  1. Jason You nailed it ! It was the transmission fuse. When I found I didn't have the back lights two things came to mind one was a fuse and the other was the NSS. In checking the owners manual it list the turn signals and backup fuse I was fixed on the back lights so in checking the 20fuse in the middle the panel I found it good. I move on to NSS having take a couple them apart in my life time I pulled it clean it up which I had done sometime last year but of course that wasn't the problem. The wire diagrams I had showed different colors than what I traced out for example orange was the hot going to back and black was the return line to ground at the cab. The rear light housing had a small ground wire coming off the each shield of the backup lights going straight to the frame. I guess it was just an extra ground wire that came with the light assembly and manufacture just screw it to ground anyway. So both of you were right. So I was thinking since I have an extra NSS, I was going diagram it out and maybe have it posted here somewhere in case someone needed to know what wires go to each contacts and what contacts were used for like which ones were used for the backup or park and neutral starting position. Thanks again Mike
  2. Thanks guys I was looking for a backup light fuse I'll look for the transmission one. If 12v is being provided to NSS than that might be the problem is although engine starts. It got dark out I'll look at the NSS connector tomorrow for 12v there. Thanks Mike
  3. I have no back up lights on my 87 Jeep Comanche. There were working and I decided to check everything before going in for an inspection and surprise! I have already checked the NSS transmission switch and clean it. What really need is the pin out of NSS so I can follow it to rear. Also is the NSS providing a ground to backup lights or is providing the 12v and lights are chassis grounded? I've located the connector in back of the cab that connects the signal and brake lights and I'm sure it connects the backup lights also. Can someone provide me with color code of the wire to rear of the truck. Thanks Mike
  4. Well thank you will give it try hope i make them come out as good as yours!
  5. Boy oh Boy those look really good. Could tell us what materials you used to make these look that. I saw your comment about using harsh cleaner and I want to avoid that. Thanks Mike
  6. I found that it goes to the light switch and it is Stokermjcomanch said it was, a pair for the license plate if the stock bumper isn't used
  7. After pulling the rear bumper off I discovered an unused pair of wires. I have the trailer hitch wiring, so trying to figure out what these were for and where the other end is? Thanks Mike

    Rear Bumper Caps

Looking for a set of rear bumper caps in good condition for the original rear bumper on my 87 Comanche. I just repaired and repainted the bumper using truck bed liner for the final coat of paint on it. Mike
  9. Boy those lights look like the came off the shelf at the dealership! So the pad you use is like the kitchen scrub pad or did I miss something? Also the DupliColor clear is that something at the parts store? Thanks Mike
  10. Good Morning I am looking for an original AM/FM radio with a digital dial rather than the analog dial to put back in my 87 MJ Comanche. I may need the plug also as someone put a more modern stereo radio in its place and I haven't look to see if the plug was cut off. Thanks Mike
  11. So today I receive my 89 ECU (428) after an agonizing 2 hours of trying to remove the ECU from my 87 MJ I was able to unplug and plug in the new one and it worked. I took it for a quick trip around the block and its shifts perfectly and the idle seems a little better. For those that maybe thinking about doing this a couple of pointers; one if are going to a yard to get an ECU make sure the dash is apart to get at those bolts. Cruiser the bolts holding the ECU on my bracket were not 10mm mine were 3/8 and they were cap bolts and the head was very shallow. This made it very difficult to keep the wrench on the bolt. After removing the bolts the sticker on my ECU says its an 87 model so it was an original. I'm going to replace the bolts with something much easier to install and I'm not going to put the top one in! Also take the lower trim panel off it will it much easier to reach and remove the three bolts holding the ECU to the bracket. Other than having some choice words about where they install the ECU and sore joints from trying get under the dash it wasn't that back to swap it out. Now to see if really see if the swap really pays off. I do have a spare now so that's good thing. Thanks Cruiser for you time and tips on this project. Mike
  12. I was looking on line as I thinking it might better to get a refurbished ECU I see several companies offering last digits 428 & 429. But what I don't see is a question related to the type Transmission doesn't it matter what type transmission you have when comes to ECU? My MJ is an automatic so I think I should be looking for an ECU for an XJ with automatic transmission correct? or that doesn't matter? Thanks again Mike
  13. Thanks to both of you. No worries on the age I grew up with DOS and green monitors! I watched the video good info on that now I know what numbers to look for.  I did replace the injectors with the 5 pt type and that made a big difference. Now with this swap I hope I can get a smoother idle. My 86 Cherokee that had years ago had a smooth idle until the 02 sensor when out replaced it and everything was fine. I've replace the Comanche one but its not as smooth as I'd like it to be.

