1992 Jeep Comanche "Maria"
WranglerMangler replied to MariaManche's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I found myself blowing compressed air through all of the vents with a long reach nozzle and the fan on full blast. Remove the vents to get better access too. You may want to remove your blower motor if you think it’s real bad. 45 degree long reach pliers helped pull all the crap out from the windshield vents. Once you think you have it all, more will come. Good luck Sir. -
That looks great! Keep up the good work.

Project “CommuteChe”

Not too bad for a $200 truck that was on its way to the crusher! -
I finished up what could be called “interior unibody stiffening” no idea if it will help anything or make the truck fall in half faster, but it’s done now. Welded in a piece of 1/8” thick x 1.5” wide flat stock to the sheet metal seam between the firewall and floor boards. Went from the drivers side and ran it up over the transmission tunnel to the passenger side. Thinking about doing another one behind the seats up against the back of the cab. I am planning on installing an interior roll cage so maybe I should just leave it alone. Started on a “Newcomer Knock-off” intake manifold as well. Figured I may as well start on the hours of grinding it’s going to take to port the intake manifold. Will also start on the head porting as well once I get going on it. Cutting the back of the manifold off definitely opens it up for full access to the intake runners! I went over and did my buddy a small favor and received this as payment. He claims it was working. Hopefully it really does. Lol.

Project “CommuteChe”

Thanks buddy. Sure makes you realize, just how many miles 100k is. Been driving this truck every single day, anytime I need to go anywhere for a year and a half now, and it’s only 40k! Except for wheeling and most firewood trips. -

CommuteChe has been running great. We hit the 40,000 mile mark together this morning. Terrible pictures, sorry. Hard while driving down the highway in the rain -
I actually have watched this video and suffered along with you because my new Luk with 18k on it left me stranded across Washington state and ended a week long hunting trip an hour after getting camp set up. I limped it home just as you did. Swore right then no more internal slaves. Lol.
-
They really seem to be hit or miss. I’ve had some that have lasted a long time and the last few have crapped out in less then a year. I think anymore, the ones that last over a year are the fluke in the batch.
-
Ok. Thank you. I’ll keep it in mind. I do have a Renix truck that needs the upgrade but would really like to get away from the internal slave set up. Drives me nuts, we can’t get parts these days that last more than a year in my experience.
-
I would possibly be interested in one of those AX15s. I’ve never been into an AX15 before but would hesitate to tear into one. Internal or external slave?
-
I need to get back down to your place for sure. I’m working back down in Lacey this week. I’ll hit you up to see if your available!

Haven’t posted in a minute about progress, it’s slowly been coming along, finally got most of the floor pan patches done. Just on to filling pin holes now. I bought a couple pieces of 1/8” thick x 1.5” wide x 6’ long flat stock to try and stiffen the unibody internally where the floor pan meets the firewall. We’ll see how that turns out. I'm sure that anybody that actually welds is laughing at my ugly repair. I’m not extremely happy with how it turned out, but it is what it is. No light gets through from the bottom anymore and once the carpet is in, nobody will know the difference I suppose. After all the floor repairs are completed, I’m going to start on a roll cage. Will be my first and definitely a learning experience.

Why would the tugboat be running on a trailer? All kinds of problems here. Lol. Must have a hell of a trailer Jack on the front to be able to pull it with a couple of ropes unhooked from the truck.

That sure looks like a lot of fun. Just watched the video. Very impressive! On a “stock” bottom end too.

Looks like a great time. Glad the kids had fun. Looks like they’re at the perfect age too. Worlds greatest uncle for sure! -
Looking great! Need to go get her dirty!

Stay strong Jesse and keep your positive attitude. What an unfortunate situation. Glad you made it through to tell the story. You are in the thoughts of me and my family. Do you have a go fund me? I’m sure most people here are willing to help.

Nice. Great list. Thank you. Basically exactly all the parts I’ve been looking at. Lol. I’d be stoked with anything over 300hp! I'm in construction so it’s our slow season, I’ll start spending some money on her once it picks up a little.
-
I’ve been on his site quite a few times. Lol. I have no problem spending 4-5x what I paid for the truck on the engine. Any personal suggestions for a stroker crank?

Great looking truck! We love pictures! Keep posting your progress. -
Got some floorboard patch work done tonight. Went pretty well for this being the first piece of sheet metal I’ve ever really worked with. Any of my previous “body work” has been done with a 3lb sledgehammer. Found this whole area to be pretty far gone. Cut it out Cardboard stencil Turned it to metal Some slight stitching Came out like this After some grinding Still need to grind on it a bit more but I’m happy with the results for now. Will clean it up a lot better when I get more time. Just 20 more patches to go!

I was always under the impression that Por15 was supposed to be the ultimate stuff for rust protection. But if brake fluid melts it fairly quickly. We may want to reconsider our options. Especially with the cheap crap replacement parts we get these days and how much work is involved in the project. That Ag111 seems like a great top coat for anything. Assuming the tests were all true and honest. Think I may follow his advice of Mastercoat+ raptor+ Ag111

Watched this video on YouTube about the performance of Por15 and figured everyone here could benefit from watching. Glad I found this video before getting to this point of my project.
