  1. Gotta love that Tennessee red clay.
  2. No, I don't mind if it's original or not. Just curious. Now I'm wondering what the front axle and diff might be...Might be something better than the Dana 30 I understand would have came stock in it...Now I'll have to crawl under and see what it's really got.
  3. Just for fun I ran my VIN through a decoder on a Jeep site, and it came up as a 2WD Cherokee with a Comanche truck body. Now I'm really beginning to wonder what the previous owner did to it before I got it. I thought it was just a parts store computer glitch when the 4WD front brake pads didn't fit, but the 2WD ones did. If you convert to 4WD, would you keep the 2WD brake calipers? I have a suspicion that the center console isn't original either, considering there's an ashtray on the back of it that's been used. Is there a way to find out if the bucket seats are original? BTW, I have no way of contacting the original or previous owner because I bought it from a used car dealer.
  4. My DD is a '96 Saturn SL 5-speed. 185K without any real problems yet, knock on wood. Gutless, but I don't mind downshifting to make a hill when it's getting 40+ on the highway.

    Jeep Quiz

15 out of 25. At least I assume everyone here got #5 and #10 right.
  7. Thanks for the replies. I'll try cleaning up the ground tomorrow.
  8. For me it wouldn't really have to be a 4-door, but an extended cab would be nice. Maybe something like the little suicide doors on the full size Chevy/GMC line.
  9. First off, my truck is a '90 Eliminator shortbox, 4x4 5 speed, 4.0. The electrical system seems weak. The charge needle drops quite a bit for each thing turned on. It only gets to the red zone when trying to jump start another vehicle, but it gets close to it when using a turn signal and wipers at the same time. Or even the heater by itself. I've already replaced the serpentine belt, and adjust the tension every few weeks. A parts store tested the system and said it was fine. Would a higher amp alternator or better battery help? I'd really like to put in a decent sound system, but I don't think think it can handle it as is. The oil pressure gauge pegs the needle as soon as I start it and it stays there all the time it's running, is that normal? Is there an easy way to change the angle of the shifter? When I plug in my phone charger, I can't use 1st or 3rd gear. Or are these just things I have to deal with? On the positive side, I carried about 1200 pounds of concrete mix in the bed the other day, and it didn't break a sweat!
  10. My cap is very similar to that one, only the side windows are smaller on mine. They do slide open though. I got mine for $100 from a used car dealer. Apparently, he gets trucks that have caps and takes them off to sell seperately. Mine is light gray fiberglass, doesn't look too bad on my black Eliminator shortbox.
  11. There's the difference between Michigan and Georgia. They use salt on the roads in winter here in NY, do they use it in Michigan?

I do admit, I'm thinking of getting a Cherokee also. I like my wife's Grand Cherokee, but I prefer the "squarer" look of the regular Cherokee. I work out of town mostly and have to carry my luggage in back. I've tried using a cap, but it's a pain to see around while backing up while it's dark out. Right now I have a tonneau cover on it, but that doesn't leave much usable space.

On another note, you ever notice how after you buy a vehicle, you start to notice how that vehicle seems to be everywhere? Not so with my Comanche. In my travels all over upstate NY, I've only seen one other one, and the body was almost completely gone from rust.
  14. Try to convince Bolink(are they still around?), Pro-Line, or Parma to make one for the T-Maxx, and I'd buy a few.

Hi, all. I'm the proud owner of a '90 Comanche Eliminator 4X4 5 speed, 4.0, stock for now. Honestly I've always been a car person. Only bought a pickup for work originally. I wasn't actively looking for a Jeep really, but after looking around at several used car dealers, the Jeep stood out as something different than the S-10's, Rangers, and Toyotas you see everywhere. Then it snowed. I should mention that I live in an area that averages over 200 inches a year. This thing is amazing! Goes through 3 foot snowbanks like they're not even there(it's been a very mild winter so far) while the S-10s, Rangers and Toyotas my coworkers have get buried.

    The Wife

My wife doesn't really want much to do with my Comanche( it's my work truck), but she was more than happy to get rid of her minivan for a '94 Grand Cherokee to haul kids and groceries with.
