Ok so I checked and the shifter is out of a 4.0 HO / AW4 / 231 rig. SO... will that still work? Brandon

i have a 1989 Jeep comanche pick up truck with 4.0 inline 6. 2wd 5spd. this thing is ugly, but i drive it daily, and it runs great, believe it or not, it has less than 120000 miles, and cold A/C. I put a new head unit with hd radio, cd, aux input, and usb input in it along with new speakers to replace the stocks, so at least you have tunes. it has the bucket seats. in fact it is dubed an "eliminator" by jeep http://www.hemmings.com/mus/stories/200 ... ture6.html Basically, if your a high school kid that wants a truck to beat on, or a hard working man looking for a work truck "me" this can't be beat. it is quick, for a smaller sized truck, it sure does scoot. all brake lights, turn signals etc work, it even has some fog lights on the front bumper that work, also, has a windshield visor with lights that work. please email for pics

From what I remember yes its a 4.0 231 auto linkage ill check to make sure tho. So do I have every thing I need correct? Brandon
-

Wrong way left to brighten and right to dim Brandon
-
Mines to big to go there and can you even get the sun visor down with it there? Brandon
-
Looks great just sad that you got rid of the ashtray :( Brandon
-
Ok thats all fine with me having the speedo cable out gives me the push to do the gauge cluster swap + new parts are always good. So I already have the handle/gate but Ill still need to get the linkage. So all I need to do is make sure that the AW4 was behind a 4.0, make sure the t case is a 231 and fits the AW4 (same spline count), the 1991 TCU and maybe a new speedo cable. Am I missing any thing or is that all? I want to make sure I have all the facts straight before I go and start to pull out cash. Brandon

:agree: real nice, still think it was worth the $? Brandon
-
Yeah it looks amazing but $400 :ack: plus it might look funny with the rest of the truck faded and the hood looking new. How does it look from the inside of the cab looking out? Oh and what was the meeting for again? I know its a some type of jeep club right? Brandon
-
No :( I didnt want to go :thwak: Ill ride out there next time with cowboy tho. He posted them pics up at http://gearheadoffroadclub.com/forum/ So i thought that I would show them to you. We were just talking about me wanting one of those hoods that you have so i guess thats why he posted the pic's (or because I'm the only other guy he knows that is obsessed with comanches I don't know). How much did you get that hood for? and where at? :brows:
-
Yes it is for my 4x4 swap. i don't think that the speedo hooks up to the t case tho :dunno: Why would I need a longer speedo cable? I'm also sure it came behind the 4.0 I just wanted to know if it would fit if by chance it did come behind a 2.5. When I called the guy today he said that he has a t case that came out of the same truck that the AW4 came out of. So I'm also guessing that its a NP231? Thank you for the help Brandon
-
Ok so both the AW4 tran and the t case came out of the same 91 XJ. Do I still need the TCU? What about the speedo? And does it mater what size motor the XJ had? Brandon
-
Weld it all up 1st. you shouldnt need any sealant if you weld all the way around. But if you do use any kind of sealant don't use silicone it attracts moisture witch causes more rust. Put the metal down, weld it in, get lunch, go back and put down the POR 15, wait at least a day and go put back the carpet  Brandon
-
So that means that any thing "newer" would be after 1990? and some one else said somthing about needing the TCU from the vehicle the tranny comes from is this true? Brandon
-
Buy it and build it Brandon
-
Why do you say that? And nice truck  Brandon
-
Ok cool. Some one else also told me that I need to check the output spline count on the tranny and the input spline count on the t-case because the older XJ's have 21 spline, newer is 23 spline, So ill also make sure they fit before I buy it. Thanks for the help Brandon

Ive alway liked big pics that way you can see every thing :clapping: any ways, Do you have any pics of the frame rail? Yeah you have a good idea on the floor. If you really wana do it right you may want to look into some weld in floor pans. That way you just cut, weld, paint put back carpet and done. Also don't for get to find out if there is any water coming in to prevent any more rust from happening. A good way to do that is to put some baby powder around down there and leave the truck out in the rain. That way you can see where the water (if any) is coming in. Hope that was a help Brandon
