  1. Okay that’s what I thought about shift positions...what was throwing me off is the nomenclature on the shifter display. Now when I have it in 4wheel drive one tire will spin while the others don’t...is that where lockers come in. I’m trying to understand how exactly the drive train works. Lockers refer to he hubs, correct? Would it be feasible to put lockers on the axle set I have, front and rear/ether-or? 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  2. I’m finding conflicting info made more difficult by t being unknown what the PO changed underneath. I have an 87 xj Wagoneer limited and I’m trying to figure out what exactly it’s equipped with. I know from the labels on them that I have a NP242 transfer case and AW4 transmission. I believe that is the select track package but I’m wondering how exactly it operates in terms of 4 Wheel Dr. and the differentials. I have included pictures of my axles, I’m wondering what they are. And what I should upgrade them to, if necessary. Also, I’m wondering exactly how many shift positions the transfer case has. Shifter doesn’t line up with anything on the display next to handle. Also my spring on the driver side is rubbing against the, steering knuckle? I’m not sure the proper term. Any fix? 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  3. I've got a buddy that can get ya some go fast to keep you awake. Lol uh drive safely? Sounds like a fun trip! 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  4. Great info, thanks! Might take this weekend and go shopping. 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  5. I'm planning on keeping this thing and passing it down. I've been eliminating unnecessary plugs/connector as I change out and upgrade wiring. I've got the factory lamps, but once I get my new bumper built and know what lights I'm going to have on it I'll just make a custom harness 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  6. Okay, the harness looks in good shape except for the work arounds PO did, I might spend a few more hours seeing what I can undo before I go with the whole new harness option. As far as the head lamps...I'll probably end up making a custom one. How do I tell exactly what year I'm looking at at the jy? 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  7. I'll try removing the module and plugging them together. It frustrating I'm running into so many cut and spliced wires with things unplugged...idk what's supposed to be there and what's not. Also, I put power to the motor and it works on both speeds so it's not the motor. The blinker/wiper/cruise control arm is missing the cruise control portion entirely and is very loose....I'm thinking the issue might be with the control switch itself, but I'd like to ensure it's wired proper before pulling the steering column.... Does anyone know or have a link to a wiring diagram for the wiper system, I can't find one. I've found the Russian site with factory manuals, that's how I was able to know what to test on the motor/control connection..but I'm seeing different color wires from control switch to delay to harness....just trying not to pull my hair out. Also, how difficult would it be to bypass the control arm entirely and just put the wipers on a rheostat dial switch? 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  8. It came factory with fog lights, Wagoneer limited, double stacked clipped. He removed the fog light switch and put an sux fan switch (the relay above the egr solenoid in my pic, I'm not sure what the lower relay is? Factory fog lights? It runs into the headlamp harness but I couldn't get it to affect anything Chasing down PO wiring gremlins... Also noticed the factory wiper delay module was unplugged from one side and had the white wire from the control switch side running to the green w/black on the other side... 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  9. Okay thanks! Also, I believe this is my wiper delay, anyone know what the cut wire is? 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  10. Also, now I'm confused. I'm looking at the ecm and it says bendix not renix.....is renix a slang? 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  11. Chasing down wiper problems and found a mystery relay with a wire disconnected. When I touch the wires together I can hear it click, so I know it works. But can't find what it works... Anyone know? Above driver wheel near egr solenoid... 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  12. Why do all the images say broken? 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  13. Also, I check the breaker and it looks slightly corroded, also one side of one side of the receiving pins is mission causing a poor connection/corrosion I would imagine. 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  14. I'm not sure exactly, I'm just getting into them. They didn't work when I bought it. I pulled the cover to inspect and found that the motor wasn't plugged in. I plugged it in and tried them again, still nothing. That's as far as I gotten into it, been chasing down a belt squeal which I've since fixed and can now hop back to the wipers. Note: ignition...needs work. All positions function as they should, but it's a rough turn. And it works with no key at all. Also, the cruise control portion of the wiper control arm is missing, idk if that has anything to do with it. I plan on putting power to the motor tomorrow to check if that works and then go from there.... 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  15. Okay, is the breaker something I can find at an auto parts store or do I have to go hunting? 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  16. I believe I'm having the same issue, can I use a fuse instead of the circuit breaker? The only time I could see wipers drawing more power is when they're frozen...which doesn't happen in SoCal... 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  17. SOLVED! New tps fixed the no shift issue. On the way to my dads to pull my fuel rail, I stopped and got some injector cleaner and a new fuel filter. Filled the tank up and halfway to his house, the horses came running home. Might still pull the injectors for a thorough cleanin anyway. Bonus Fix: throughout all this, I had an extremely squeaky (what I thought was the) belt. All I had to do was put a new belt on then water pump, then idler pulley, then alternator, then put the old belt back on and the squeak went away! LOL Bonus problem!: after fixing all that, my blower motor decided to start cutting in and out on my test drive. @#$%in wayalife 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  18. Considering that crusier's wealth of knowledge has helped me solve every issue I've had....I would continue to take his word for it. ....just sayin [emoji854] 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  19. How to un@#$% PO's shoddy work? 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  20. Cool thanks 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  21. I know the ground strap is the one in the rear, what's in front of that? 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  22. Sounds exactly like the issue I'm having, I'll pull the fuel rail today. Does it matter which injector goes back into what port? Also, could there be any correlation between the replacement tps (to fix the shifting issue) and the injector plugging up? Or just a snowball effect coincidence? 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  23. Bump So today I, checked all my sensors and they all tested fine, as far as I could tell. Checked cts, crankps, mat, map, o2, tps, iac. I installed new plugs, cap, rotor, pulled and cleaned the throttle body. Checked all vac lines, tightened all manifold and valvecover bolts. I started diving into the injectors as I was running out of daylight. I pulled them one by one to see how the affected engine idle, all of them lowered the idle except for #5, no effect. So I tested voltage output from connector, 11.something. Checked resistance on the injector, ford d5b was about 14.5 ohms...both within spec as far as I know. Was planning on running injector cleaner through the system and then actually pulling the fuel rail and inspecting them more closely. Not sure if PO knew what they were doing when the installed the injectors and I'm no sure if those particular ones are compatible. It's always ran rich since I bought it but now it's running underpowered.... Opinions? 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  24. Well I hope that's not the case here. I'll check the air filter, I just put new plugs in the weekend before the rain, but I'll pull them tomorrow and have a look, I'll check for milky oil while I'm at it. Update: I just put the 2nd new tps on and had the same result. Adjusted voltages, stuck with hi idle (1500), drove it around the block. Turned it off and then turned it back on, rpms shot up to 2k then dropped back down to under 500 and stayed there....I'm at a loss. 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  25. If the output on the sweep were off wouldn't that cause erratic idle/acceleration? My idle, acceleration and rpms at speed are all steady, just underpowered...like not enough fuel or too much air. 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
