REM installed and seeking translations
NC Tom replied to NC Tom's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well, @rokinn , you were correct. The hose connecting to the MAP was sloppy and leaking. Crusier54 said it was "prone to fail". I fixed that, but must have others as my heat still blows only at the Defroster. One down, infinite to go! VAC reading 17 at idle. -
I'm joking. Although, I'm sure there are people out there just looking for a reason to protest something.

In light of all the recent wokeness, cancel culture, etc. I've been wondering if a Jeep Comanche painted red is racist? @Pete M??? Is a black Comanche ok? I'm sure a white Comanche would be problematic. Mine was red and is now black. What does that mean? I'm troubled.

The number of Comanches I see in Watauga Co., NC? Z E R O !!!!!!!

Well, that would seem simple enough. @fiatslug87 Feels the new O2 sensors are not reliable. Any suggestions? NAPA? -

Ok. However, I think these items are ok. My last check of the FP was about +/- 30. Haven't noticed any fuel under the hood. -

No sure I have an O2. Have to check. I know my CAT has been removed. I live in county where that stuff isn't checked. -

I have it. It's the only way I knew I had some out of spec shenanigans going on. -

I do have aftermarket injectors. I've been thinking about putting the stock back in because it seems like I have more issues with the non-stock. -

Yes, heat us defrost only. I'll look into it. Any other details? -
I finally installed my @NickInTimeFilms REM unit. Went in pretty easy. Doesn't fit quite right, but I'm sure I can fix it. I decided to post only the readings that are/seemed out of spec. It's a big ask, however, if anyone will take the time to read through these and share their opinions, I would appreciate it. All readings are at idle: MAP 22.9 VAC 4.2 RPM 582-635 vO2 0.45-.055 EX RICH LP OPEN TPS 12 IGN 12/13 mS 9.6 IAC 1 (IAC is not listed in the manual, but is on the REM) LT 89 Many of these appear to be way off normal. I'm wondering if any of them are jointly affected by a single component.

Make a Comanche more garage friendly?
NC Tom replied to NC Tom's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It's odd. I had replaced the factory clock. Mounting holes all line up. I thought maybe I could loosen it and shift it over, but there is no play there. I may go back and enlarge holes, with a hole stretcher of course, to get a little shifting room. -

It's pretty clean. Warming the plastic is a good idea. -

Yeah, right after I posted I went back out used that same hole. I decided to mount it inside. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit tight. It's too far left and overlaps the screen a bit and I can't set the clock. Looks like a I'll need to modify the dash a bit. BTW, how the hell do you get the dash cover off? I've cracked mine. It will break in half next time I try. -

@89 MJ@Pete M@ghetdjc320 Thanks guys. I have an REM that I'm installing today. However, I'm not finding an easy path from the engine bay to the cab interior. -
I have a hard time finding a good mechanic to work on my 88 with reliable results. I enjoy doing what I can myself. Time is the issue. I've been through three garage monkeys. Seems like they just don't know how to work on the Renix error, I mean ERA, jeeps. So, can an old-@$$ MJ get un-Renixed to help future repairs be done more reliably, or do I have a better chance of finding Sasquatch?

OUCH! -
I've had it 7 years and have not greased it. Not bragging. Just completely forgot vehicles this age still need that service. I have a borrowed a grease gun from a friend. Any tips on procedure are appreciated. Also, how many tubes will I need?
-
Appreciate to detailed reply. I've never done the “rock the steering wheel back and forth” test. Looks like I'll be getting my hands really dirty.
-
Thanks ,buddy. Yeah, my steering box is leaks. I have a feeling it's going to be a major overhaul of the front end. Lucky me.
-
Oh yeah. @89 MJ and @ratrapp, is it generally safe to say the components don't need to be replaced, just serviced? Removed, cleaned, new bushings, tightened, etc?
-
Okay. Any grease gun recommendations? Any of the Harbor Freight ones any good? Or any other budget brand that's worth it?
