  1. LS4 bolts to that transmission. I'd be curious to see how long it holds up. You can get a AX15 that fits from 2.5L/5-speed dakotas for when that motor shreds the AX5
  2. The clutch on my SE feels exactly the same as the external slave AX5 in my MJ but it does have a later master/slave combo from an XJ in it... one of those prebled chineseium ones... Mine has Laredo seats in it (the fronts had power bases but no wires to plug them in but they do match front and rear) mine is the only one I've seen with Laredo seats and SE outside molding... 6/92 build date. Had long pinion frontend until I gutted the white 5.9 for axles/suspension/steering/skids/hitch/towhooks and "upgraded" it. Now it's got one of them Bluetooth front axles until I retube my front driveshaft to make up 2 extra inches... As far as phantom notches? Yep, and my 5.9 does that too, and it's got that electronic nightmare thing goin on... sometimes it turns the blower on full blast with the key off for no reason... I think this is just standard ZJ stuff, lol.
  3. I've heard the AX5 behind the 2.8 has some bigger internals. It takes a different throwout bearing and should already be external slave so it's a little more desirable than most ax5s of that era. Never ever had any issues with the ax5 in my old 85 2.8 XJ... That engine was a different story altogether.
  4. Bro, whoever said "violence doesn't solve any problems" must have never tried it... Now if this idle servo would just respond to the same stimuli...

    LS4+TF904?

Now there's a name I haven't heard in years! Glad the drag comanche is still kickin!
  6. So the check valve in the pump got stuck... Took it out, smacked it on the ground and threw it back in, problem solved! Love that it sounds like a pissed off tractor
  7. threads like this need to go big viral like the "how do i get herculiner off my hootus" thread. This is way better content.

    LS4+TF904?