  14. Thanks for the reply. If I get the ECU from 89/90 you said to reprogram it? not sure how this is done?
  15. I have an 87 4.0 automatic MJ and I saw a discussion on the ECU which made me think about a replacement ECU from a later year. I am wondering if a newer ECU would have some changes that would help the engine run better at idle for example and maybe there were some other changes that were done to later models that I would befit from. I'd like to hear of anyone that make an ECU swap and what you experiences were. Thanks in advance Mike
  16. Nice explanation of project. couple questions, I have an 87 MJ I am trying to smooth out the Idle. I've replaced the injectors and readjusted the TPS, replaced the 02 sensor and these seem to help quite a bit but there is still a bit up and down idle. I've clean all the grounds etc. I was wondering about the MAP sensor mod you did, mine is working correctly but what does the mod do? Thanks Mike
  17. I'm converting my 87 Comanche cooling system and getting ride of the Heater valve. I have all the parts now to do this. Before I start the conversion I wanted to put a drain valve in the heater hose mostly to get rid of the air. I saw this being done a while back but don't remember if the inline valve was in the top heater hose or the lower hear hose. If someone could help me. Thanks Mike
  18. I am going to do away with the vacuum heater valve and run hoses directly from the thermostat and pump directly to the heater core. I'm also doing away with plastic water bottle and put the inline radiator filler and cap adapter in upper radiator hose. So I've have a simple question what is the heater hose sizes for the upper and lower heater pipes and what is the size at the other end of those hoses that go to the water pump and thermostat ports? I wanted to get everything together before ripping the current system apart. I've look in many places but I guess I haven't looked for the sizes in right place. One place I looked said they used a 97 Cherokee heater hoses as a direct fit, has anyone used this approach yet? Thanks for your help in advance Mike
  19. Do you still have the panels where the side light markers fit in. So them here I need the drivers side but I take both.

  20. I've read the threads on converting the Renix closed cooling system to open cooling system. So I have an 87 MJ with the factory closed cooling system. The person before me put in a brand new radiator in it but left all the other plumping in it, the heater valve the plastic pressure bottle etc. So I'm thinking about using an inline Radiator Hose Fill neck in the top radiator hose. So by doing this I would be saving the cost of a new radiator which I don't need if this Hose Fill neck works as described. So my question is there any negative to putting an the inline Hose Fill neck in? Does anyone have any advise on which one of these Hose Fill Necks work best? I see a'$19.00 and $24.00,$50.00 and $75.00 one advertised by JEG & Moroso. Thanks in advance for any help on this Mike
  21. I was just looking around to see what folks had done to their Comanche to add a Snowplow. I'm curious about plow lights what seems to work well for you? I have a 91 Wrangler which I've been plowing snow with for many years. I bought the Plow setup (Meyers 7.5) brand new and it came with a light package. They're okay but I'm wondering if what works best. I after purchasing the plow frame I modified it to allow the same plow I use on the Wrangler to work on Comanche. I'm in the process of overhauling a Meyers Pump for the Comanche waiting on some seals to come in. Only thing left is to get the lights and a plow controller. For now I'm going to use the same touch controller used in the Wrangler and swap back & fourth between vehicles. I'll post some pictures when I'm done.
  22. Anybody know if there is Tonneau cover that would fit my short bed Mj? Or something comparable Thanks Mike
  23. I am looking at your picture of the Jeep Comanche with the Snow Plow.  I'm  going to do the same with my MJ.  I bought the frame and lift for the MJ for Stork.  Do you any close pictures you could send me of the frame brackets as to how their installed.  I have the factory brackets also for the MJ just wanted to see how they are installed.  always helps to see pictures of a successfully install!

    thanks

    Mike

  24. Yes I would be interested if it is for MJ please let me know thanks
