  1. I have the same tach issue. My alternator is the source for my tach signal (2.1 TD engine). Alternator works (therefore it has an AC output to the tach with a frequency proportional to the engine speed). I have continuity all the way to the cluster, so my WAG is the tach. I might have a couple of questionable (cold) solder joints, so I will reflow and see what comes of it. Did anyone determine what the TRW item in this picture is. Mine is 50V 0.015K (I believe 10%). 1986 XJ 2.1TD David
  2. What a great thread! Mine is an XJ not an MJ but I love your journey. Can you recommend the shop that did the Bosch VE rebuild for you a few months ago? I may be in need of their services too.
  3. Great thread. Thanks to those who came before. I'm about waist deep into fuse clip replacement currently (electric pun).
  4. Thank you for the great write-up. I have to attack my driver's door soon.
  5. Mine doesn,t count. But given how few there are, I'll speak up anyway. 1986 XJ w/2.1 TD (J8S-814). 4WD w/5 speed manual. I have a tough time finding out where to look for BTDT info on maintenance and repair. Recently found some interesting J8S things here: http://www.renault25.com/data/forum/search.php?keywords=J8S&fid[0]=69 Just tell the browser to translate.
  6. So how about an update? I have a Cherokee with the same engine and am gathering info. I'm assembling what I can. Factory info on inj pump, engine, transmission and chassis so far. I can't seem to locate a recognizable wiring diagram though. My tach is dead and I'd like to remedy that.
  7. That reminds me of Dean Wormer in "Animal House" who said notably.... "someone has put their foot down, and that foot is me."
  8. So mine is a Cherokee (not a Comanche) but I have a 1986 XJ with a 2.1 td (Renault J8S814). I'll probably be hanging around for a bit of advice. I had a Renault with this engine in it back in the early 80's. Also a whole bunch of Benz W115 and W123 diesels (10 if I'm counting correctly over about 25 years). But when I saw I could have 4WD, 5 speed manual turbodiesel I was hooked. The unibody is solid, but I need to flip or replace the starter ring gear. I also have an early diaphragm pump and if anyone knows about the swap to the rotary style.... Well you get the idea. There will be some questions. 48138 (USA) And yes, I saw DEVO at the Punch and Judy Theater when they first hit the airwaves.