although nothing special, I've had good experience with the tf904 (behind early 2.5/2.8 in XJs and MJs) there were adapters available to mate it to a SBC. ls4 is a modern 5.3L chevy LS v8 with a 60 degree bolt pattern that will bolt up to this trans... anyone know how much boost the 904 can handle yet?
  9. auto and manual TJ CPSs are not the same, they are physically quite different (the TJ auto is only one bolt, the manual is two, same CPS mount as the XJ/MJ aisin auto 'cause they're both aisin transmissions.) i think the connectors are different on YJ and TJ sensors as well. so he may specifically need a 97 manual TJ CPS. I've had to swap connectors on CPSs doing various AW4 swaps in non XJ/MJ jeeps... The WJ was a hell of a challenge.
  10. So this guy (the wood was not original) is the piece.
  11. if ya ever need a rear wiper switch for it LMK, I have a few in stock. Still trying to find the original shifter knob for mine... it's the only thing I'm missing. what kinda seats did you get in yours? also, have you determined if it's long pinion or short pinion? early build 93 ZJs actually used the same center section as a CJ Dana 30 (long pinion), they're very uncommon, I think they had a few hundred sitting around and decided to shove them into something, like one last ditch attempt of chrysler trying to be cool like AMC. Mine is definitely my favorite Jeep in the fleet but it's far past 300k miles and I'm just trying to keep it nice at this point. It pretty much stays in storage now. the 5.9 is just an $800 tire shredder with a nice interior... (I basically only use it to make old tires fit in my trashcan... lol)
  12. i'll get a pic up when i get home from work but it's a fairly flat plastic piece that's about 8" tall and as wide as the bottom of the back window opening. the other piece is a flat piece of high density cardboard (like door card material) wrapped in fabric with two metal hooks toward the bottom to hold it against the cab wall. this part would be very easy to reproduce as it's just a felt covered rectangle. years ago i found a piece of crown molding that matched the lines so I just painted it burgundy and screwed it to the back of the cab.
  13. you can use the front part of an XJ headliner board and "terminate it at the back" with a 95-97 rear roof soundbar... provided you're not freakishly tall. the rear soundbar used in a 98 5.9 limited grand cherokee actually fits better than the XJ one, but those are much harder to find, they also position the speakers better and have cutouts for component tweeters. this works well for taller folk too. beyond that the only pieces I've had to source comanche specific are the b-pillar post trim and the piece below the back window that ties them together.
  14. well the NTK O2 sensor has been pretty good to me how the hell did you find that?!!?!? I can't get it to show up unless I punch in that part number specifically (EH0243)
  15. still trying to get this thing drained but i'm gonna be pissed if that's the cause. the hose, pump and strainer are only 18months old and it has only seen 90 octane ethanol-free boat gas since I dropped the TJ 2.5 in it. still won't let anything in or out of the fuel line, which leads me to believe the hose is intact (if it blew out, it should pass compressed air, and it doesn't) I parked it last july and it hadn't moved since. hose was not exposed... I took every damn precaution to make sure this didn't happen. it's an offbrand pump and it was fairly loud when it worked. I gotta use a stethoscope just to hear it "run" now so i'm fairly certain the pump is the problem.
  16. there was a TSB released in 93 (if i remember right, this is going back a while now) where mopar sold a kit that gave you a short harness that you plugged right into the ECU connector under the dash. essentially this was a quick fix for the C101 connector issue for 87/88 renix models as the wire length started to cause voltage drop and well, that dodgy connector didn't help either so they bypassed the CKP leads directly to the ECU to raise the peak to peak AC voltage of the sensor's signal. the connector in my harness has seen better days and I'd love to just install one of these harnesses. still works right but it's just one of those things that bothers the engi-nerd in me.
  17. i really want the kit with the bypass harness that wires the CPS straight to the ECU. wish i'd saved those harnesses over the years... stupid stupid stupid...
  18. I had an old part number for these, mopar 53005421 in my notes. I can't find it anywhere has it been superceded or discontinued? i run 90 octane boat fuel and can take advantage of more timing advance. (could just modify the stock one I guess.) this makes me sad
  19. holy hell that's a great idea. can't believe I didn't think of that when I had both an MJ and a mk2 jetta coupe (has those same lights in it) parked in the same driveway... especially considering I found out the golf/jetta radiator and efan works really well in an MJ.
  20. realistically the regulator is built into the throttle body on a 2.5 so I should just have "excessive" return flow right? there will probably be a complete 4.0 swap by 2020 as i'm kinda over this gutless turd of an engine but right now it just needs to go back to moving under its own power. i can hear the pump running, took the line off before the filter and it doesn't even gravity feed. NOTHING comes out even with pump running. thinking about hookin up the vacuum pump in hopes that the check valve is just stuck really hard and inhibiting priming. tank is full to the point of overflowing so that's not the issue, I also gotta drain some before I pop out the sending unit... Thoughts?
  21. are you bench or buckets? had XJ laredo buckets in the 87 (on proper MJ bases, the original all vinyl seats were mostly dirty yellow exposed foam) this 89 with the wrangler 4bangler in it is getting a bench seat and I'm trying to figure out any possible way to push it down and back as far as possible, but I ultimately may just sell that one if i can't drive it comfortably, or gut it and repower my Commando with the 2.5/ax5/242 combo (the dauntless is not in good health and neither is the transfer case.
  22. I have an unusually long torso for my height (i'm a genetic freak with 2 extra vertebrae) on top of being a "big dude" to sit in an MJ with a roof, i have to kinda slouch my pelvis forward and rub my hootus on the steering wheel while driving. it's not optimal no matter where i tilt it, I can't lift off the clutch without turning the steering wheel into a nutcracker.
  23. At this point, I don't believe you can say "used to know" anymore Harwood! I finally "settled down" a little after 10 years of living out of suitcases and airport terminals while mindlessly chasing little green papers and destroying my health shot by shot. Time to get back to my roots! (and i'm still an arrogant Renix elitist + collector of 21 slot grilles, lol)
  24. any updates? I'm starting a similar project this year
  25. Years ago I had a topless MJ because these trucks aren't made for tall people with long torsos. I've been slowly reassembling one over the past 3 years (white 89 shortbed pioneer 2.5 5speed 4x4) New year's day I impulse bought a white 2door 89 pioneer 4.0 auto 4x4 for $500 (rust free, brand new tires that still had tits on the tread and a supposedly blown motor with above average and even compression for 163k miles) so after swapping a good set of stock injectors in place of the yellow chineseium garbage ones the previous owner installed and fixing the pigtail on #3, I ended up with the healthiest 4.0 I've had since the late 90... This acquisition replaced my current 89 2door XJ daily which has been through literal hell. It's been rear ended a few times (I live in Florida now) and the chassis is pretty thrashed from the front torque boxes back but from the b-pillar forward it's in great shape. During the Current MJ build I grabbed a truck that was wrecked pretty hard in the front (another 89 white shortbed, stripped chassis but perfect complete Grey interior) Been diggin around because I know this has been done (or at least attempted) but phucking photobucket ruined the Internet 2 years ago and all the pictures of these builds are basically gone. Can't say I've found exactly what I have in mind, but I've found things that are very close. Since pictures are worth a thousand words, I'll stfu now but this is what I'm after. Not retaining the plastic vent covers but using the small pop out vent windows from a 2dr XJ to create a reasonable amount of interior room behind the longer door, since I learned I can't drive a completely assembled 5-speed MJ. Gotta take the seat out and sit on the floor. My DD 2door has the rear seat permanently removed and the brackets are relocated back half a foot. The LongdoorMJ will replicate this seating position.
