  1. I thought that the shift knob had fallen apart. I think I am on my 4th knob. The one I have now the knob came off but the ceramic didn't crumble, I was regluing my rearview mirror tab back on and had extra glue so I tried it on the knob and it has held like a champ. I do keep a spare wooden knob in the truck but hopefully won't need it.
  2. Nice truck. Did it take a lot for your dad to give it to you? That's ok to get it repainted after 24 years, awesome. I get mine painted every 10 years because of the brutal Florida sun. I also like the matching shift knob!
  3. Looks much better cleaned up. I don't know who originally came up with the idea of painting fender flares and bottom part of the body black, mine is painted that way, it really makes the lines pop, brilliant!
  4. Great find, any significant rust from being up north? White with black interior, can't wait to see it. Be sure to keep that black interior up north! Good luck and welcome to the club.
  5. Cool, jeep fleet. Great find on the mj. Welcome to the club and good luck controlling the madness! As for suggestions, I don't know what interior you have, if you have a bench seat and don't need to carry more than one passenger, I would go to buckets. My first mj had a bench and I like the buckets 10 times better.
  6. I think that is my favorite mod. Great work!!!!
  7. Here are a few pics with the new topper and bed slide put back in. I bought the topper from a guy in South Carolina for $100 and had it shipped here (u-ship.com) for $300. It was white and I sanded, primed and painted it black. I also sprayed the bedliner (rustoleum rattle can). I bought the bedslide off of craig's list last fall. It came out of a Dakota. It is a little short but I am not complaining, I picked it up for $225. I am hoping to put a new stereo in soon. Thanks for looking and hope to meet some of you in person someday.
  8. That is great work. Looks like you are being very methodical. I can't wait to see the end result. Are you going to re-stripe it?
  9. I am so impressed with the work you did from start to finish. Although I wouldn't pick black living in Florida, I would definitely have it up north. Great work!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Welcome from another original mj owner. Mine was also my first brand new vehicle bought. Although I didn't order anything custom I did get under the skin of the saleswoman. I bought it the week of Christmas during one of the coldest weeks on record in KC and their was another one exactly like mine sitting next to it. With it being the end of the year she had no leverage at all and literally threw the pen at me and said, "Will you just sign the paper!" It was great.
  11. That is a cool idea. Too bad I already found a nice fiberglass topper to replace my old aluminum topper. I am trying to give it away for free.
  12. CW, that is some great work. Even though I don't plan on doing a 4X conversion, you have given me many things to think about.
  13. Nice truck, I like the stickers, they make it one of a kind! For not having body shop experience, awesome work!
  14. That is one nice mj. Awesome find. I agree with everyone who says keep it stock. I also agree to put it in a car show and see how it does.
  15. Great deal, great save and great work already. I wonder if the guy actually got what he wanted for the mj from 2 years ago.
  16. Thank you all for all your compliments. I was embarassed when I picked up the truck from the paint shop at how neglected the inside was. I really cleaned it up and I am hoping to put a new stereo system in soon. Does anyone know if any 6X9 speakers will fit in behind the doors?
  17. Hi, my name is Buck and I live in central Florida. I am the original owner of this '89 mj pioneer. It is a 2wd LB 4.0 5 speed with 241,500 on the ticker. I bought it in Kansas City and had it there for the first year and moved to Florida and have been here since. I had an '86 2.5 automatic before that and when I traded up to the 89 I had no idea I would still be driving it 20 years later. To say it's been a great truck is an understatement. I can't remember when I replaced the clutch, and the only complaint I've had is the clear coat breaking down here in the Florida sun. I had it painted 10 years ago and just got it back in Dec. for the 2nd paint job and I am so happy with the work the guy did. He said it will look even better after I wax it. For you off-roaders I am sorry to say this will never be a 4X4 swap. I am a musician (drummer/percussionist) and it hauls all my equipment without fail, well almost, one flat tire and one broken serpentine belt on the way to gigs, not bad for 20 years eh? Everything is stock although I am considering black rims after getting this paint job. The color is a little darker grey than original and the painter agreed to paint the bottom part and wheel wells black. It was his idea to paint the cowel black but I really like it. The first time I had it painted the pioneer stripes were removed and I was going to replace them and just liked it better w/o them. The aluminum topper is history (anybody want it?) and I was lucky enough to find a mint condition fiberglass topper in SC and had it shipped here. I'm in the process of painting it black, also will be spraying the bed. The bed slide will go back in and until then I'll be hauling equipment in the family Escape. I will look into rebuilding the engine in the future but it still runs great! I have found so much information and inspiration on this forum so thank you all, I hope to pick some of your brains so sorry if I ask dumb questions along the way.
