Jeep Turbine 10-Spoke Rims Restoration
87 MJ Chief replied to NEO auto's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Has anyone determined what the original color is, on factory turbine wheels? We are working on G's and want to go back original. Thanks -
Bump (if allowed). G has saved up a little money and we're trying to check off a couple of these parts. Thanks!

"Tanmanche"

Defiantly remove it and ship it to North Carolina so that I can paint it..... Then install it on G's Chief! Seriously though, paint it. Line-x would look goofy and greatly reduce its resale value.

My sister will be on the lookout for that one in Havelock!

I've been told that going from a r12 system to 134 is like trying to make a gasoline engine run off diesel- it's possible but easier/cheaper to just replace the entire system.

Welcome Javelin. Read through here and you'll find a treasure of information. You'll also find the number one group of forum members on the web!

Thank you @WranglerMangler. I will put that on the "must do" list. Mr. @cruiser54, it's a shadow'd FramCrap filter that's getting changed out in the next couple of days with a Mopar filter.
-
I bet you could make a really cool looking Road Runner (Meep! Meep!) and sell it at Mopar shows.

January 2023-A Commuter Comanche
87 MJ Chief replied to 89 MJ's topic in Comanche of the Month (MJOTM)
Congratulations! If you're driving through Twin Falls Id, toot the horn as you pass by my cousin's dairy farm lol. -
@jpnjakegets honorable mention. Something in this picture is leaking but I can't put my oily finger on it.
-
Can it go bad and leak oil? Ding! Ding! Winner of the trivia question! (Shew, bout forgot that!)
-
I'd also like to find a long bed roll bar to get measurements from. My oldest son is wanting to try and replicate them through his college welding class.
-
We'll call it a trivia question so that way I don't look stupid! Lol Can someone identify the grey electrical part that's forward of the oil pressure sensor, at 2:00 from the oil filter? This is on a 2000 4.0. Thanks!!

It was a good Christmas, @jdog. Due to family sickness, we were able to spend Christmas Eve at home for the first time in years. G got supplies to perform @cruiser54's priority #22- vacuum harness replacement, replacement speakers for the doors and corners, and several parts for his Gladiator. I hope your Christmas went well too.

As if this kid needs another project! G has been waiting for us to get a start on his '70 Gladiator. This little, easy project (lol) got moved up the to-do list on his birthday in October. He asked for engine parts in the hopes he could hear it start on his birthday (13th). I got close, but all I could do was get it to turn over by his birthday. He said- "it's like Christine, it has a soul again, so I know it will run someday". For Christmas, G asked for Gladiator and Comanche parts. No video games, no electronics, just truck parts and one other thing- to hear the Gladiator run on its own power. That hit me right in the gut. With a little help from a good friend of ours, it happened!! On the Wednesday before this Christmas, she fired up! That was the day before we were going to get hit with the arctic cold, so my wife and I decided to give him an early Christmas present. I wish you could have seen the look on his face when he turned that key and it came to life. This build will be happening simultaneously with the Chief. Like Jerry Reed said- "we've got a long way to go, and a short time to get there."

December 2022-The Period Correct Custom
87 MJ Chief replied to 89 MJ's topic in Comanche of the Month (MJOTM)
Congratulations! -
That's good to know. G's big brother has hinted at making a Go-Fastee Comanche. 2-wheel drive LS swap, and knowing this, use my other 3.91 Sure Grip. hmmmm...
-
G is going to be getting some Chief presents for Christmas! Shhhh, don't tell him Hint: 715-1365, 66, 67
-
Too close! lol It's got an early B body axle, so i had to fold the wheel well lip and create 1/4" of clearance at the top of the inner fender well for full clearance.

Brake upgrades - start with this
87 MJ Chief replied to ghetdjc320's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Is there a list of "reliable" or "period correct" replacement part brands? I'm fixing to buy some brake parts for G's Chief and noticed several brands of rear brake wheel cylinders. I'm sure I will run into this again as we buy items such as oil filter, window glass guides, gas cap and so on. Our goal is to restore it as close to OEM Status as possible. I'd like to use the best "original replacement" option for his restoration whenever we have a choice. In this case, there's Wearever, Brakewear, Dorman, Napa and others. Wheel cylinders may be an example of- they are all the same manufacture's part, just offered through different retailers, but that would be useful to know as well. I'd love to read through a thread called Factory Original Replacement Parts, but that would be labor intensive for sure. There is a lot of good information for upgrades and custom build parts.
