When doing the 4.0 swap in a 1986 is it the driver side motor mount bracket that need to be changed or the passenger side ?
-
Sounds like goo advice, I'm going to order a 1993 fly wheel, clutch kit, and maybe some different pilot bearings
-
So as long as I get a 1993 Cherokee flywheel and pilot bearing I will be able to use the transmission
-
I'm using a 93 Cherokee for the computer and wiring
-
the guy is thinking it around a 93 ax15, will this still work with the 93 grandcherokee engine
-
Internal slave not external
-
I have a guy wanting to trade me a ax15 for my 4.0 swap. I'm using a 1993 zj engine but he said he has the fly wheel for the transmission and its external slave, will this work with my engine ?

I have heard from alot of people the dana 30 is fine as long as your not rock bouncing; it would just be nice to have built dana 44s front and rear

Ready to clean and paint the engine bay and start adding in the new wiring harness

I'm hoping tho swap is worth it, that little 2.5 couldn't handle anymore abuse
-
So as along as I have a complete engine and dash everything should plug right in

So I went to the junkyard today and pulled parts from a 1993 Cherokee to use on my 86 Comanche, the engine I'm getting is from a 1994 grand Cherokee. When I went to pull the dash and engine harness from the Cherokee and noticed that where the engine harness connects to the fuse panel in the bay was broken and had wires cut, I decided to just go ahead and take it all and take the dash harness My question is since I'm getting the harness and computer from the ZJ than that be used instead of the broken xj harness? Or would it be easier to cut off the connectors to the fuse box and solder the wires back together

I'm doing this same swap right now using a engine from a 1994 grand Cherokee and parts from a 1993 Cherokee will the motors mounts still bolt up? -
Today I spent a couple hours take the hole front of the jeep off and taking as much as possible off the engine to make it easier to get it out, tomorrow I'm going to the junk yard to get the engine harness and the dash harness along with motor mounts and a radiator, I have heard that I also need to get a new hood latch is this true?

That would be nice to find

Another question is will a transmission from a 1993 Cherokee work with a 1994 grand Cherokee motor

This week marts the start of the engine swap on my 1986 MJ. Right now the jeep has a 2.5 in it with a ax4 transmission and a np231 transfer case. The old 4 banger is at its end with a rod knock and complete loss of power. Right now the jeep has 36 in super swampers with stock gearing a stock axles. I bough it last summer and have slowly found the good and bad Good : Has spring over conversion done with pucks and new coils up front. Has a rustys track bar and brace combo. There is almost no rust minus 2 small hols in the floor pan and the passenger tail light area. My plan is to start at the front with the engine and drive train and move my way to the back then to the inside. 1st. 1994 4.0 out of a grand cherokee and parts from a 1993 cherokee 2nd. built dana 44 axles ( its not a rock crawler so i don't think dana 60s a needed ) 3rd. short bed conversion. right now its a long bed so i would like to buy a short bed a cut the long bed to the shackles for a better departure angle 4th. change from red to a olive green along with rust repairs 5th. and this point i will and new bumpers and a winch and any other work i missed on the outside I don't want this to be a straight mud truck or rock crawler. I want to to be a reliable off road truck that i can go out and adventure in but not have to trailer it to trails. I am open to suggestions and advice but please be respectful, there are many different ways to do things and its up to the owner to decide how to do it . I will post pictures as soon as i have made some progress

I already know about the fire wall. What i was planning on doing is since i have the dash out already is go to the junk yard and get a entire harness from a 93 cherokee and swap the entire harness into the MJ and just splice it into the lights. I just don't know if a 93 harness will have the same connectors under the dash as a 86 harness. i do have a haynes book so i guess it wouldnt be that hard to lay the diagrams next to each other to see what i need to splice into. The engine I'm getting is a 4.0 out of a 1994 grand cherokee and the guy is giving me everything on it, AC, cruise control and if i want the computer and harness. my list for the junk yard from the 1993 cherokee is engine harness dash harness computer maybe the transmission ( i already have a NP231 t case) maybe the transmission cross member if mine won't work motor mounts radiator radiator cross memember

In the next few weeks I will be starting a 4.0 swap using a engine out of a 1994 grand Cherokee and was planning in raiding a 1993 Cherokee at the junk yard for parts, I already have the dash completely out of the 1986 Comanche to fix some wiring problems. So my questions are what I need to take from the Cherokee at the junk yard to swap into my Comanche

1986 2.5 cly ok so i posted the other day about having a random shut off and a dead battery and i thought i fixed the problem by replacing the alternator cables. But today the same thing happened again. on the meter it showed the alternator putting out 12 volts and as i reved the engine it started to drop slowly down to 9 volts. i had the it tested and it tested fine since it is new. can anyone post a picture of a 86 2.5 so i can see if all the wires are hooked up correctly?
