A bunch of Guys from a local club(DSO offroad) are going up there next weekend, I am so pissed I was going but my rigs not ready so. Hopefully I will get to go up next time when its a little warmer.
-
The front is a so called 3.5" spring of unknown brand and a 1.75" spacer, so I am guessing its around 5" or so. The only measurement I recall is its 29" to bottom of my bumper, but I will get that other measurement for you guys. The waggy spring are a little stiffer than the stock springs but thats ok for me as it rides more like a truck now.
-
For those that were woundering what it would look like if you put waggy rear leafs and a 8.8 under the rear of your MJ here it is what it could look like.
-
What length shocks are you running with about 5" of lift?? need new shocks on the front of my truck and need the part number of the shocks your using.

Stock rear MJ leaf measurement?
minydigger replied to BARILLMS's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
They will bolt right up. I am not sure on the lift, as I went soa with stock 4wd springs and it is to much lift for the setup I have in the front. I will let you know tomorrow after I put them in. -
What cables has anyone used when swapped in a 8.8 rear??

Stock rear MJ leaf measurement?
minydigger replied to BARILLMS's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
MJ springs are 26" from eye to center pin and 31" from center pin to rear eye so a total of 57". Full size waggy rears are the same dimensions as the MJ just flatter. Not to sure on XJ and YJ. I am picking up a set of rear waggy's to put on the back of my MJ to level it out some. And they are 2.5" wide -
The motor mount brackets from the donor XJ will bolt right onto the MJ frame rails. at least they did on mine. It was the easiest engine swap I have ever done to date.
-
Are you planing on using the wiring from the XJ?? I did when I went from a 2.8 to the 4.0l and it made the elect. end much easier. If you do make sure you take all the wiring.
-
Yes I still have the harness for the tail lights, and I got to working on it today and figured it out.
-
OK I took the complete wiring out of a XJ and put it into my MJ, everything went smooth up until now, I am having trouble getting the rear tail lights to work correctly. Can someone help me out.
-
My 86 2.8 has 3.55's in it.
-
I recently did this same swap, I used the entire harness from my donor XJ it made the wiring part cake.
-
How come you put in a track bar? was it to wobbly with the springs you used. Also did the springs line up with the stock perches on the waggy axle or did you put new ones on. Looks bitchen though.
-
You have any pics of the font leaf setup? Looks like the rear of the springs are in the control arm pockets???

1986 Comanche ADVISE please
minydigger replied to twojeeps's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've done a 2.8 to 4.0 swapp on my 86. It wasn't hard at all just needed a little reshaping of the firewall to keep anything from rubbing. -
If I remember right its around 64" wms-wms.
-
I am using a 8.8 out of a crown vic, its wider than a explorer and has disc brakes. I will be changing out to 31 splines soon. Not to worried about it right now as it will be my DD
-
Two guys is pushing it. Not that its heavy but awkward as hell to get off with only two people. When I put mine back on I took some 1.5" square tubing and made a big I that went from bed rail to bed rail with an eyelet in the center and used my engine hoist to do the the heavy part. Worked out really well saying I didn't have any help the day I wanted to put the bed back on.
-
Not to jack this thread but. I recently did a soa with a 8.8, what is everyone doing with the rear shocks, placement, shock lenghts pics would be great.
-
What is the length of your lower arms and were the adj. uppers needed or what?
-
Its been awhile but I got a little more done here lately. I haven't had much time to work on it, I been putting a new 5.4L in a 2000 F-250LD so my truck was putt on the back burner. Now Ernesto is making its way threw VA so I won't being working on it for a ouple more days a least. Back to what I have done, The 8.8 is in completly in brake lines are on, perches welded in, driveshaft is in. I got to drive it around the yard for the first time since I've owned it Thats it for now I hope to get it painted and on the road soon.
-
What kinda springs are you using? And did you mount the rear of the springs in the original lower control arm mount?
-
Does anyone know of any springs that I can throw under the back to drop it down an 1" or 2"
-
Its basically going to be my street pounder thats why I didn't really want the rear end to be as high as it is. I wasn't going to do the 8.8 swap yet but I got sittin in the shop yesterday and said screw it lets do it. My ZJ is going to be my wheeler so the truck will most likely roll on 33" a/t's.
