Front speakers for a base truck
eaglescout526 replied to Manche1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I did what you did but with factory tweeters. I notice a difference with the factory tweeters in place than the 4 speaker setup. -
Oops. I’ll shoot you a PM.

Both that one and the Jeep one are hard to find. It seems like they’re always gone already or missing. Good find.

Project: “Comanche Limited”
eaglescout526 replied to jpnjake's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
If you want to make your MJ really stand out, find the small Jeep letters found on the waggys and put it off set on the drivers side of your header panel like the 84-85 headers. -
Oh yeah I could’ve mentioned all this stuff. Plus 84-86 the clock plugs are different. The HVAC deck is unique and can’t go into our MJs without some modifications except maybe the 86 as the vac plug is also very different. My firebird uses the same switches funny enough. I’m still finding things that the 84-85 XJs have like the mounting for the carb computer is different than the Renix ones. That’s gonna be a fun thing for me to figure out how to mount in my XJ.

Rod/Main Bearing Recommendations

That’s a part number for the block. I’ll post a pic from my 4.0L book that shows a spot where there’s some numbers that look random. -
I’ve always liked the older symbol on my 84 XJ. Makes it a bit more unique than the later ones. But I can see why they changed it thanks to the driving lights on the sport bar of the MJ.

Do you have the numbers on the block? I’ve got a 4.0L book that can help us decipher and see what your engine really is. But judging by the old AMC bearings, which are really damn cool by the way, are probably correct on the .001. But chances are unless those guys are expert Jeep engine rebuilders, they have no idea what they’re looking at. -

Well I can assist. Those guys at the counter don’t know old stuff. Those 7 digits are old AMC numbers. Put a J in front of them and you’ll have a part number. AMC probably used the same parts in all their straight 6’s -

So there’s 4 different sizes that were done for the 4.0L. All 4 of those number supersede you an AB. I can still readily get those. Any other parts for the engine you need to know? -
That’s the idea. I’ll get there. I just gotta think that it’s not like my MJ where everything was left untouched.
-
No what I’m saying is you’ll need a new shroud and you’ll have a better chance with hunting one from a 2.5L unless you know where some 2.8Ls are. But regardless they share the same exact shroud is what I’m getting at.
-
Welp went and addressed some issues last night. Ordered a horn contact kit, fixed that. Horn worked for maybe 15 seconds before the relay up and died lol. So I found one in my parts collection to use in place. Then I addressed the dash illumination issues and lo and behold I saw the infamous blue printed circuit. Great. I took my time and was careful with it. Cleaned all the contacts and what not and one of the taps for the cluster connector was ripping. Took extra care until it just said “nope!” And fell right off. Ugh. New printed circuit on the way. And that tab was for the oil pressure gauge. One step forward two steps back.
-
Yes that’s the original shroud. It’s missing the bottom half. You’ll need one from a 2.5L.
