GrandBoost98s Comanche 2
GrandBoost98 replied to GrandBoost98's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
may have celebrated too early...Took out the trash last night and smelled gas as I walked by the MJ. I was expecting to see a puddle underneath but there wasnt. I crawled under to see the sender gasket isnt leaking, which was the original problem. But now it looks like gas is seeping from what I assume is a tiny pin hole under the rear strap. Not enough to drip, it was just kinda wet. So I didnt take it to work in fear of it busting open on the way in lol Ill take a better look after work before ordering a new tank. Not looking forward to draining 22 gallons The original straps I took out and the new straps I put in didnt have any sort of rubber to go between them and the tank. Is that normal? If so, if I have to get a replacement tank, should I consider putting something between them? -

Finally got the time to drop the tank yesterday. What a PITA doing it by yourself! But I was able to see and remove the chunk of rubber that was stopping the sender from seating all the way. And I happened to have a replacement in the parts pile. Got the tank reinstalled with some new straps. Need to find some nuts to get the plastic shield back on but thats not a big deal. I also gave it an oil change. Didnt really need it but the drain plug was leaking so I figured why not. Noticed the rear pinion seal is leaking a little bit too so Ill get one of those on order. Today I'm going to bring some gas home for it so I can drive it to a gas station and see if it still leaks or not. And I got the battery on a charger because it was stone cold dead when I went to start it. I had an old one on my bench I swapped in to get it moving but hoping I can revive the other one -

don't worry, I still have it! But I havent really done anything to it. Last time I filled it up with gas I noticed it was leaking out of the sender gasket. I remember how much I struggled getting that in there last time so I figured this time Ill just drop the tank. I ordered new gas tank straps, drove it around until I was on E then parked it and havent touched it since. Mainly because I had other projects going on and this just got pushed to the back burner. But I finally got my YJ back together so I think I'm going to pull the MJ into the garage soon and get back tinkering on it again -
If you end up going new, I highly suggest Trail Worthy Fab https://trailworthyfab.com/

I tried on a few different occasions to get ahold of Alcan or Deaver and neither replied to me either

Under powered/over geared or Plentiful power?
GrandBoost98 replied to Swampy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That just means you need two. One for trails and the other for the street -
You could just put some TRE inserts in to repair the enlarged holes. Just make sure you get the right size https://www.tmrcustoms.com/products/tie-rod-end-inserts-jeep-taper-tj-lj-xj-zj-mj https://teraflex.com/tj-tie-rod-drag-link-stock-tapered-insert-sleeve-0-75-o-d.html

Under powered/over geared or Plentiful power?

The only thing I would like to change eventually is the Tcase, to get a deeper low gear -
Under powered/over geared or Plentiful power?
GrandBoost98 replied to Swampy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I like under powered and over geared. My YJ has a 2.5L/AX5/NP231 with a front D60 and rear 14bolt running 5.38s and 40" tires. Has been a great setup for me -

Just a bored at work update: I did meet up with @billyjp2 for the bellhousing. Thanks again! Before I ordered a radiator, I wanted to spend a little more time figuring out where it was leaking from. It had been cold for a bit but its been a little warmer so I was able to get some work. Changed a power steering line that blew out on my WJ. Changed the alternator out on the s10 that started going after the WJ was down. And finally checked out the MJ. I havent taken it for a ride but I'm pretty sure the upper rad hose clamp was just loose enough to leak a little under pressure. I went around and tightened all the clamps and left it running for 10-15mins in the driveway. Didnt see any leaks but we'll see how it looks after a drive. I also noticed a weird chirp that ended up being an oily soft/collapsed vac line from valve cover to TB. Replaced that with a longer hose with less angles so hopefully it won't collapse as easily -
Agreed! Qualifying has been pretty crazy this year

2.5 Fixer Upper (new to Comanches)
GrandBoost98 replied to I_s2k's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Those cheap pumps don't like gas or brake fluid too much lol I usually try to squirt some oil in after pumping either of those. But theyre cheap enough to be disposable, I go through a couple a year -

I used one of those cheap transfer pumps from harbor freight to drain the tank. Cruisers site has info on testing and modifying the CPS. Could also be a weak fuel pump or dirty filter -

I stand corrected. I went through old pics to verify and it was indeed a serpentine belt. I was confusing it with my 89 2.5L YJ that has v belts. Gets confusing having so many lol -

I would drain and refill the tank. I had same intermittent problems. Was able to drive up and down my road on a few occasions so I thought I had it good enough to drive to a gas station and it stalled on me about a mile short lol but once I got fresh gas in there, it hasnt given me issues since. Well, not those issues at least -

Very basic, but are you sure its got good gas? It doesnt take long for gas to go bad. Mine sat for a few months before I bought it and had similar issues as youre having. I did a full tune up and most of cruisers tips without much change. Then I drained the tank and refilled with some fuel treatment and its been fine since. -

Should be meeting up with billyjp2 tomorrow for a dakota bellhousing That will let me use the XJ AX15/NP231 with a SYE on it in my basement. I think Ill just need a pilot bushing from advance adapters and an 80s camaro clutch disk and I should have everything else to make it work -
