Getting a bit over whelmed, lots of parts and pieces to prep, dye, paint, recover and install for the interior. Then there’s the stuff under the hood. Have to remind myself slow and steady!
-
Nope, no jack or any of the assorted pieces to go with. No worries as I will need a taller jack anyway. Probably go with a high lift and mount it under the bed rail or against the front of the bed. Would still like to find a spare tire key/rod.
-
Yeah I thought that was pretty cool also. Now I just need to find the bar/key that operates the mechanism.
-
So I did find the 4.0 info in the service manual (277).

Did a little cleaning on the under carriage today. Knocked off probably close to 30 years of dirt and old paint. Also confirmed that the lift on it is a Trailmaster 4.5” ish see all that orange...lol. Also put the new shoes on. 32x11.50x15s with American Racing AR23’s.

My statement was made on a quick look through the table of contents. I’ll dig into it further.

Yes the other engines are covered.

Worked on the 87 a little this morning. Put in a little padding for the floor and cab back, restored the taillights and UPS showed up with the new shoes. Thais are motivation to get busy and get this thing on the road.

Today’s progress. Started stripping some of the goodies from the 86 for the 87. Ordered wheels/tires for the 87. American racing AR23 and Khumo Road Venture MT51s 32x11.50x15. I also promised a pic of the bucket seats. They are still pretty wet but they cleaned up really well. Only one small tear I. The vinyl at the top of the wing. Almost un-noticeable. All the interior floor prep is done in the 87. Mocked up the full center console and mounted the brackets. Also discovered the console has the channel and vent adapter for heat/ac to the rear of the cab. Took a little time to give the Roadmaster some attention and put on the new ultimate seat.

Okay going to need some expert help on sorting out all the vacuum lines. I am pretty good on the manifold/air cleaner side of the engine. Problems on the distributor side. Specifically I believe the lines for the heater control valve and those that my or may not be part of the 4x4 actuation. Sorry no pics right now got dark on me and I am working on the truck in the open (no shop yet).

Thanks for the info!

I am in need to two header (86-92) header panels and one grill. Working on two trucks and will be keeping them with old style front ends.

Nope after being a USCG Boatswain Mate for a little over half my 26+ years in the CG I learned you can’t go wrong with making things watertight! I am afraid your own your own. After pulling the seats from the 86 XLS I think I am going to have to do at least the drivers side near the front seat mount since the bolt pulled completely out when I took out the seat. I’ll get some pics of the seats tomorrow after they have dried out from the washing cleaning.

Floor pans done (sealed, all exposed metal shot with rust converter and sealer) then all spayed with rattle can bedliner. Pics for @MiNi Beast Finished product pics are not great due to having the truck covered with tarp in prep for rain that’s coming tonight and tomorrow ugh....

Disappointed apparently the 87 4.0 Renix isn’t covered in either of these reproduction publications. Either that or I am blind.
-
Got them off Rock Auto. There were a little cheaper than the ones I’ve seen on eBay.
-
These should come in a lot more handy than the Haines I used while doing my 89 several years ago.

I may try to get it out tomorrow and laminate what I can salvage.
-
Floor pans and seat mounting bolts done. No photos: 1. I am not a welder, 2. Most of you have seen this done before. Will get updated picks when I get it all sealed up and floor painted. this is something I hope to never have to do again, what a royal pain in the a$$.

CGCWO replied to Pete M's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I went for it one on my 86 is cracked pretty badly. -
I haven’t looked for it yet. I was lucky and found the build sheets on the other two. The one for the 87 is unreadable and stuck to the underside of the bench seat.
-
Because I am building the 87 as a DD and the 86 has a long way to go to get it mechanically sound. Not sure about the 3.4 swap that the previous owner started. Also a SWB truck should have buckets a LWB is more suited to a bench in my opinion. All in all it’s just my preference for my two builds.
