  1. i got the sizes, turns out the other sizes are for the dana 44, website doesn't show that but in the store does, just gotta wait on my old man so i can learn drums, it's somethin i haven't done, i inspect em but don't replace em at work, Redwolf That happened to me when I had my d35 the drums were eitger to big or to small, I can't remember! But I'm glad I have the 8.8 now with discs! No springs or adjusters to always deal with! But the parking brake on it uses a system similar to drums. I plan to get a hydraulic parking break to eleminate that.
  2. Okay thank you sir! I'm actually in the process of bleeding now I have to wait for mt bleeding partner to wake up from his nap first... I Will let everyone know if this works! If not the only thing I can think of Is bad master??
  3. I kept the original distribution block and load sensing valve from the MJ. I did not bypass bleed it, I didn't know there was such a thing! And there were a few tests I did for the booster that i looked up online; not sure how accurate they are though!
  4. A few months back I did the 8.8 swap with the disc brakes. Well I got that all hooked up and the brakes worked alright and the pedal was stiff like it is suppose to be. Well I was at a local JY the other day and spotted the brake master cylinder and booster from a 96 XJ in great condition and pulled it and hooked it up to my 86 MJ. Well after all the lines and what not were hooked up I bled the brakes and the pedal was firm....Until I started the vehicle and it goes to the floor. Odd thin is that the brakes work pretty good the pedal just does not feel right at all. So we re-bled it the proper way again RR RL FR FL. And still had the same problem. So we bled the master cylinder itself. Hooked it up still the same problem. I have verified that the Booster is in good condition and even tried adjusting the booster push rod... Still nothing. This is probably the most frustrated that I have been with my MJ. So I'm off to buy another gallon of Dot 3 20 miles from my house again tomorrow after church! I'm in a bit of a rush as now I'm being told I'm a back up recruit for Feb. 9th! Sort of silly of me to start this brake project so close to then but I couldn't help myself I pulled it and I know the guy and he gave it to me for 30$. I thought it would be a plug and play dealio! Well sorry for my rant hahah so any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you guys very much for all the help these past few moths! :) have a great day all!
  5. so if I were to take 6"-12" of the back of mine?I'd have to measure. To look right you would have to graft the short bed from the center of the wheel wells on to a long bed cut in the same spot. In my opinion, that would have the best proportions. A long bed has to much behind the rear wheels and a short bed's proportions are just a touch off. It's like the cab and nose are the same length as the bed. It would be nice to see one photochopped to see if I'm right. I agree the short beds are a tad short and opposite with the long beds!
  6. mate that could be what I've been seeing!
  7. so if I were to take 6"-12" of the back of mine?
  8. Thanks for the quick replies!
  9. So I know for a fact 87-92 comanches had a short bed avalible (I'm not sure the size) and through 86-92 there was also a "long" bed option! I have the "long" bed model and it is 7.5 feet long, But when I look at the short beds they look abnormally short. But ive seen pictures of MJ's that don't look super long or short, theyre kind of in beteween. So I was wondering if there was a third bed size that I am ignorant of. here's a picture of my MJ long bed that I think is a bit to long and have considered shortening before body work. so is there a third size? If so what is the size of it? Also what is the size of the short bed? Thank you!
  10. I did my 8.8 swap about a month ago and didn't change anything and mine brakes great!
  11. Happened to me once, but if you have a good starter and a fully charged battery, you can drive without the clutch, even from a stop. You lost your master or slave, if your clutch was gone you wouldn't be going anywhere. It would smell burnt too. I guess I'm the opposite, I prefer auto for offroad and stick for the street. I like being able to creep with an auto offroad where with a stick you would be slipping your clutch. On the street I like the stick for being a hooligan. no that's not what I meant! I mean no matter what every time you use your clutch it is slowly wearing down!
  12. Keep em coming! Great information!
  13. Also in my experience with manuals, I'm always thinking sometime the clutch is going to go out....one day
  14. I was just wondering what was better all around in your guys mind! Auto or manual transmissions off road, on road, city, ect.. So say your choice and reason! My choice would be auto as I have been in small offload situations where auto would of been nice or if I had 3 feet  so let's hear it guys!
  15. oh I am! I have then 8.8 rear already, but I will probably need a new driveshaft and Dana 44 front!
  16. awesome to hear! I jus bought the explorer today! I was thinking going with procomp aluminum heads, and a 347 striker kit with the cylinders bored .030 over. With this setup it claims there will be near 400 hp! My main problem is figuring out how to mount up my TC!
  17. Thank you! I will definitely need it! But for this project ill have my father helping me which will be nice!
  18. I will! I've been wanting to contribute to the CC community more!
  19. I was going to mount a brand new 5.0l radiator in front of the motor instead of using the stock 2.8l radatior!
  20. Thanks man! I did consider the 318 but with the situation I'm in ( low miles 5.0 driven by an old man) and for 700$ I'm coming out on top! I'm taking the engine transmission and worrying harness/ECU and parting out the rest, so in hoping to make the 700$ back in miscellaneous parts!
  21. So me and my dad sat all day talking swaps of motors and decided if were going to do any swap lets go all out and do a v8 swap! So tomorrow were off to get a awd 1999 for explorer 5.0 from a friend for 700$. It runs great but has one cracked radiator hose from the -10 we had the other week! So were sending it off to get bored as soon as we get it out. As well as ported and polished heads and intake. My father had a 68 f250 390 ci bored and stroked around my age (18) and loved it and I think this brought back the memory. I am super excited about this swap and will post pictures and tell about all the troubles an mishaps we have on the way! Any tips you guys have will be greatly appreciated! :) Also I am not planning on this being cheap or easy... At all!
  22. plans just took a major change! I spoke with my dad tonight and he said if we're swapping a motor in we're making it a v8! So tomorrow were off to pick up a 5.0l 302 ford explorer
  23. yes, I was going to get the aluminum heads and new style intake and have them ported and polished! I was hoping to make somewhere around 200-210 hp as that is what I would be happy with. My 2.8 has no backbone to it. I would love to do a 350 Chevy or 360 does swap but that is above me as this will be my first motor swap
  24. Awesome! Good to know its pretty reliable as well
