  1. Thanks jbain, but I haven't gotten a response from the dash at all yet. I've got to get to all these ground refresh jobs...pretty sure that's gonna be the culprit. Fingers crossed!
  2. Also just remembered that the previous owner had changed out the ignition key on the column (lost key I suppose) could he have missed something there that would affect the no-start?
  3. Did get a little time on the truck yesterday. I've got fire from the coil but no spark at the plug. So unplugged CPS for 5 minutes then reconnected it. Still no start. Got the Echlin CPS from Napa and installed it. What a freakin job that is! I found that I could reach the bolts with my extensions and swivel socket rather easily to remove them. The hard part was repositioning the new CPS from above. So I got a piece of coat hanger type wire and inserted the end of it into one of the holes on the CPS from the backside of it. That made it much easier to lower it into position from above. Then I taped the coat hanger in place while I went underneath to install the bolts. Also inserted the bolt into the socket and put one wrap of electrical tape around it and it's washer and the socket to secure it while trying to thread it up to the hole and get it started. Climb back out and connect the plug. Hit the key and....more chuggity, chuggity, no start! Did a little "why me" dance, cussed, then prayed, then started pokin around. Found a bit of corrosion in my fuse panel. Even though my floor boards look great I guess there has been some moisture on the panel. Could there be my problem? Any ideas?
  4. Okay time to quit wondering and start Cruisers Tips!
  5. I also noticed the cluster is not energized. But it is illuminated. Radio energized also. Headlamps energized also.
  6. Finally installed new fuel tank, fuel sending unit, fuel filter, injectors, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, new battery, and battery cables. Twisted the key and chuggity, chuggity, chuggity...nothing. Checked out all installs and try again, nothing. Yes I put fuel in it. Sending unit is audible and rail is pressurizing. Can I get a run down of possible no start fault culprits? It's been along time since I did any mechanicing.
  7. Man that is great info! I have just installed these same injectors durring a fuel system overhaul and am not so patiently waitng to get the rest of my parts installed and finally get to hear my new to me Chief make some noise!

  9. This is great kindlin for my fire everyone! Haven't been up to the shop for days and it's killing me. Left to ponder all the possibilities my wrench finger is gettin itchy... Same thread additional question: If the renix 4.0 currently in the MJ turns out to be solid enough to rely on(haven't even cranked it yet) am I off base from what I think I have read that the '91 4x4 Cherokee AW4 and the TC its married to, would bolt right in to replace the BA10/ np231 in the MJ?
  10. Ah HAH HAH HAH [point] ]point]! I actually have no idea but you opened the door...
  11. Forum member here. I have 2, installing one and then I can let the other go. Just making sure all is well with the replacement first. Ill PM ya when I'm ready to sell the remaining unit.
  12. Thanks metrictonner! yep I pulled the fuel filter while dropping the tank; poured out some of the gravy! and marked that down on the "to get" list. The return line nipple? is that on the sending unit inside the tank or are we talking bout the two relief valves nippled into the top of the tank?
  13. Just found out my cousin has a '91 cherokee 4x4 4.0 HO Aw4 and i think dana 44, havent gotten the mileage yet but was running a year ago(inherited then parked) Question: Would it be worth it to swap the engine/drive train and all other goodies into my '88 mj 4x4 4.0 Ba10? What all would swap and make since to swap? Oh yeah and its free! Well almost free, gotta take the son deer hunting! where is the down side?! I would love the idea of having an automatic. He!! i havent even gotten the MJ started up as is yet! Prolly gonna continue with that for now and see what yall think about the swap option.
  14. Okay been gathering up a few parts: New Fuel tank from 1AAuto 2 in 1 from a member here! fuel sending units!! recieved my "746"s from Programbo and got them in and while replacing injectors i was able to clean the fuel rail and lines! next on the list along with next purchases: NGK copper plugs, wires, cap and rotor, wix oil filter, inline fuel filter, sending unit filter and new ground and hot battery leads. I can not wait to hear this kitten purrrr.
  15. Got some parts in and a few installed. So movin to my build thread: http://comancheclub.com/topic/44165-new-texas-member-with-88-chief-just-acquired/ Thanks yall for your input.
  16. Ok my Vin# 1JTML63S7JT-028xxx When I was parts searching 1AAuto, Oreilly auto etc. for distributor cap for 88 MJ 4.0, search returns part: Replaces 1988 Jeep Comanche Distributor Cap For L6 4.0L (8th Vin Digit M) Huh?
  17. My 88 Chief has an "S" as the 8th digit and when I'm searching for parts looks like the parts I'm after suggest it should be an "M". Like the cap and rotor. Should I find parts specific to that digit code? Isn't "S" for a later year model 91-92? I'm a bit confused...
  18. Thanks MJ junkie haven't figured out the pic posting from my iPad!
  19. Ordered a sending unit from a member here! Hallelujah!
  20. Well I'm going to hate to see you let go of the '88 as I am kinda using your thread as a guide! As I start the "get her Rollin process"
  21. Visiting my Mom and hear a roar outside. Then a knock on the door. It's a neighbor and he says "Ya'll come look" : Seems he just got his '61 runnin!
  22. on the topside, if I pull the fuel rail, is there a way to clean it or purge it and the fuel lines in preparation for new tank, sender and fresh fuel?
  23. Okay so Dan at Tri-Star the fuel sending unit guy quoted $185 to refurb the sending unit. Said he was in the middle of another 88 MJ unit as we spoke. Price doesn't include a pump. So I need a Bosch I gather? The tank is $100. So what else do I need to consider replacing to get some fresh quality fuel burnin in this project. Injectors? Plugs? Cap, rotor, wires? Also what is the part that is attached to the topside of the tank? Is it something that needs replacing? Looks like it maybe a vacuum line. Yes, I'm in the middle of a project w/o manuals and a small pile of skills!
  24. @Spectormj we hung out a little, did some spelunking, just a casual middle earth thing...
