  1. Guess I already had my facts straight. Thanks guys! Now to get all the paint I need...
  2. The black and silver bumper looks freakin sweet!
  3. Just about to transform my mj's baby blue interior to the oh-so sexy black and tan, but have a few questions before I get started. 1. Is there supposed to be light begind the heater controls? 2. How about light in the ashtray? 3. The indicator lights off to the side of the guages,(where the clock would be) I've never seen them work. Do certain trim levels only have certain indicators? I have no clue what trim level I have, as I bought my MJ repainted, and debadged. 4. The big automatic center console from an XJ will bolt right in correct? I remember reading a post, just have to snag the floor brackets from the donor XJ si? I have a column shifting MJ with a bench, so I'm merely going to make either a cubby, blackout plate, or cupholders to go in the place where the floor shifter would be in this console. Any links/pics would be greatly appreciated! -Travis
  4. They had int. Wipers Might wanna check into some older GM vehicles If you can't source one out. They're all a saginaw column.
  5. Dasbulliwagen just hated nissans. The first gen frontier is actually a great truck. That little 3.3 engine would never let you down. I had a 93 pathfinder with the 3.0 (same block) that I sold with over 250,000 on it. Its still on the road today. A 2000 or newer Toyota Tacoma wouldn't be a bad choice. Pre-2000 ones had potential frame rot. I had an O1 doublecab with the 3.4 auto 4wd and it never bogged down even at full load. I kick myself in the butt for selling that truck. Aside from steering rack issues I never had problems. I'm extremely partial to imports tho. My MJ is the first american vehicle I've owned that's been worth a crap.
  6. I thought my latch was gone when I bought mine, then found it in the little leather flappy thing on the cabback. I reglued it with windshield urethane and took my chunk o wood that was serving as a lock out :D
  7. I'm willing to bet he swapped the back to IRS, and with it slammed that low, its probably on bags. When he pops it back to cruisin height, the back wheel shouldn't lean
  8. As blasphemous as it is, I like it, just in the spirit of doing something different At least they went through the work to lower it and make a custom rig out of it. If I had a dollar for every stocl height TJ I've seen sitting on Twenties, my MJ would have a 4.6 stroker under the hood.
  9. Its memorial weekend. Most people are out doing things. Chill the eff out pal
  10. Actually, last I heard the Nissan/Dodge merger got the axe after Chrysler realized they were pretty much effed financially. As a Nissan guy at heart, I couldn't be happier to see that fail. Look at what chrysler did to Jeep. Imagine what would happen if they got their hands on another great auto company. I hope they forget it ever happenned
  11. Save your coin. You say you're building an offroad rig, and starting with a 2wd platform. The money you're going to dump into a 4wd swap, you could have bought a 4wd MJ. You can get a pretty decent 4wd MJ for under a grand
  12. You're gonna have to make your own outta lexan my friend
  13. Mine has the original bumper......brackets The PO welded a plate of steel to make a hitch...thing...out of it. Would I trust it? No. Does it look good? Yup
  14. Yeah. Its gonna come out the same year as the Cadillac Sixteen, the new toyota supra, and a fuel efficient Mopar vehicle all come out. :rotf:
  15. Wait, on second thought. No, that's not what I'm lookin for don. Coaster brakes are not good for trail riding IMO
  16. I've never heard of such things don....I will look into it asap
  17. Yes and no.I've hit the trails with all sorts of bikes. MTBs BMXs and even cruisers. Yes, its nice to have a few speeds when climbing up, but for the most part I usually leave it on one. Kinda a set it and forget it type deal. I left the freewheel on it just in case I ever did decide to go back to a multigeared setup. You can go to your local bike shop and buy single speed MTBs any day of the week. Gary fisher has quite a few
  18. Right now its only a single speed, and that's kinda the way I wanna keep it. For the most part, you don't need a lot of gears to take on trails
  19. We all know what makes a Jeep so great when it comes to tackling the dirt, mud, and rocks. Short wheelbase, Big tires on a little body, Lightweight Body and Frame, Low gearing, Simplicity, and a lack of all things flashy. Now what if someone was crazy enough to put all these qualities into a bike? Who would do such a thing? what would you call it? I present to you: The BJ! (you can take those letters how you will, but it stands for Bike Jeep in my book :rotf: ) Image Not Found I took a 20" BMX frame and extended it 5" to clear 24" MTB tires. As I lack a welder, I did this using Extruded Aluminum I snagged from work. Its secured to the frame in two places, and holds the wheels in line with the chain perfectly Image Not Found For the front suspension, I used a set of Triple Tree mountain Bike forks I had laying around Image Not Found I also didnt want any brakelines getting in my way, so I put a nice little dent in the front and rear of the top frame tube, and ran the lines through there. I decided I'd rather not run front brakes in the spirit of keeping things simple Image Not Found Image Not Found I normally absolutely hate Chain Guards and fenders, but as this bike will be spending all its time in the mud and brush i decided to go with them. Think if it as skidplates Image Not Found As this bike will rarely see city use, I ODG'ed the reflector plates too :D Then I shot the frame and forks with ODG, and everything that you see is black was given a coat of Bedliner, as Rattlecan just doesnt hold up too well unless you put about 8 coats on (I did with the Green) I cleared everything twice when I was done, including the wheels, after i Greened those too. Had some spote where I scratched the hell out of the bedliner, and lets face it, you can't "touch up" bedliner so well So I went to wallyworld and bought some of the new Digital Camo Printed duct tape Image Not Found Finally, no OD jeep is complete without Designation numbers Image Not Found Many thanks to Jimoshel for getting me set straight as to what the letters designate. Get the DRT part? :rotf: Currently the bike is a single speed, using a deraileur to hold the back gears in alignment, and the fron sprocket is a huge one off a BMX, keeping things simple again Eventually i'd like to: Get a disk Brake setup for the rear wheel Put a Bontrager Long reach neck on it Wrap the grips in digital Camo Grip Tape Replace the crappy formed rims with forged ones put some new kevlar reinforced Tires on it Maybe someday I'll return it to a 21 speed, but for now it stays single speed Replace single piece crank with 3 piece forged crank I'm just waiting on the Jeep vinyl to come in from ebay. it will then go on the top bar between the brake line Wadaya think?
  20. Always carry a full change of clothes, a towel, jacket, stocking cap, and gloves. You may laugh at the idea, but wait till you're weiner deep in mud, you'll want an extra pair of levis MRE's are another good thing. I do believe there's a similar post on the board :typing:
  21. What kind of ATF? Does it matter? If this is so great I'll be buying a gallon of each for soaking bike chains. Way cheaper than PB blaster
  22. Be weary with using plex for the windows, depending on what type you chose, it could yellow out in a few years with heavy sun.
  23. A CPS or two.
  24. To each their own, but that's illegal in some states
  25. It probably would have, but I'm lazy like that. And you might have had to mask off the inside of the light. I was painting several things the day I did this, so I didn't want to take anything off
