steering column wiring
wheelsaz08 replied to wheelsaz08's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
ive found a few diagrams that slightly cleared the mud, but nothing complete yet. i think ive got the ignition portion figured out but the turn signals are where I'm having trouble. a pinout of each connector on the column would be a godsend lol -
does anyone have details or a pinout of the plugs on an 89 steering column? and also a 96? ive already swapped in an entire 96 drive train, along with engine and interior harnesses, but id like to retain the original steering column vs cutting the firewall to accommodate the the newer column. so in short id like to splice the 96 harness to the 89 column another reason for this is id rather just have one key than two...

went on vacation for the 4th, blew the tranny up in our durango, and we're moving this month so progress will likely be slow... but here's how it sits now looks like a tractor lol gonna just sandwich the rear mounts on for now so i can roll it onto a trailer to move it -

no pics cause my phone is completely broken... but i got the fuel system figured out. simple solution really, gonna run the xj tank in the bed! well I'm pulling the bed off to do some repairs, but I'm planning out a way to mount the xj tank behind the cab and eventually when i put the bed back on it will reside in there. also got the rear dana 60 pulled from the xj, cut off the leaf and shock miunts, mj axles are ready to come out, still waiting on a new bracket from ballistic so i can finish tacking up the front axle then roll it under the mj and measure for links, patch up the floor/tunnel, finish up interior wiring... hoping it will start coming together quickly now -

lookin good, love the color -
getting ready to pick up a set of seats to replace the el cheapo pep boys plastic crap that came in my truck. i already have crow 4 point harnesses and plan to ad a sub belt as well. my budget isnt going to allow for fancy reclining seats, so I'm shooting for fixed backs, hoping to come in under $600ish. as for mounting it will all be custom I'm looking for some opinions as I'm undecided on which brand. I'm torn between the: mastercraft original prp premier OR the fixed daily driver corbeau baja ultra. i like these seats because they all have dual slots in the headrest, and really like how much color customization you can do with the prp's... anyone run any of these?

the angle of the pic is a lil deceiving but it does clear and the top bolt hole is actually just above the tie rod. ill get a better picture of it. i don't have 9/16 bolts yet but i mocked it up with a 1/2" bolt and a nylock nut and theres plenty of room. as for the drivers side, once i get my mounts welded on I'm going to have my buddy weld the tube to the center section with nickel rod. i don't trust myself welding to cast just yet. i tried not to cut the tube up to bad but the old mounts didnt allow the best access to remove them lol -

got a lil more done yesterday, even though it was 119*!!! since the driver side tube is so short, decided I'm going to cut off some of the casing so ill have room for my bracket. didnt finish cutting it yet but you get the idea repositioned track bar mount went to install the tcase and the floor patch the PO put in was in the way.i was really hoping to address the floor AFTER i had it up and running but now plans have changed ratchet strap parking brake -

worked on front axle some tonight. welded up the tie rod, tacked up the passenger side mount, 3 link mount, and track bar mount then realized my track bar mount is to far forward and contacted the tie rod at almost full lock so rolled it back to clear but forgot to snap a pic.. I'm going to box the 3 link mount to the truss and add bracing to the track bar mount as well sorry for the crappy quality my phones on its last leg -

thanks guys! good point on the zj valve. i think thats what i meant to type, but who knows. it was a graveyard shift lol the load sensing valve was removed by the previous owner. ended up spending the weekend working on my brothers retatrded low rx7, so the mj didnt get any attention yet other than my daughter hangin out in the bed while we built a new exhaust for my bros car reallllly need to clean up the crappy paint on the tailgate from the previous owner -

thought id throw up a couple more pics and small update. havent done much but work on cruisers tips (all done but the cps stuff) tested my cps and its bad, only 2V ac. gonna grab one this weekend. first up is the brake booster/master cylinder. nothing special nor is it pretty. plans are to either grab an xj prop valve or an adjustable one. pressure washed the mj at work. still need to grab a new driver corner lense started working on my 8.8 the PO gave me with the truck. stripped it down some, pulled the cover only to find its a non LSD :fs2: oh well looks like ill be throwing a locker in! it does have 4.10s so ill be regearing the front when the time comes. also found a set of calipers for $30 I'm picking up this weekend future plans: xj or manual prop valve wj knuckles and brakes 1 ton steering 8.8 soa swap long arms (unsure on which brand/style still) new lift coils up front to match what i gain from the soa new shocks, mist likely bilsteins (currently have rubicons that came with the xj lift) 33s or MAYBE 35s?? source a 4wd ax15 np242 from my xj for now cause i already have it but plan on a flipped dana 300 later on and after i pull the motor out of the xj i plan to SLOWLY but sure build a stroker -
love your truck! i've got many of the same/similar plans in store for my project as well

oh not sure how, but i forgot to add that the brake booster on the truck was actually for a 94 era xj with abs... the MC quit on me the other day as i went to stop in front of the house. the following day i went to the scrap yard and picked up a ACTUAL 99 grand cherokee double diaphram booster and master for $60! installed it wow what a difference! only complaint is when the engine is off the pedal is good and firm but with the engine running, the pedal is squishy and travels alot farther than with it off. i will investigate further
