  1. should I get OEM gaskets or Felpro?
  2. thank you! I decided on the 3.4!
  3. okay thank you! Also do you think a full time 4wd TC would be a good upgrade?
  4. yep, I have that then! I replaced it a few months back! It has a fork and ring around the shafts in there!
  5. Is the stock D30 in 1986 CAD? If so then yes I do! Are the 97+ shafts different splinned?
  6. thanks for the input, I've heard mixed things of the AX-5 but if it becomes a problem I will get an AX-15 and bolt it up with a Dakota bell housing!
  7. I got tired of everyday filling my clutch resivwar in the morning and pumping the clutch till It would work and decided I would finally replace the clutch slave! Tools Needed: Brake line wrenches Junk 1/2 inch wrench Blow tourch Hammer Silicone gasket maker 10mm wrench (for bleeder valve) Channel locks (pesky brale line fittings) DOT 3 brake fluid When I first looked at it it looked impossible to get to, there was a bolt with limited access on top of the slave! The 2 nuts holding the slave in are 1/2 bolts. On the top ,there is no way you could fit a socket on there; so I made my own tool out of an old 1/2 wrench! This custom tool is KEY to easy instillation and removal! I heated it up with a tourch and bent it at about a 45* angle. You wouldnt believe how easy this made the job! It took about an hour. Next I removed the clutch slave from the transmission. look how mangled it was! I put that nasty thing where it belongs in the trash! :) Next I took off the spacer and put silicone seal on it and put it on the new clutch slave. Then I reconnected the lines to the new clutch slave and connected it to the transmission TAKE NOTE: losen the bleeder valve on the new slave before mounting it! Found out this the hard way! there it is all hooked up! Next you need to bleed the slave just like you would do a brake system and tighten the bleeder valve on the Slave and your done! The tool I used made this process much easier!:) I hope this helped anyone that was struggelig with that pesky upper bolt!
  8. For starters here's my build specs 1986 Jeep Comanche 2.8 AX-5 tranny with the 207 TC Dana 30 front 4.10 Ford 8.8 rear 4.10 trussed 6-7 inches of lift 33x12.50r15 BFG's AT on Mickey Thompson 15" "bead locked" rims. The 2.8 will soon be swapped out for a 3.4 furl injected Camaro engine with some custom mods hopefully to be a 200hp engine all said and done... My question is will a Dana 30 with stock shafts and 4.10 gears trusses be enough to handle my build? After Recruit training I would like to take my MJ out more and use it as a sort of trail/Pre-runner Vehicle (nothing crazy) Also any other upgrades you would like to list that would be good for me let me know I would like to get all the knowledge I can! My next future upgrades if you can call it one is a body work and paint job, front Y links, limiting straps, fox 2.0 shocks/ struts, and one day maybe even a coil converted rear not sure how that would benefit me! So anything you wanna throw in tell me!:)
  9. I'll be praying for you
  10. okay that seems way over my head, so I'm going to have to say no to that swap!
  11. it sure does it ended up wing a Dana 35!
  12. Mine for the time being is a street queen, I just graduated and don't have the money to replace parts that I would break on the trail or rock crawling but I would love to do it one day! For now I have a 6 inch lift and 33's with a rear ford 8.8 and front Dana 30 both with factory 4.10 gears! With this setup, in your opinion, do you think that my transmission would do well?
  13. thanks for the info, is this an easily done swap?
  14. I have, once I get my mind set on something it eats at me until I end up doing it! So all weekeed Ive been reading up on swaps and I would like to keep the 3.4L fuel injection system but am very confused on how to do this.
  15. Hopefully 10 years is enough! I have the ax-5 will that be a future problem for me? I don't drive wrecklessly or go hard on my transmission!
  16. Thank you, really good advice!
  17. Ive been debating this ever since ive got my MJ. An engine swap and which one to do! My father has the 4.0 in his cherokee and I love the power of it and everything about it. It is also a bullet proof motor. If I were to go this route I would get a whole new donor cherokee and swap the engine, tranny, TC, wire harness, ect.. and I can get one for under 1000 here in St. Louis. Now on the other hand I could get a 3.4 from a camaro for $400 with 80k on it and have it bored and stroked for under $ 1,000. And from what ive been told this is a direct swap to my MJ as it is. So I need help deciding which Is the better route to take! The 4.0 with more power and work Involved or the direct bolt 3.4. Also trading my MJ for one with the 4.0 is not an option. I love this thing to death it was my first vehicle and I plan to keep it forever if possible. Any oppinion is appreciated!:) ide like to get as many oppinions as possible! This is all for future refrence so I can look back when this project comes up In time.
  18. I need help identifying a friends rear axle in his 84 CJ7. He said the carrier said DANA on it but It looks to me like a AMC 20. sorry for the pic this is the only one I have! Help appreciated.
  19. I would but they run straight into the main harness and are very brittle
  20. is it adjustable in any way?
  21. On my 1986 jeep comanche 2.8L there are 4 wires going to my Ignition coil and I was wondering what they are.. I'm planning to buy a shift light but to take it apart and have it illuminate the factory upshift light at 3K. Here is a picture of all the wires going to the coil. help would be greatly appreciated!
