  1. I finally installed my @NickInTimeFilms REM unit. Went in pretty easy. Doesn't fit quite right, but I'm sure I can fix it. I decided to post only the readings that are/seemed out of spec. It's a big ask, however, if anyone will take the time to read through these and share their opinions, I would appreciate it. All readings are at idle: MAP 22.9 VAC 4.2 RPM 582-635 vO2 0.45-.055 EX RICH LP OPEN TPS 12 IGN 12/13 mS 9.6 IAC 1 (IAC is not listed in the manual, but is on the REM) LT 89 Many of these appear to be way off normal. I'm wondering if any of them are jointly affected by a single component.
  2. It's odd. I had replaced the factory clock. Mounting holes all line up. I thought maybe I could loosen it and shift it over, but there is no play there. I may go back and enlarge holes, with a hole stretcher of course, to get a little shifting room.
  3. It's pretty clean. Warming the plastic is a good idea.
  4. Dang! Is that easier then it sounds?
  5. Yeah, right after I posted I went back out used that same hole. I decided to mount it inside. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit tight. It's too far left and overlaps the screen a bit and I can't set the clock. Looks like a I'll need to modify the dash a bit. BTW, how the hell do you get the dash cover off? I've cracked mine. It will break in half next time I try.
  6. @89 MJ@Pete M@ghetdjc320 Thanks guys. I have an REM that I'm installing today. However, I'm not finding an easy path from the engine bay to the cab interior.
  7. I have a hard time finding a good mechanic to work on my 88 with reliable results. I enjoy doing what I can myself. Time is the issue. I've been through three garage monkeys. Seems like they just don't know how to work on the Renix error, I mean ERA, jeeps. So, can an old-@$$ MJ get un-Renixed to help future repairs be done more reliably, or do I have a better chance of finding Sasquatch?
  8. I've had it 7 years and have not greased it. Not bragging. Just completely forgot vehicles this age still need that service. I have a borrowed a grease gun from a friend. Any tips on procedure are appreciated. Also, how many tubes will I need?
  9. Appreciate to detailed reply. I've never done the “rock the steering wheel back and forth” test. Looks like I'll be getting my hands really dirty.
  10. Thanks ,buddy. Yeah, my steering box is leaks. I have a feeling it's going to be a major overhaul of the front end. Lucky me.
  11. Oh yeah. @89 MJ and @ratrapp, is it generally safe to say the components don't need to be replaced, just serviced? Removed, cleaned, new bushings, tightened, etc?
  12. Okay. Any grease gun recommendations? Any of the Harbor Freight ones any good? Or any other budget brand that's worth it?
  13. I was thinking that I had the track bar replaced, but now I'm thinking all they did was tighten it up. From your signature, it looks like you done a good amount of modification to your 88. Is there an "order of work" when it comes to front end redo/replace? In other words, a step 1, step 2 and so on?
  14. I know. I'm in a cycle of perpetual work at the moment. Keeping my fingers crossed that my MJ will keep running until I can dedicate some time to it.
  15. Okay folks. I'm going to be a lazy slob and ask you fine folks to look at these images and point out anything that looks suspect. I would say a bushing kit may be in order.
  16. It's been doing this wobble-jump-shimmy thing for a little while now. I had put it on my Get-Round-To-It list. However, I recently hit a small bump around 45 and after hitting the bump it kept on flopping around for several seconds afterwards. I thought the front end was going to eject itself! Tires are new, track bar is new, shocks were changed maybe 8 years ago. Before I got new tires I would experience a serious shimmy above 55 mph. That quit after tires were replaced. I was thinking the old tires were just shot and that was some of the issue. Clearly not. Any suggestions as to what I should look at first?
  17. Ooops! Found it! Barely.
  18. Kinda cool, though. I've been wondering what a Manche would look like with round headlights. Like the mirrors too.
  19. WOW! Your interior is looks amazing! I'm now embarrassed at how bad mine looks.
  20. So, my truck has no sticker or emblem. Any way to find out the original dealer?
  21. It was under load as well. Since it has warmed up a bit, it's been starting fine. Does idle a little rough though. As far as Cruiser's tips, what I have found is that these trucks are essentially hobbies. If you don't like getting your hands dirty, or if you don't have the time or resources, you may experience Comanche Derangement Syndrome or "CDS". I have one foot in the "don't have time or resources" group. So, yeah, I have a little "CDS" going on!
  22. Yeah, battery tested ok. It's a Traveller brand. It's rated well, for what it's worth. Certainly, there is something that is not behaving correctly. Started today without issue. The only thing that has been consistent is a crank/no start when it's well below freezing. Also, I've done many of Crusier's ground checks and refurbishing. But not all.
  23. Ahh. I was born and raised in Raleigh. Worked in Durham, Hillsborough and Mebane. Moved to Deep Gap in 2012.
  24. It's sluggish when so cold. So I figured I would top it off, so to speak.
