  1. Broke....Part of the reason I am thinking about a wholesale swap. I was getting a new one from MJPioneer....but god bless! I hope he recovers.
  2. Begs the question first....2.5 or 4.0L?
  3. Yeah, Davey's is insane unless you know someone....
  4. That $1000 appears to be JUST for the bed. WOW!
  5. My fuel tank is shot, and I want it out from under the truck anyway. I have am 87 MJ 2.5L and this is from a 96 TJ 2.5L. I will be building a box in the bed to house the tank. Question is this.... What will it take to hook up the TJ fuel pump and sending unit in the 2.5 MJ?? Thanks
  6. ok, so the midplates are different?
  7. Right...I was going to use the output shaft, shifter case housing and 5th gear shifter from the AX5 (4WD), and put it all in the 2WD AX4..... This way, the 2WD AX4 would then have a 4WD output shaft, shift case, and to get it into fifth, the shift fork.
  8. Images are not working....
  9. You have the correct assumption on gearing. 4.0 Auto = 3.55 4.0 Manual = 3.07 Other than that....yes, the 88 D30 can be used as a roller....LEAVE THE DRIVESHAFT OUT. The actual TUBE is bent?
  10. Can I swap my output shaft and shift box from my AX5 (4WD)(bad tranny) into a perfectly good 2WD AX4, thereby making the AX4 into a 4WD AX5? All that is different is the 5th gear on the output shaft, the 5th gear shift fork, and the case....correct? The output shaft is not the problem with the AX5, the gearbox is blown in first and second. I am going to try this af6ter I get some responses in agreement.
  11. Yeah, gotta network with the guys to find one...and some pullers.
  12. Sometimes won't go into first, and get's stuck in second. I will think it is in neutral, and when I go to stop, it is in second gear, and I can't get it out until I roll the truck and physically get it back in to second then out. I have a 2WD AX4 that was perfect in the garage....I was gonna try and use that for parts to rebuild the AX5.
  13. Thanks! I was confounded....I will give it a try. First time in a tranny....
  14. So the shift rail comes out of that plug?
  15. Ok, let me clarify. The AX-5 is sitting on my workbench. The SHIFTER itself is OFF. I am trying to pull the tranny apart to get at the internals. When trying to pull the gear box from the shifter box, the shift lever housing (that the shifter goes into) goes down into the shift forks preventing me from separating the two.
  16. How do you get the shift lever housing out of the AX-5 to separate the gearbox? Thanks
  17. Measure twice, cut once. Can you drive it in 4 hi as a front wheel drive to the shop that will be shortening the shaft so THEY can measure?
  18. :agree: Look at the difference in length between the cab and the wheels.... That would take more work than it is worth.
  19. When I did my drive shaft, I ground down the welds around the slip yoke end and removed the whole sleeve. I then cut 10.5" off my drive shaft, re-inserted the sleeve and welded. I then used the YJ slip yoke as it is wider and allows for more angles without binding. 60 MPH with no vibes...use a level and cross many angles to ensure the sleeve is inserted straight. I would take pics, but don't have a camera right now... If you can find 2WD XJ, the shaft may be long enough for your current application.
  20. I want the Dakota seats with the fold down center. Stolen from someone else on here....
  21. True...mine is clocked due to the YJ tranny. And I have a AX-5 out of a 2.5L YJ.
  22. They are clocked differently, and may need a little massaging to the floor. I used a tranny and t-case from a YJ and did not have to massage the floor, but there is only 1cm of space. The added clearance is great.
