  1. Thanks! Sorry for the wrong forum. I asked Kody first, ha! He's out.
  2. Hey all, so my ECU is fried. I have an '86 5 speed 2.5L comanche. They have an ECU on rock auto, but it says it's for the automatic, the part numbers it lists don't match the one on my ECU. My PN: 8953002099 I've been searching and I've found plenty, but they either look different, or are $400!! Anyone have some insight as to where/how I can get one that I can trust will work? Thanks so much!
  3. so my '86 2.5L broke down a while ago. No fuel, the pump wasn't kicking on when I turn the key to the run position. Looked at the relay, wasn't firing, bridged the power sources in the relay, pump kicked on. Replaced the relay, still doesn't work, i found the ground in that particular relay pigtail is extremely weak. Even with the fuel pump bridged and running, no ignition. so I'm assuming the bad ground effecting the relay is also stopping the ignition from working correctly. I did all of the grounds from the renix tip page, firewall, tail light, dipstick. No help. So i moved on to the c101 connector. I can't find it, there isn't one. Which tells me maybe my '86 isn't 100% '86. Great, so now I have a bad ground, I assume it's somewhere in the loom? I'm considering running a ground wire right to the relay pigtail and seeing if that's my problem. I'm not a big fan of fixing things the "wrong" way. Any ideas? Any input would be great, leads, ideas on where I should check next. I can't find any obvious faults, pinches, cuts, etc in the loom. What am I missing?
  4. One of them is the fuel pump, the one closest to the firewall. Pretty sure the other two are AC compressor and cooling fan clutch? I could be wrong on those two.
  5. Sorry man, but she's their client and her statement contradicts yours. You didn't take pics of the scene? that's accident 101, man. Also, like lots said, you can't expect payment for aftermarket parts. You need to have had the aftermarket value appraised and have it insured by your insurance company before the OTHER company will pay for them. It's a pain, believe me. I also have USAA and they have been nothing but stand-up and honest. Sounds like they are standing behind their client. That being said, I hope the police report clears it all up and they pay, but how can you expect them to pay to fix aftermarket equip? They are only on the hook for replacing stock parts.
  6. What did you glue it to? Looks killer man, I'm going to try this.
  7. Sorry, the only pic i see is your avatar pic. Is there a jeep in this thread? ha, killer build so far man, that jeep looks amazing. Well done.
  8. I've got a '97 column in my '86. Don't know if that helps.
  9. Thanks for the feedback. Eagle: I don't know any of my alignment measurements, I want to know what's going on before I take it to get aligned. Don't want an expensive surprise! Rockfrog: What do I do to diagnose this? Any input on how I figure out if anything is bent? do you think the outer tire wear is not camber, but a toe issue? I'll try to get some front-on pictures of the jeep so you can see how the tires are aligned.
  10. So I know this topic has come up, but I'm 90% sure i don't have a bent axle tube, so I am wondering whats the best way to correct my camber? As you can see, I've got some really bad camber. The tires are pointed inward at the bottom. if the axle was bent, they'd be inward at the top. so what can I do to fix this? As an aside, I was looking around, and I saw that my spring contacts the spindle, what's up with that? Is that normal? Thanks for your help!
  11. Update: The comanche made a 320 mile round trip into the mountains this weekend. The hills were rough, but I only needed 3rd a few times. The jeep did awesome! I got out and back, logging trails, 2 trips up the mountain with 1K+ LBS of wood in the bed, bouncing around the muddy ruts of the trail, then back home. only used 3/4 of a tank! The alignment did a number on the tires, the fronts are almost completely shot now. They were close before. Eagle, above you say if my speedo was at 60, i was doing closer to 70. Are you sure? at some points, I was cruising at close to 70 on the speedo. I can't imagine I was up close to 80 MPH. People were still passing me! All-in-all, the jeep did amazing. Now time to figure out my alignment problems and replace the two front tires!
