  1. we are getting hit hard with rain here and my father parks one of his trucks in a yard by the water. So we went to check on it at high tide and sure enough the water was a few inches up the tire, only problem is that it's on an elevated part of the yard. So I went through the water to get him to the truck to move it elsewhere, and the water came about halfway up the bottom of my seat. and there was twigs and stuff stuck at the top of my grill. But anywho I made it out no problem, but no pictures, it was too sticky a situation to do so, but I got pictures of my fathers truck goin through the water on the disposable camera I keep in my glovebox. anywho, truck will be getting lifted and recieve a snorkel for sure now. what a rush.
  2. I agree with you on that, but his engine/trans setup might prefer a taller gear setup (ie taller tires), and the height that you lose would be rather small, and with a truck like this, the extra unsprung weight in wheels and tires would more than likely be a benefit. To be honest though, I would just find an older rwd v8 car and gut it and do some odds and ends; you're gonna end up over your head in this deal, IMHO
  3. you would want a shorter sidewall so if anything you would want to go 16". Explorer wheels may work. Come to think of it mustang wheels might work as well.
  4. so you're all set right?
  5. um, does your truck not have the cable setup that lowers the wheel down? Look for a tube going from the center of the spare to the back bumper. If there is spin that CCW I think with a screwdriver and it should lower the tire to the ground for you.
  6. h/o lets make sure we're on the same page. explorer packs alone give a substantial drop don't they? I would be a pioneer but I don't know how to lift the front, nor do I have the money and time right now.
  7. I have a question, If I was to get explorer springs to go with the rear, and did a SOA setup, any idea what my lift would be like? thanks
  8. I feel silly asking this, but I didnt actually see in that thread if you gained any lift. I saw that you thought you may have lost some, but nothing afterwards. Ironically, it's the top leaf that I broke, any ideas where I could get one?
  9. hah yea this thing is punier than the 7.5" 10 bolt that was in my brothers ls1 camaro, and that thing was a pos. I run 8.8s in my mustangs so I know their a good rear so I'm pretty comforatable putting one in, plus picking up the trac-lok can't hurt either. I also discovered a broken leaf spring when I was taking 35 out today, what's the story on replacing these, are there any junkyard springs that bolt in and give me a little lift or anything? thanks
  10. thats what I was thinking. Figured I might as well say what the damage was: 7 busted teeth, in a group of 3 and 4. The pinion was a little chewed up as well. The worst thing is I have NO idea when this happened. So I'm gonna try to grab a drum 8.8 and see what I can do spending as little as I can.
  11. I just counted the r&p, I have 46 on the ring and 13 on the pinion, so it's a 3.54 gearset. This might sound silly but can I get away with rear 3.55s and front 3.54s in the snow?
  12. 2.8l v6, 3 speed auto.
  13. alright boys, I fragged something in my dana 35 rear in my 86 manche. I can get an exploder rear no problem, but I wanted to look over the writeup before buying anything, does anyone have a link to one of the articles on the swap? also, what are the gear ratios that could be in my truck? thanks
  14. ok, so should I just put her in nuetral and wait a few seconds, then go for it? If I'm at a dead stop, and in nuetral I don't see how it could spin at the t-case point of the driveline.
  15. tryin to engage.
  16. ill check it out tomorow, thanks.
  17. hows it goin guys? I have an 86 mj, with the 2.8l v6 and a 3 speed auto. The T-case worked perfect when I put the truck away last spring, but I went to put it in 4 low the other day (while in nuetral), and she just started grinding. What could cause this......I'm not too familiar with transfer cases though I assume theyre pretty straight foward. thanks.
  18. I think you need to use that weber carb when you do the 3.4 swap, so I'm gonna get one for my 2.8, and use it again with a 3.4, IF that's the case, I'm not positive though.
  19. alright eagle that doesnt sound too hard, Ill do that. thanks.
  20. its got three, and then a light. I um, found it at work, its out of a peterbilt. I'll check a shop manual today and see how they wire it.
  21. so when you say mount it in paralell, you mean that I need to come in hot on the one pole, ground it with the other, and go back to the souce with the third pole?
  22. quick question for you guys: I got an analog voltmeter for my truck, is there anywhere specific I need to pick up the hot end from? The radio is right there so maybe the accesory would be a good one? Let me know. Thanks
  23. I really like it man. Good work.
  24. that's an awesome look for the truck. How involved is the swap?
