1986 Comanche problems
AMC86Kid replied to Aurelio corso's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If it’s a 86 it should be like mine then his transfer case should be a 207 and he should have a vacuum controlled front shift actuator on his front axle shifting it on and off he might be lucky and his hand held 4WD shifter might be loose under the truck and not shifting the transfer case at all but who knows I would jack the truck up and see what it does when you shift it does the front axle even spin ? -

ok well i managed to take the t-case apart and the inside looks pretty good dirty but the parts don't look all chewed up one thing that looked interesting was when i inspected this piece i noticed it was blue and not offset white like all the other pieces does this mean that someone else had worked on it in the past ?? -

Yes I do agree with J.E.E.P I'm starting with the transfer case first then decide if I’m gonna pay a shop to do the tranny right now now I have all the bolts out the T-case but the security 12 point 10mm one that’s on it, I will have to go buy a socket for it tomorrow -

Yeah I shopped around and shops want around 800 for the tranny and 250 for the T-case I'm gonna take apart the T-case and see if I can just reseal it back together with RTV so it don’t leak no more any suggestions on what type of RTV to use or will just about any type work? -

So they sell the rebuild kit for the tranny on RockAuto but does anyone know where I can get new gaskets for the 207 transfer case ? -
I have the 3 speed A904 and the 207 t-case has anyone ever rebuilt these at home with a rebuild kit ?
-
Ok I will shop around and see if there’s a good place to get it rebuilt I have started a new post about the tranny and TC here:
-
Let’s say I have a 207 transfer case is it even worth rebuilding ?
-
Sounds easy I will clean off all the grease so that I can actually see how to remove and read it thanks
-
Ok I got the tranny and the transfer case out the filler neck for the tranny where you check the fluid level really gets in the way, I was wondering if there’s a way to remove it ? Also how do I find out what transfer case I have ?
-
Yes I have those two things removed I just hope I can support it’s weight from the oil pan sitting on wood and that I disconnect and shifters or electrical connectors so the don’t break as it drops
-
Ok so I unbolted it from the rear axle now I just pull and slide it out of the transfer case, sounds easy now I have to unbolt the tranny from the front, do I start with the bolts on the flex plate / starting wheel ?

3-speed A904 automatic https://ibb.co/5MHPvHn