  12. Thanks for all the tips guys. I'm going to go do some reading. I took it out on the highway again today and stayed in 4th, my issue was WAY WAY better, also the MPG on the highway was better. I guess I'm a dummy and don't know how to drive an old jeep! using 4th was a huge help. Now to go see about spiffing up my motor! I think my biggest problem is that with the mud tires and zero interior (besides seats) the jeep is SO LOUD above 50MPH, that I can't hear the motor. Without a tach, I've got no idea where my RPM are. I guess I was hitting hills in 5th (didn't know any better) and was probably at very low RPM. Once I hit hills in 4th, at what I'm guessing is 2K RPM, it was buzzing along at 60, no problem.
  13. wow, so what gearing would you recommend for 35's? something even bigger?
  14. I was thinking 4.88's. The chart says 4.56's give you a decent RPM in 5th, but that's with a decent motor! 4.88's should do the trick. I hope!
  15. Thanks for the info guys. I'm thinking my newbie a$$ needs to stop hitting hills in 5th gear! So, with the 2.5L, will 35's just be a terrible idea? even with gears?
  16. Thanks Eagle, I appreciate the feedback. I think I knew, I just wanted to be sure maybe there wasn't another problem. 3rd gear gets me all the way to 50 MPH (on the speedo, with 265/70 R16's) so I assume i may be climbing some of these hills at the top of 3rd and bottom of 4th. I'm honestly afraid to rev the motor too high, but it seems as though that's where the power is. so if I'm avoiding high revs, and the power is up at 3,500.... I'm avoiding the power peak, making things worse! Thanks again.
  17. I'd be very curious. I'll keep an eye out!
  18. Ha, I know my 2.5 is tired for sure. Any ideas on how to freshen it up? I want to regear, but I plan to put 35's under it, so I don't want to have to gear it twice. Do you think i'll regret 35's even after a regear?
  19. So I have finally got the 'Manche running. Replaced a whole lot of parts, including the motor mounts. So i took it on it's first trip up the highway and it was..... bad. The thing bogs down REALLY bad on hills, I downshift to 4th and it doesn't get any power at all. I feel like the second half of the gas pedal doesn't do anything. Where should I start looking? Also, the thing is getting single digit gas mileage, it's worse than my 9MPG SRT8 Jeep. Info: 6" lift and 32's (I know, with stock gears, this is a problem) It's got vacuum leaks, I'm working on those. It keeps leaking oil out of the filler cap, I even replaced the seal, still leaks We removed the catalytic converter, where it was mounted was turning the pass side floor into LAVA. ha! So I'm humming along at what the speedo (not reliable) tells me is 65 in 5th. I hit a hill, downshift to 4th, and it gives me zero extra umph, the thing just bogs and bogs until I'm going 45 and begging the hill to end. I'm afraid of dropping it to 3rd, as I don't know if the RPM will jump too high. The dang jeep is so loud with the tires, I can't hear the motor, and with no tach, I have NO clue where I'm at RPM wise. Help!! What do I do?
  20. Ha, saw my name in the quote and thought I'd said something stupid and was being called out! It's pretty amazing, I don't know if they don't care, don't know any better? Stop, look around, does it make sense to install the bolt in that direction? The world is full of dip$#!&s, including the ones who build cars.
  21. Mine was leaking from the pressure line that goes from the pump to the gearbox. It took me forever to figure it out. there was a little plug on it that needed to be tightened. Because it was under pressure, it sprayed the fluid away from it and wasn't wet. pain in the azz.
  22. hahaha, if only!
  23. So I found a few short threads on soft tops for the MJ. The softopper looks awesome, but it's only for the 73" bed. What about us longbed guys? Anyone have any luck with something designed for another truck with a 7 foot bed? Any ideas?
  24. yeah for sure, I'll read up on it too. Sounds like a good idea.
  25. This happened to me. mine had to be taken apart to get it to work. By the time i had it apart, it was broken worse. (i'm a dummy) Ended up buying a column with tilt, it feels like a lexus now! Good luck bud.
