The driver side blinker would blink when the headlamps were off but when the lamps were on, which in turn turns the parking light on, the driver side blinker would go very bright and not blink. I thought I'd have to trace the whole harness for a short, but then I read a post about it possible being the socket. Replaced the socket and now it works like it is supposed to. Hope is fixes your issue. BTW, did you get the headlamp fixed? Was it just the lamp or is it another issue. I read there can be problems with the switch, but that that usually casues both lamps to fail. If it's just the one it may be just the lamp. Think I may need to replace my switch soon. The dash lights only come on when you turn it all the way CCW which should be the courtesy light position and the dimmer doesn't work at all. :hmm:
  5. WTG Pete. :D I had a person sick the property association on me once because my dog wouldn't let her dog come into our yard and crap. She complained that we didn't have a lease on the dog. We did however have an invisible fence and our dog never left our yard so her complaints didn't carry water. Didn't keep her from calling the rangers (we live in gated lake community) several times. After a while I think she got the message that there wasn't anything they could do, she started taking a different route so her dog could crap in someone else's yard. I hate people... One of these days I'm gonna get a cabin up on a mountain top in Idaho so they all just leave me alone. Oh, wait... Ruby Ridge... there goes that idea. :wall:
  6. Brandy is just distilled wine and taste much better. Mmmmm... apple brandy
  7. You can use pythagorean theorem to figure it out drive shaft lenght^2-lenght from transmission to diff after tc added^2 = amount of lift need^2 to keep drive shaft. Would be an interesting problem to run the numbers, but yeah, you would need a ladder to get in the cab I'm guessing ;)
  8. I've got 2 set so maybe I'll keep one set white and the other glossy black.
  9. That is what mine was doing exactly. Replacing the socket fixed it.
  10. This is the style on my 87 2wd sport, btw anyone know the best way to clean these up and get the black touched up?
  11. Mine is a bit rusted but was installed by the original owner. Think it may have been a factory tow package. Looks the same sans the rust. side view
  12. So I replaced the front drivers side turn signal/parking lamp socket. It wouldn't blink when the headlamps were on. It was backfeeding current. Picked up a Dorman 85898 for around $10. No pics of the work :( it was getting dark and starting to rain when I did it. You should have seen me with the flashlight between the legs and a raincoat draped over the hood and light lol Anyway all went well and is woking perfectly now. Note to self: get a canopy to work under
  13. Nice find.
  14. Got one that works. It's a Dorman 85898 $10.69 at Advance Auto Parts (I looked for the $5 one but they didn't have it). You hook new white to blue and new red to grey and of course black to black. Now my turn signal blinks when the headlights are both on and off.
  15. So here is the post with the Dorman part http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=26001 , but I'd rather have the less expensive one. Besides the autostores around here don't carry the Dorman part, its a special order.
  16. I'm having the same issue. Found a post on another board that listed the Dorman P/N 84716 as a compatible part, but omg it's like $35! Anyone know what the part number of the Ford one that is only $10? I saw one at Autozone that looked similar but had no cross reference number so wasn't sure.
  17. I was single when I was deployed duing desert storm while in the AF. Couldn't imagine being away from the wife and kids that long. Those guys deserve an extra special thank you for that kind of commitment.
  18. Vinyl, but in really good shape. like I said, the rips on the driver side are all there are. The passenger side looks new.
  19. Thanks Pete, wouldn't have thought about the headrest. Will look into it. Not sure if I want to keep the bench or go with buckets, but seeing as the wife is hand making seatcovers for the bench it will stay for a bit ;) Need to pull up the carpet and check it out, but the whole undercarriage had undercoating on it that will need to be redone soon but is still mostly intact. If I have to clean up the floorboards I may just change out the seat then.
  20. ok, so I figured I'd upload a few pics. Here is the rust over the drivers side flair and the passenger side is a bit worse Interior loog great, few rips on the driver side of seat and radio needs replace crankcase cover gasket look like it needs replace, leaking a bit here's a shot of my CCV fresh air hose "fix" The front end, you can see how badly in need of a paint job she needs and the backend, tailgate is in decent shape Think these are stock wheels, not sure, but I like the look of them think of painting them black and keeping them. The guy I bought it from threw in 4 more just like them and 2 more hubcaps Christmas is coming up soon, so not gonna have alot of extra cash to throw into soon, but gonna get started on the regular maintenance. Need ot Replace th fron parking light\flasher, it won't flash when the headlamps are on. All and all I'm excited about the project.
  21. Thanks Jimmy21669 have looked online for over a week and half a dozen autostores and couldn't find them. This site had it and I found it under 5 min!
  22. Just what I was looking for. Thought I was going to have to search all the wiring to find a bad ground. Will do this first to see if it fixes the problem. Now to find replacement screws for the ones the heads broke off of
  23. My "New" 87 MJ 2x4 I6 4.0l 5 speed manual just over 198,000miles. Has some surface rust that is no big deal, only rusted through spots are just over the rear wheel flairs. Engine, floorboards, frame all in great condition. Sorry for the small picture, if you want to see a bettr one you can go to my picasa sitehttp://picasaweb.google.com/matt.newberry/My87MJ#5525495051752186130 until I learn better how to link photos. The lever on the hood release was rusted, that is how I found this site, was looking for how to get the hood open. I have to say this site is awesome you guys have some really good looking trucks. Hope my project turns out to be as nice. If anyone know where I can get a front CCV assembly would be great, mine is cracked, have it "repaired" with tape. No one seems to carry these anymore. Transmission is a bit noisy hoping that changing the tranny oil will help with that. Want to convert it to 4x4, lift it about 3", remove rust and new paint job. It's my DD and want to do light trails and camping on the weekends. Have always wanted a Comanche and finally have one  Hope to post more pics as I start fixing her up.
  24. Cleaned out the rear smaller CCV tube and jerry rigged the front one that is cracked (can't find a replacement part for the front anywhere)
