I have a 1987 jeep Comanche, I plan on taking a 10 hour trip to get it back home... Athens Alabama to fort mill south Carolina... It has a some problems... It veers to the right, steering wheel wobbles, and some oil around valve cover... I was wondering what should I bring/take with me on the trip... I will try to go to shop and get the veering right problem fixed, but I will also bring some extra oil, antifreeze and a toolbox... It has 2.5l 4 cyl 5 speed any help will be appreciated!!

Hey Guys, This is my 1987 Jeep Comanche Chief 2.5L 5 speed, As some of you know, my Uncle didn't want his Comanche anymore so he was going to give to one of his students at the college he works at... Well for my 4th of July trip to Alabama, I gave him a dollar and it's now mine. :) I plan on using it to commute to school, because gas in my TJ is just horrible. I do plan on doing some minor touch ups, like the gauge cluster, steering wheel column, and oil leak around engine, and also fix the veering to the right situation (any help?).. I have some pics of when it wasn't clean, I cleaned the carpet and everything up in AL, but it's not in my hands yet, because I need to get some insurance on it first and then I'll try and drive it the 10 hours from AL. Hope you guys like it! Mike

Ok, what is the best brand of engine cleaner?? And also, my MJ runs on the AMSoil system... Is anyone familiar with that? It does burn oil, but not much at all...

Hey everyone, I have a 1987 Jeep Comanche Chief and I was looking under the hood when I saw a lot of oil/gunk around the engine, (cover?), would that mean a new gasket would be needed? I'm not sure what it is called, I'm new, but I think it is the engine cover gasket or something? Maybe the valve cover and some oil gets all gunky (lol), but what would be something good to clean the outside with? Thanks for all the help! Mike

Alright guys, it has been awhile... but I have good news! I'm in Alabama and we might be able to bring the Comanche back up in August, I'm just cleaning it, fixing the A/C and touch ups... I looked under it and it has a DANA44!!! I was very excited. I took a couple a pics on my iPhone so I might be able to get them up soon, if not, I will post them Tuesday! Thanks

98 black TJ 4"susp 1.25" body got 33s... I have the new general grabber tires from the rally truck racing series... Smittybilt rear bumper tire carrier with high lift mounted on... I go to circle k a lot can't beat those cokes for $.85 haha I rarely see any mjs in this area. There is one that goes to my college (York tech) but haven't seen on forums...

Bumper looks great! especially after those ends.. As I was reading, I was thinking about the same thing with the hitch behind the plate...

As stated above, nothing earlier than '86... I got a replacement for my '87 at my local u-pull-it, It came from a '89 Cherokee... Pics: The back of your cluster, SHOULD look like that... I'm not sure though, someone might chime in and correct me... Hope this helps. 8)
