  1. Would the crank sensor affect idle and power? Or just start up effectiveness? 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  2. Cam or crank CPS, I haven't tested either. What was throwing me off is that I was not having running issues until I replaced the TPS, should I go back to oreileys and try a second one before I move onto other sensors? 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  3. I pulled, cleaned and dried all connectors from tranny to throttle body. The tps is all I have replaced so far, is it possible that it's bad but still reading correct voltages? 87' XJ Wagoneer I-6 AW4 NP242
  4. Also, I noticed it's been taking about 2 extra seconds of cranking to start up. Though I'm not sure if that happened before or after the issues I've been having. 87' 4x4 Sportruck
  5. About 2.5' of water. And no I didn't unplug the iac. I installed the new tps, adjusted voltages and fired her up. On the first turn of the key, the idle stuck at 3k. I shut it down, and turned the key again, still stuck at 3k. I turned her off, waited a few minutes and turned it back on, the idle went up to 3k and dropped alllllll the way back down to about 500 or less and stayed there. She sounds super lopey almost like it wants to die, but not quite. Idle and acceleration are smooth, just underpowered. 87' 4x4 Sportruck
  6. 87 wagoneer I-6 aw4 Last week it rained. I drove through some flooded intersections and everything was fine. PO put cutout vents in the hood so I was worried about water getting in, but I survived most of the day. After it had stopped raining and I was on dry asphalt and came to a stop light. After it turned green, my tranny decided it wanted to stay in first. I also was not able to shift manually through the gears. I pulled the inline tcu fuse and was able to shift manually and get home. Note: While all this was happening, the motor was running fine. After some diagnostics, I ended up replacing the tps and solving the shifting issue, however now the motor is running bogged down and underpowered. My tps voltages are within spec. I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced this before I start replacing sensors. Also, i was unable to find any vacuum leaks, by to my understanding, that would cause a high idle, not the very low one that I have. Advice? Thanks! 87' 4x4 Sportruck
  7. How do I do that? 87' 4x4 Sportruck
  8. It's an 87, same year as my MJ was, which coincidentally, I sold back to the guy I bought it from. And yea, the PO replaced the regular headlights with spot leds, not quite as bright as I'd like but they work for now. Stock high beams on bottom, he gave me he stock headlights too, but he plastidipped them to look like slanted eyes....freakin vape kids. 87' 4x4 Sportruck
  9. And found a Wagoneer. :) 87' 4x4 Sportruck
  10. And at the very tippy top, your oil cap, the bushing gets worn out over time and oil can dribble out. 87' 4x4 Sportruck
  11. Just be smart. Don't leave it anywhere, especially vegas and sleep in the @#$%er f you have to. I met a guy while in Alaska, he was from Canada and had his trail rig on a trailer, with custom locking tongue that he made himself, attached to his truck, in view of hotel security cameras. His tow rig was a 2014 2500. He was there for one night, in the morning, the whole shebang was gone: trail rig, tow truck, trailer. He doesn't know how they did it because they never found a trace. 87' 4x4 Sportruck
  12. They still do!! 87' 4x4 Sportruck
  13. Thanks! Will do. 87' 4x4 Sportruck
  14. Hey cruiser! I couldn't locate the ground in my driver side taillight assembly...is there another possible location for that particular one? 87' 4x4 Sportruck
  15. I don't imagine any of the sensors have ever been replaced. I'm trying not to replace too many components right now because I plan on a 4.0 swap. How would I test those sensors? I can pull and clean them this weekend. 87' 4x4 Sportruck
  16. Yes, as I was working through cruiser54s tips, I fixed the stutter but now it runs smoothly albeit a little rich, hence the issue I'm having at the bottom end And yes throttle position/control sensor 87' 4x4 Sportruck
  17. It's been the same tires as long as I've had it. The "soggy" feeling came after I adjusted the TCS in order to fix the stuttering idle. It began having an intermittent flooding issue. As I would be driving along, the power would cut in and out occasionally as if it was getting juuuuuuuuust too much fuel. I'd hit the pedal, flood the cylinders, burn off excess fuel and everything would return to normal for a bit. After some research, I adjusted the TCS which got rid of the idle stutter and the intermittent highways power loss but made the peda feel soggy, like it's still getting just a bit too much gas on the bottom end. Also, on start up and on the "soggy bottom" end of the power band, it smells a bit rich... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I have the 2.5, I already refreshed my grounds according to cruiser54s renix tips, however I couldn't find one behind the driver tail light assembly (will add pics later today). I cleaned the c101, didn't have time for the delete, will get around to it this weekend. So I should leave my TCS where it's at and look elsewhere? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. In preparation for a trip to Zion national Park, I'm finally around to addressing my stuttering idle and hard cold start. I have a 1987 4 x 4 base model. After removing, disassembling and inspectig my idle air control it would appear that it needs to be replaced as the motor is only working intermittently, unless anyone knows of any other solutions. I also opened up and cleaned out the throttlebody. After doing that and adjusting my throttle control sensor to have the output be 17% of the input, the truck is now running smoother but feels slightly under powered. The best way to describe it would it slightly stumbles through the beginning of each gear. Additional info: The actuation on the gas pedal cable itself feels nice and smooth, the issue feels more electronic in origin. Questions: Would resetting my ECM potentially help with this and if not should I adjust my idle control positive or negative and how much? Non Sequitur: Are there any interior component from a zj that will fit our mj's? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Non sequitur: Jeff, I'm working on a 87 2.5 base to 4.0 swap. Currently searching for the right donor xj (95? Or opinions appreciated) I had been looking at your swap write up which has been the best source of info I've found so far. However, the pictures broke thanks to photobucket, has there or will there be a remedy? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. K guys back to jeeps. I'm looking to swap to the 6, I have and 87. What year donor xj should I be looking for? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. This doesn't make sense. To reduce slop in the steering box, the over-center adjustment screw is turned in, not out. If you have slop when it's turned in as far as it will go, then it's time for a replacement steering box. I understand that, which is why I was puzzled that dialing it out removed some of the slop....anyone know much about the internals of it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I'm getting a steering wobble from 40-45 mph. All my linkage seems tight, bushings are a bit worn, but the wobble has about 2 inches of play. There's a lot of slop in my steering box. When I check it, it was all the way tighten, surprisingly, I backed it all the way out which adjusted most of the slop out but, still have about a 1/3turn of the wheel in slack...could that be the source of the wobble? 24. Cool thanks for the advice guys, I'll probably just try to remove from the donor and have a shop install, or just buy new glass failing that. Also, my truck is an 87, been looking for a donor xj...97+ will be compatible for parts? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. I can do the 9th, day trip to Gorman is always fun. I'm open to suggestions though! Ideas? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
