Door VIN Prototype - Opinions? Suggestions?
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
IMHO, the VIN and emissions stickers are of no practical use. I bought my orginal Cherokee new in 1988 and I don't think I have ever looked at either the VIN sticker on the door (in fact, I didn't know there is one until I saw this post) or the emissions sticker. The value of your reproductions isn't to have the information so much as to have an accurate replacement for missing, damaged, or defaced OEM stickers. So my view is that they should replicate the originals as exactly as you can do it. If that's the original layout -- don't change anything (other than the data that changes according to model). Great work, BTW. Thanks Eagle. The main reason for doing this is because I've read about numerous people complaining about their missing, damaged, etc etc VIN tag on the door. Guess it's just a small way I can think of to repay the CC community for all the knowledge and information I've learned while on here. -
AMC 360 V8 Badge - Last one for a while probably; might also update this one later, there's still some things I think could be better. Pretty burnt out on making replacement decals.

The prototype that a lot of people have been waiting for; at least, I know I have. Since this is the prototype, I wanted to get club input. All the other decals I've made up to this point didn't really need any input, but since this is probably one of the more important reproductions I can offer to everyone, I figured that everyone should agree with the design. With that being said, this is the prototype (based on my own '87's stats) that will be available to everyone to replace the old and missing door tags. As you can see, it's the AMC model version; the Chrysler / Jeep + Eagle versions will only take a few minutes to change. The only difference between the versions will be: Manufacturer Year GVR VIN Country of Origin So, what's everyone's opinion on it? Should anything be re-arranged? Different layouts for ratings? Any information that should be added? Lastly, I scoured the forums for info on GVR and GAWR ratings. Pete posted these up a few years ago on a thread and I wanted to know if these are true ratings. Note that later in the thread, the first batch of ratings below this text were for 2.5s only If these aren't accurate, can someone get me some GVR / GAWR ratings for the 2.5 / 2.8 / 2.1 / and 4.0s? I also read that GAWR ratings were the same for all platforms. Is this true as well? ------ 4x2 sb curb weight: 2912, GVWR: 4387 4x4 sb curb weight: 3076, GVWR: 4551 4x2 lb curb weight: 2959, GVWR: 4434 4x4 lb curb weight: 3141, GVWR: 4616 Posted Metric Ton Ratings: Metric tonne lb 2x4 curb weight: 2959; GVWR: 5165 Metric tonne lb 4x4 curb weight: 3141; GVWR: 5347 GVWR from my 86 brochure (all longbeds of course), no curb weight given: 2x4: 4554 4x4: 4779 Metric tonne 2x4: 5208 Metric tonne 4x4: 5375

Project "Honcho" - The '87 MJ
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Haven't driven the Jeep in almost 2 weeks now. I swear I can see weeds growing through the tires from it just sitting there. Had to wait until I got paid yesterday to order a new IAC for it. Hopefully it should be in this afternoon. Getting real tired of seeing it just sit there getting dirty. :fs1: -
1986 Full 2.5 Emissions Decal - Making all those lines was almost as fun as chasing them down in the truck. :fs1:

Last batch for today. FSJ guys should like these, seeing as NOS or even poor condition versions go for over $60 a badge. J10 Fender Emblem Badge J20 Fender Emblem Badge

Decided to continue making MJ Decals for the club in my spare time. I churned this one out from scratch earlier today for my '87. If anyone can snap some pictures of a 2.8 emissions tag, 2.1 Renault Diesel tag, and both 4.0 Renix / HO model emissions tags; along with the build date stickers on the driver's side door I would appreciate it. I've seen fellow MJers that are missing these (especially build date stickers) and I thought it'd be a useful idea to have these around (check my decal thread) in case anyone wants to go get a replacement made. :brows:  Here's an example of how close the picture has to be. This would be the preferred distance / angle.

1987 2.5 Emissions Decal (w/out Vacuum Routing Diagram) - This one took me about 2 hours to make :fs1: Came out very nice, I think. Left it big so it's readable / adjustable if anyone goes to get it made up. Will probably make up emissions decals for 1986-1992 for the 2.5 / 2.8 / 2.1 / 4.0 engines / drivetrains.

Decided to make some more decals in my spare time. This time, inspired by a post over on IFSJA showing the decal on a factory bumper setup. I figured I'll post some more on here, and eventually post all I have over on IFSJA. If anyone on here has a request for a factory decal / design, or something custom, shoot me a PM and I'll see what I can do. It's free, and I only ask that if you use any of these designs on this thread, that you upload a picture of it in action. Jeep "Special Equipment" Sticker found on factory FSJ Truck Bumpers (- the "Manufactured by Flex-N-Gate") 80's AMC/Jeep B/W Logo

Remind me to never get on your bad side, Jim. :brows:

Would that be the 2.5 Litre "Lower Output" emblems? :brows: It says none such thing. Its implied. Hey, you leave us 2.5 Litre guys alone. :rotf: There had to be some kind of platform for you 4.0s.

Got measurements done to add some striping to the truck. Slowly but surely.....

Going to bite the bullet on this one, decided that the next time I go to the P&P, the trip will warrant my hopeful payoff. If I don't manage to snag any, I'll update this thread again.

My local P&P wants $20 for 2 door handles for the truck. Would spend at least another $20 in gas to get there and back. If somebody can part with 2 in decent shape, for a decent price, I'd gladly send some greenbacks your way. PM me with a picture or two and a price if you have what I'm looking for. Thanks :D

Just wondering, how hard this is to find? Out of the at least 10 MJs I've come across, they all had the rubber mat flooring. Would be nice to be able to have some carpet down there instead of that crappy rubber. :fs1: Would I be right in assuming cabin carpet was for the upscale models; or those weird customer orders every now and then? Anybody know of a reputable place to get carpet for the cabin? I'm not really worried about fitment, considering that any after-market carpet will never fit exactly to the contours of the truck; I'm just browsing for the best deals / look. Will probably be going with black carpet, if that makes a difference. I've heard decent things about replacements from J.C. Whitney, so maybe I'll begin browsing their catalogues...

Serious Idling Issue - (Resolved)
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
-Update- Turns out it was the IAC after all. Unplugged it completely from the truck, and it idles at 4-500 RPMs. Can give it some gas and everything works and idles like a dream. Even though I gave everything a good cleaning inside and out, the solenoid just isn't activating inside the chamber due to old age and being worn out. Next stop is cross referencing numbers to find a suitable replacement. My advice to anyone having this problem is: Check, check, and check everything again. Even if you are 99% sure that it couldn't be something you've checked before, don't ever rule it out. Will post results as more progress is made. If replacing the IAC fixes the problem, I'll leave the manifold gasket for another time.
