Looking for a Marine Heater
navigator replied to pitbull4x4's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
yup, heat is pretty simple. if your blower and Tstat are working then it is about water flow. -
I've not even tried it on a ramp yet. My experience on boat ramps with manuals is you can never trust an e-brake or turning it off in gear. I've had both wet/bite me in the rear. I have another vehicle that i tow with for now anyway.
-
I think advanced auto can check the alternator while it is on the vehicle and check the battery as well for free.
-
yeah, i'd love to go AW4 and regear but i don't think it will ever happen. Auto's work much better on boat ramps than manuals.

Rear Fender Flares Needed for my 88 Comanche
navigator replied to moconnell's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
hey, fill out your profile so we can know what you got and where you are. -
just an update I had a few minutes yesterday so I took a 3/8 allen head socket and ground it to about 8mm using my bench grinder. i used a squirt bottle and squirted water on it the whole time to keep it cool and it worked like a charm. The funny thing was that the plug came out really easy, I didn't even need the pipe on the end of my pull handle. Initially I thought something broke, maybe I loosened it up earlier or actually did use PB Blaster, I'm not sure. I ended up having to put what seems like a 1/2 gallon of gear oil in it so It won't surprise me if you see a new thread soon asking questions about replacing the BA 10/5 :-)

thanks guys, Pete, I would love to put in a new tranny, an AW4 and regear but I can't afford it right now. I think I'll go with the find from Wildman and see what I can do there. thanks for all the replies.
-
I've tried that already a couple times and the part that I grind down just twists until it almost breaks off.
-
yes, it is smaller than a 3/8 and larger than 1/4. I think the official size is 8mm which is really close to 5/16.
-
I'm pretty sure I sprayed it before, I'll spray it again and by the time I get something to get the plug out it might help loosen it up. would it hurt to heat it a little with the torch (the little coleman fuel type)?
-
mine is in so tight, i couldn't get enough leverage on that i don't think.

has anyone found a supplier here in the US of such a tool? I have found several in the UK but I can't find one in the US. I tried making one out of an extension but it keeps twisting. I'm getting a quote from the vendor below on shipping. If shipping isn't that much more I might get like 5 of them in case someone else needs one. http://www.justoffbase.co.uk/8mm-Square ... aper-DDPK6 if shipping is too high, i might try getting an impact strength ext or something to try building another tool. i just had another thought, my dad is a freakin machinist, i bet he can make one!

Cruise COntrol in a 5spd?
navigator replied to smithe1811's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
here in NC, i spend a lot of time on roads most wouldn't use cruise on but i use it to keep from getting speeding tickets. once I get to speed, I set the cruise. If you slow down you only need to get back up to speed and hit resume or just hit resume and it holds you there. I like it. -
I read about a lot of folks running 3 inches on stock control arms. You could try stock and see how bad it sucks for you and then decide. I could probably live with it because we just beat around in the woods and do an occasional dump/lumber run, I hope this is never my DD :-). I want to do a 3 inch lift myself and know for me I wouldn't ever go over 3 inches just because of the cost. I expect what I will likely do is a 2 inch spacer and maybe a chevy drop shackle and leave it alone. Would I like a 6 inch SOA with 33's? oh yeah but I can't see myself spending $1000+ on a lift, $1000+ to regear the 3.07 and ~$1000 on tires(5), too many larger priorities.

it was my ghetto wiring. I unplugged the CB and all is well. The plug had 4 wired, red with white stripe, black, brown with black stripe and white with black stripe. instead of getting the red and black wires, I had the red and brown wires. i switched to red and black and everything is fine now. funny thing is when testing with the meter it seemed as if all were grounds except the red wire. anyway, thx for the responses.
-
I plugged it into the connector. i found the plug and got 12v from a red wire and a black wire and figured it would work. I'll try to unplug it this afternoon and see what happens. I'll be traveling tomorrow so I might not respond immediately.
-
the CB was off. I have used the CB some for a couple of days and it seemed fine (during the day). While troubleshooting, i noticed the interior lights blinking as well. I turned hte CB on and it is "flashing" as well. i'll try pulling those wires this afternoon and see what happens.
-
I was driving home the other night and my headlights started flashing really bad, off and on, off and on. i also noticed the interior lights are also flashing as well. it doesn't do it when I initially turn the lights on, only when they have been on a few seconds does it start. i figure it is a ground somewhere but thought i would ask here before I start chasing wiring problems. bTW, i recently wired up a CB by finding a 4 wire plug under the dash that was hot and used two male electrical blade type plugs to plug into that plug, could that be related?
-
my 88 has 235's on the stock 5 star rims and they don't rub at all.
-
some XJ's (97 and newer) with as little as 3 inches of lift need a transfercase drop or SYE.
-
here are the two links i used. if you get a lock plate removal tool and a steering wheel remover then it isn't too big of a deal, just take your time. http://www.buickperformance.com/tiltste ... wobble.htm http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/088020.html my column was actually busted so i had to replace anyway. i ended up getting a donor from the jy but it wasn't an exact match so i've either got to modify it or source another donor. waiting for the weather to break to get back into it.
-
is the tranny you are replacing completely shot or mostly shot? if it is just mostly shot, maybe put the bad tranny back in your donor so you can at least move it around the yard. if it is completely shot why can't you continue to crank the engine after you remove the tranny? I'm not familiar enough with it to know but i would think you could crank it even with the tranny removed.
-
do you mean all the tools? They are in his Jeep of course!
-
thx man, pm sent.

would it all fit in the back of my trailblazer? my Comanche isn't ready to make a trip that long yet.
