  1. Wow thanks a lot :) haha. The previous owner said he put a 4x8 piece of plywood so... I'm not sure.
  2. Ok, thanks. :)
  3. I'm guessing it has the AX5 transmission since the year is 87?
  4. Hey guys, got the year of the MJ, it is an '87 so.. should my specs be about the same as posted before? I'm still not sure about whether the bed is long or short..
  5. Thanks, I don't have the MJ with me... It's in Alabama... :fs1: but I might email them and ask.
  6. Thanks a lot, from what I remember, I don't believe it's a long bed... I'm not sure though because whenever I saw it, it had a top over the bed, so it might be a long bed. Thanks for the info! Maybe we can take an offroad trip to Uwharrie or something in the near future. Glad to see a member close to me on here!
  7. As in specs I mean like axles and trans and stuff... Sorry
  8. Looks great! I have a Jeep military trailer build coming up also! Here is a link to the forum with some pics http://www.wranglerforum.com/f118/jeep- ... 45331.html
  9. Hey for the tires.. If you don't mind switching tires around alot, you could use your 35s on your YJ on your MJ.. If the bolt pattern is right... I know on the TJ it's 5x4.5 not sure on YJ or MJ. Just a thought.
  10. Hey yall I should be getting an MJ soon in August... I can't wait!! Been in the family for years and all the other generations it's been through, no one really 'car happy' enough to fix it up. Grandpa and my dad used it to go hunting 'back in the day' and it got places they didn't know it could.. Grandpa used it also to pull the boat in when winter set in but once he got a Silverado (bigger engine and trip worthy if needed) he passed it down to my Uncle. My Uncle got it because he didn't have a pick up truck to haul stuff that he needed in. He kept it for about 2-3years and kind of gave up on it but still uses it from time to time. Not long ago we were talking and he said some kids (he's a professor) wanted to get it (buy it) to use for fishing and stuff and he was about to but I hopped in and said I'll take it. Told me it was sitting in storage  and didn't want to pay $30 a month to keep it there. Since then the Air Conditioning went out and the guy quoted him $1500 to fix it, well guess what I'm doing this summer, Classes for Air Conditioning! Like woah, omg. hahaha sorry had to throw that in.. Anyway once I get it I will fix the Air Conditioning and do some tune ups, clean it and all that stuff... Sorry for the story.. What I wanted to know is can anyone give me some specs of this Comanche? I can give you what I know so far: 1986 Jeep Comanche Chief, 5-speed, 4 cylinder, 4x4. I don't plan on going off-road with this just yet (college, I know :ack: ) I just plan on using it for a daily driver since my TJ is sooo bad on gas. (Could be with 33" tires and 3.73 gearing)(good ting is the 4.0L on that). But in the long run, the Manche will be my Daily Driver to and from school. Sorry for the long intro/story but just thought I would introduce myself to the club (not in yet though, but will). I do know some things about Jeeps from looking at the forums and myself, having a TJ. There are somethings that I don't know, but that's why people go to the forums, to learn and have a great time... Thanks again everyone! Happy Trails Mike (If some of this doesn't make since, it is late where I am at, so sorry..)
  11. Ok thanks a lot! I will be getting a '86 Comanche Chief 4cyl 5 speed.. So I should look for a 4cyl donor XJ? Thanks again. Sorry for all the questions, new to the MJs... Got a TJ ;)
  12. Thanks for the replies guys! I have/will have a 1986 Comanche Chief so I'm guessing I will go with the '84 - '87 XJs correct? Thanks
  13. I've seen in some Build threads here they replace their old guage cluster with an XJ's... I believe, but i'm not sure, it's the 1995s?? In the threads they (I guess) change the mileage to the original (to what they are swapping it in to) and I was wondering how? Any help/input will be appreciated! Thanks
  14. Go with a ford8.8 swap... Junkyards around my area sell em for $80..
  15. Nice, nice build! Getting an MJ in about August for my DD.. I have a 98 TJ right now.. :waving: but I can't wait until I have that MJ... It will be free too :) used to be my grandpas but went to my Uncle then it's going to me to fix up and stuff What do you teach? Auto Mechanics I guess right? haha I'm going to school for that too.
  16. Ok, I will try and find a donor XJ to do it with.. I'm planning on doing this later on, once the engine has blown or something.
  17. Dang, thanks guys, so the years are about 87-90 4.0L from XJ's? Might buy a donor and just do engine and transmission then part out the rest on craigslist or something. I might have to bring 'em down to my Grandparents to keep as storage and run down there one summer and work on it.
  18. I don't think 36s will fit with just a 6" lift. I'd go with your plan on adding 2" check the gearing in your axles so they will work with 36s. Believe it will save you.
  19. Ok, thanks. Atleast I know what I"m expecting now.. What are the years of the XJ's that are bolt in 4.0L engines? What will I need to get also with the engine? Thanks
  20. Yeah I was thinking about doing a 4.0L swap to make it my DD.. I might just keep it stock though. And sorry no pics yet might have to dig
  21. Hello everyone. I've been visiting this site for awhile to just look at everyones rides. Good news I heard about 2 weeks ago is that I might be getting my uncles/grandfathers 1986 jeep Comanche chief.. In about august after my cousins wedding. Said he will give it to me since I like jeeps (I have a 1998 Tj with 5" lift and 35s getting an 8.8 for the rear soon). I plan on using the mj as my daily driver through college. I know it's a 4cyl 4x4 5speed I don't know much more about it. If I visit down in AL soon I'll look at it. I know that metal fill plug is D44 (hoping it has it) but I'm not sure about the transmission (ax15 or ba10 I think yall call it) wwondering why the ba is so bad. Thanks for reading and hoping to have a great time in the Comanche club as well as wrangler :-)
