  1. that's very cool . . . Mike
  2. I see, well i was just wondering . . . It seem's the little Jeep's are the only I-4 truck's getting restored these day's, I haven't seen an S-10 nor a Ranger being restored, pimped out or v-8 hot rod'ed sure but i have seen a dozen of these Jeeps under going a full n complete restoration as they where a AMX,Camaro, Mustang, Javelin ECT . . . I was just wondering what the significance was ? Mike
  3. Cool good for you very awesome . . . the 2.5 is good enough for my Cheap Jeep heap . . . Mike
  4. as for the Ford I'm am sure transmission failure is right around the corner, it's been my EXP, that a Ford auto trans only last about 40-60K miles . . . Normally right after such an aggressive stunt is when it start's shifting funny then within 6-9 month it smokes all the forward gears out of it. I only buy Fords with manual transmission's from now on, even tho i try to avoid that brand all together as they cost to much to fix. .............................................................................................................................................................................. Now as for the pulling, once the jeep came up out the whole, before the axle broke would have rehooked to the rear corner that was in the air, and pulled him backward . . . Mike
  5. Yes, it dose reduce sound a decent amount, give it a try worst it dose is make your floor last longer . . . Mike
  6. I understand that part, Thats not what i'm getting at . . . I feel it is only being Fixed because its a "JEEP" Had his truck been an S-10 Chevy in the same shape i feel it would have been recycled. We got truck's like that around here, people just jack them up let the frame flex the opposite way stuff a 2" x 4" between the box n cab, then they let the jack down the wood hold's the cab n box level, then they drill 3-5 holes from cab to box, then they run 3-5 Lag bolt's through the cab n wood into the box and tighten them up, and drive it a few more years then scrap it . . . I see this done to Mazda B2000-B2200's all the time, and a yota from time to time, the Nissan 82'-86' ish D21 reg cab short bed 2400Z powered truck's seem to last the longest out of the tiny truck's . . .the one with the 4 square head lights . . . never seen one of them rusty . . . this body is the long laster: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl= ... 8%26um%3D1 Mike
  7. :rotf: :rotfl2:  wasn't that an interesting comment ? :rotfl2: :rotf:  Truck's already junk i add my commentary to the video . . . "HURSTSSAMX" Mike
  8. Is a rusty 80's Economy truck really worth this much cutting & welding ? . . . I think if had it been a 1980's Ford Ranger, Chevy S-10, GMC S-15, or a Dodge Dakota for sure the truck would have been scrapped with no second thought's or parts saved, Just simply loaded up n hauled away ! . . . There must be something special about jeep's it's the only little throw away truck i have seen getting restored ! Stupid question but why ? . . . all the fuss to save a Jeep ? I;m not harshing you jeeper's at all just :???: Mike
  9. 1987 Comanche Sportruck 2.5 2wd 342000 miles <- really ! ? ! ? I knew that 2.5 seemed awful durable, mine has 189,000 no blow by no oil leaks runs strong, it has a good amount of power but with the new tires it's going to get doggy i'm sure thats why i would like to get it Regeared around the time i get new tires. . . Mike
  10. thanks . . . I put a "B" 6,000LB plates on it, as i was told it was a 1/2 ton, Not a 1/4ton as i thought . . . Mike
  11. PM sent i sent you some info that might help you as well on fixing the 6.5's . . . now that i know the in's & out's . . . ......................................................................................................................................................................... Now what gearing should i go with ? i'm going to be running either a 235/75R15 29.1" tall tires or G78-15 28.5" tall tires. i'll more then likely run the 235's weather i regear it or not. what gearing should i swap to if i get around to it ? Mike
