That's a pretty sharp looking conversion. The part that bothers me is the forward slope of the rear door next to the cab vent, but I guess that's kinda unavoidable. I'd like to see the interior plastics at the back of the cab.

That seems like a lot of work, but it really makes sense doing the entire firewall. Props on tackling such a project.

1990 Rebirth ('97 Conversion)
Rymanrph replied to Rymanrph's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Jealous? I'm pretty much catching up to you! I got the new Bushwackers installed: Couple things bothered me about the install: 1: The instructions are awful. Compared to the instructions included with the flat flares, these are simplistic at best. 2: The engineering and attachment method of the flat flares is far superior. The cut outs were about $100 more, but felt about $100 cheaper. However, these actually fit my application. 3: I should have put the flares out in the sun for a while before I installed them. One of the rear flares was so badly contorted in the box, it was so out of shape that I confused it for the wrong side. I actually installed the wrong flare on the wrong side. When I went to install the other flare, I realized my mistake. They are not labeled well at all (especially compared to the flat flares) 4: The flat flares use a nut on the back of a bolt to hold the mounting brackets on. The cutouts just use a sheet metal screw. I would have felt much better with a nut on the back. I still need to figure out what to do about the screw that needs to be installed directly into the washer reservoir, but I'm done and I'm very glad. I still think the flat flares looked a little better, but I'm glad these actually fit correctly. I'm glad I've got new wheels and tires coming because these 31s look rather ridiculous now. -
I'm putting ACOS on the front of my truck and since the height of the front of the truck determines the angle of the driveline, how do you compensate in the rear if you make height adjustments up front?

I don't know what you're budget is, but they are relatively cheap. I got mine from a big junk yard with a 12 month warranty for $140ish. Granted they tried to give me five 231s before actually finding a 242 that I paid for.

That's fantastic. Nice truck! What are your plans for it? -

Rockmj wins the award for guessing my wheels. But I had a little custom touch that I was waiting on. I've only painted one trim ring so far just to see how it will look. I hope I'll have enough paint left over in my 12oz spray can to do the rest. I did a photoshop of the black wheels and the polished and with the green, the black looked a lot better. I though the cragars I had on the truck before looked really good, plus these had the widest offset of any 15" wheel I could find. I also got the shock mounts and spring perches cut off of the new 8.25. -

I didn't like the way the rear flat flares looked on the truck, so I'm selling them. viewtopic.php?f=24&t=36009 I have a set of cut out flares on the way. They weren't my first choice, but I think I'll be a little happier with the fitment in the long run. -

I guess it depends on how much it costs. KJs aren't in the pull a parts here. I haven't really read much about the swap. -

I got the other front Bushwacker installed. I cut the fender liner too short on the driver side, but I'm not going to sweat it for now. The back two will have to wait until next weekend. I also picked up my new 8.25: You can see my improvised bed mat in there too. -

I love the color. I had picked a very similar color as my second choice. New paint always makes a dramatic difference. -

Is it staying black or are you going with something else? -

The wheels are 15s. I wanted a C class tire and they are easier to find with a 15" wheel. Tires are much cheaper too. Plus the wheel I picked didn't even come in the finish I wanted in a 16" or a 17". I should be able to show you something next weekend. -

Well, I got one bushwacker flare on. I will be busy all weekend, but I've got Monday off, so hopefully I can get at least the other front one done. I'm picking up the new 8.25 Monday morning too. Photobucket isn't cooperating right now, so hopefully the picture will show up at some point. -
I just got a reman original.

How difficult is it to swap the pump? My box was leaking badly on my '99 XJ, but after replacing the box, steering is very difficult. I believe my pump is probably on its way out.

Diesel Fuel Only - Factory Diesel Comanche

The roof lights really don't bother me that much. I'd totally rock the red interior though and I'd probably go with a silver wheel since there is so much chrome on the truck. -

My spring over axle conversion kit (perches, shock mounts, etc.), Bushwackers and wheels came in today. Still waiting on the track bar which should be in any day now. I need to go ahead and order my new 8.25. I should be able to pick it up maybe next Friday. I want to mock up the suspension this weekend so I can decide between 33s and 35s. Then I just have to pick a tire. From there it will be a wait until the first of July when my re-gear is completed. At that point I can install the long arms, the new axle, ACOS and measure for bump stops and shocks. Summer is going to be half over before I finish this. I can't wait to show you guys my wheel choice. Some of you guys will hate it while others will totally love it. I haven't decided which camp I'm in yet. Not quite ready to show yet though; give me a week and a half or so. -
$14K Restored Comanche *eBay

If he can get $14k for that, I should be able to get $20k plus for mine! I'm going to be rich! -
I had a '91 4.0 in my Wrangler that would blow oil out of the dip stick and it was because of poor maintenance. All the oil passage ways were clogged and sludged up. I assume the oil was rarely changed with any frequency. I removed the valve cover and cleaned out what sludge I could. I then ran a light engine flush and changed the oil several times. I still had to run an oil catch can but it wasn't nearly as bad as before the flush.

The Clayton long arms have arrived (cross member not pictured)! -
Thanks. Is there anything else I need? How do you tell the two apart? The Puegeot is split down the middle. They were in trucks until about mid '89 I believe Only if you consider 2,000 miles close...

I hadn't seen this thread before. Let's see.... 1. I'm an identical twin (we both like Jeeps. He has a '12 JK on 35s) 2. I hate having my reflexes checked. It creeps me out! 3. I have never used a complete set of tires. I either sell the car or tires before having to replace them. 4. I have the license plate for every vehicle I've owned (except the one that was stolen) even though I've been told the state of NC wants me to turn them in. 5. I've never had a beer. I'm certainly old enough and I've had other alcohols, just never really had the desire to try it.

Where are you? I have an AX-15 I could hook you up with.