  12. Ya i bought into the general its a pile of junk thinking 70% of the world has but the other 30% really love the 6.5, I now know its quirky's and myths whats need to be done what shouldn't be done ect n now i know how to fix it and make a trouble free diesel i just didn't have the money to fix it all at once so i was doing 1 thing at a time but i couldn't keep up n get it done fast enough and it bit me da  you know, but anywho enough about that truck still a sore spot, i'm making a payment on a shiny nice looking rig while driving and old beat up truck not happy about that . . . do check out that V-6 GMC site good info i just wouldn't rely on the power rating's as from what i experienced there off or inaccurate . . . tho they did say the 379's rating's came from a 73'-74' brochure . . . they say the 379 V6 made 170hp n 266tq my engine was rebuilt, No mod's or upgrades done and it spun 175hp n 388tq at the fly wheel belts n pulleys installed fully assembled complete engine. back to the program. . . Mike
  13. :dunno: i'm not sure how they got twisted into the same thread, i have a feeling the 4leakier had some thing to do with it. This thread was to be about the general data of my truck. GVWR, Gear ratio, factory tire size ect . . . this post was to find out what it was, the other posted was take the info of what was and what it is now and turn that into what it will be . . . Mike
  14. i got told the same about the 6.5 a handful of guy's said no the 6.5 is great diesel you just gotta fix these things here and rattled off a list, which i tired working my way threw but it failed to often for me to get it 100% set, i really didn't want to get involved in another engine like it which is what the 4.0L seems to be . . . few thing's needing to be addressed then all the "bad stuff goes away" or it sounds simulair to me. ok fine, the 4.0 n 4.0 HO ain't as bad as one thought ok, but to me it's always going to be the 4leakier  Thank's for the 2.5L advice  i was trying to find which gears i had in the other thread so i would avoid buying a ratio and finding out i already have that ratio . . . Mike
  15. :dunno: I'm not sure how we got on the same chat 2 different place's one was about general truck data the other was about Upgrades and modifications :dunno: Mike
  16. that they are a rather rare engine, these day's. if you read the power for the 379 V6 ? it says 170hp n 266tq power, now when i had my 379 V6 in my GMC 4500 rebuilt it turned 175hp n 388tq at the fly wheel with all the belt driven devices attached, which is not what the GM paper work Ratings say . . . I know a lot of the AMC 390 V8's turned a good bit more then rating's along with the 401's n a few 360's folks simply rebuilt as it was no mod's or upgrades . . . yet they turned more then as was rated for online. Now if you took the 8.5 compression 401 truck engine compared to the 10:1 401 car engine and engine dynoed them both then chassie dynoed them both there actual power out put would rather close only difference would be what the compression added . . . I'm sure the 4.0 is a fine engine "just misunderstood" well i heard that same line about my 6.5 diesel it was and still is a financial disaster, which is why i bought my MJ i couldn't trust the 6.5 any more i also couldn't afford to make the payments and fix it at the same time so i parked it and put the jeep on the rode, now i'm driving 1 and paying for another . . . I guess i should have been more precise on the info i was looking for, i have a 1988 Comanche with an AMC 2.5L I-4 TBI 4spd manual 2WD short bed . . .so thats the info i wanted . . . My mistake i guess  Mike
  17. I gotcha, i was simply stating i wasn't interested in the 4 Leakier as every i inspected had and air box full of oil, almost every 5spd manual howled and whined . . . So when i was this recurring problem then asked others about it ti got told the 4.0 was powerful but ate through oil, the 5spd manual whined an failed often and i was to avoid them. . . So i did so as i was trying to find a cheap DD so i could park my K2500 as couldn't afford to make payment on it and repair the truck at the same time because it kept breaking down. I have a 2.5L 4spd manual 2WD short bed Comanche, i had no interest in the 4.0 nor was interested in an engine swap, but if i was i would have gone with an AMC V-8 regardless of the power rating's. But like i said i have no interest in doing such a swap . . . Most people would have dropped the issue after i had said not interested, not tried to beat it down one's throat . . . Next time i'll just ignore it i guess . . . I was started the thread for finding stuff out about the 2.5L TBI simple mod's like TBI spacer cold air intake exhaust up grades, header, muffler's, and what sized pipe works best. anything else along them lines . . . Mike
  18. I walked away from every 4.0L as there air box was full of engine oil, just the same i would have with any other engine i knew nothing about . . . The only oil found in any air filter's of my truck's are the ones that require it do to having an "Oil bath" air filtration system. Cool you educated me on the 4.0 leakier and its oil issues still not interested in one . . . I could give every detail of the GMC big block V-6 engine produced from 1960-1974, in sizes 305 V6 351 V6 379 V6 401 V6 432 V6 478 V6 both offered in Gas and diesel available in every thing from a GMC 1000 - GMC 9500 . . .it was not offered in any Chevrolet of the time period either. Now dose it mean anything to you ? probably not you have a Jeep . . . More then likely you'd spend 10 post's telling me GM never made a 305 V6 it was V8 . . . from late 74+ i'd say your right . . .In 1974 the 305 became a V8 . . . Now educate yourself: http://6066gmcguy.org/ Mike
  19. I know stupid insurance guy's right ? . . . nothing special about my Rig's any how . . . My Rig's: 1953 Studebaker M275: Image Not Found The damage the drunk when he ran off the road n hit my truck: Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found 1959 Mack B61T: 1962 GMC 4500: 1988 Jeep MJ : 1995 GMC K2500: that's all i got for photo's in my bucket account . . . as you can see there is nothing special about my Rig's just basic old truck's that start run drive steer and stop . . .they all run and drive and are driven all summer long, the 95' GMC K2500 was my daily driver but the 6.5 diesel kept giving me grief so i bought the Jeep as a plan B beater i could use if the diesel acted up this winter and well it , So i put the Comanche on the road and started driving that about a week or 2 ago now so far its been trooper . . . I have no idea what it's longevity is but for now it my driver . . . Mike
  20. Good thinking Slick i don't know about the 4.0L only every one i have has an air filter full of engine oil. I also don't have a 4.0L I-6 in my truck so there I have no need to know about that engine. If i was interested in the 4.0L i'd simply ask ! show me a place where i have ever said "hey guy's i would like to know about the 4.0L I-6" simply because i didn't, there for your adding INFO that is not needed nor wanted. I simply asked about the 1988 Comanche and the 2.5L I-4 engine as that is what i have and what i wanted to know about. Mike
  21. I AM NOT INTERESTED IN AN ENGINE SWAP have your 6 year old read that, i feel sorry for the child poor kid has a parent who can't READ ! :rotf: :rotfl2: or dumb as stump ? :rotf: :rotfl2: Mike
  22. :rotfl2: :rotf: :rotfl2: :rotf: :rotf: :rotfl2: any body swapping a larger engine into a 1980's ECONO truck isn't worried about weather or not if it'll last any great length of time :rotfl2: :rotf: they simple want to pound the piss out of it till it blows up then crush it and move on, watched it done dozens of times to S-10's n Ranger's. . . lets try this once more, and if you can't read have your mother help you read the RED letter's: I AM NOT INTERESTED IN AN ENGINE SWAP So what's going on here ? can't you read ? or do you enjoy being made fun of ? Mike
  23. The rather SIMPLE point your not getting here slick is i am NOT interested ! I don't care if the I-6 had 10,000hp n 750,000tq & the V-8 only 30hp n 50tq ! if i was going to an engine swap i would do a V-8 swap not an I-6 I could easily make the 290 V8 turn numbers the 4.0 HO could never hit simple cut n dried, that's not the point here . . . I better bold that apparently folks can't read. . . I SIMPLY DO NOT WANT TO DO AN ENGINE SWAP ! can you see me now ? :rotfl2: :rotf: :rotfl2: Mike
  24. :wall: Liabilities :fs1: ya know . . . anything happens it's my tail, so i'd rather i was the one who whipped out the new caddy rather then some body who borrowed the truck . . . Mike
  25. the way they rated changed sure but the power out put didn't change. i ran 2 a like engines with 2 different rating's and when both were engine dynoed they turned the same number's at the flywheel then once installed in a like vehicles they also chassie dynoed almost identically . . . AMC also used 10, 10.2 and 12.5 :1 Compression ratio's on the engines i listed which where also tuned for performance app's. the 330hp n 430tq 401 v.s. the 215hp n 320tq 401 would more then likely would turn the same numbers if tested side by side . . . unless the 330hp engine was a 10:1 motor then its going to turn higher numbers. . . Mike
