Geonovast you are correct sir, that is exactly what I am looking for from the xj, going to look at it in a couple days. So cross my fingers it doesn't have any dark secrets like a missing trans :/ .

Hey guys been looking for a donor xj for 4wd parts for my Comanche, there is a 96 xj 4.0 manual with 350000 Km on it or 217479 miles for my american friends. My question is would something with this much mileage be worth buying for the drivetrain? The guys wants 500 bucks for the thing, apparently runs but needs starter. Came from out of province so he needs to get it inspected to get it insured here so that seems to be why he is selling it. http://saskatoon.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-cars-trucks-1996-Jeep-Cherokee-SUV-W0QQAdIdZ485998838

So I finally got some time to pull some stuff apart the ball joints seem good knuckle turns easy, I did swap out my steering shock since it seems to have leaked all the fluid out of it, drives a bit more normal now, tho still seems off I'm going to have a wheel alignment done once i get some new tires on I think.

Hey guys I have a 2wd long box 4.0 with the poopy peugot 5 spd, I want to convert to 4wd , I have a donor 89 4x4 4.0l with the crappy tranny as well. Just wondering if the trans case from the 4x4 will bolt onto the 2wd?
-
airspeed what exactly do you mean the ball joints were too tight? Like had resistance inside and were not swiveling properly?
-
Thanks for the replies guys! I will roll the truck into the shop when i get a second and go over the front suspension to see if i can find anything.

Hey guys just got a new comanche a couple weeks ago 89 2wd 4.0 and the steering seems ....odd? It may just need a wheel alignment but it seems to want to wander around and not drive straight ? Iits definitely drive able but just seems to not want to steer normaly.

Or this for the general shape possibly filling in with plate in the open areas and adding lights in the corners, and minus the bars prerunner bars coming up ?

Hey guys this might be asking the impossible but I have been wondering about the feasibility of a lightweight tube bumper for one of my projects. My 89 2wd to 4wd truck is going to be an capable daily driver running 31's on stock suspension with lockers etc Mileage being a priority. So long story short I want to put stronger bumpers on front and back with tow points, but don't want a 200 pound monstrosity. Has anyone done a project like this or know of the top of their head what a minimal tube bumper weighs? No winch FYI

Anyone near red deer I saw this one on kijiji, or if you feel like a bit of a drive. Here :D 90 4x4 eliminator!
-
Other than the one spot where its gone through there It seems pretty solid. That area is going to be my first venture into cutting out a spot and welding in a new piece of metal on outer body. So we will see how that goes haha. The whole thing is going to end up getting painted flat black the right way if I can find a new clutch.

Due to the seller only having a bike as a spare vehicle and his new on delayed being here I have to wait till thurs to get it :(. Its raining like a B here so hes not fond of riding in the rain i guess.

So the long and short story is over the past two years i spend many an hour wrenching on this thing. I took pictures along the way to post but I can't find them now :( Replace floor pans, put a 8000 pound winch on it , replaces some distributor parts new exhaust/intake gasket, new exhaust, some wiring for lights and It was ready to go do stuff! It never really ran the best sounding but it moved around and did great in the mud, drove it in our local mud bog two years ago and didnt even slow down in the pit. Unfortunately it has been sitting dead for about a year now, due to i believe and massively exploded clutch. The bright side is that I now work at a shop that will allow me to wrench on my projects to my hearts desire! :D (I am a first year Heavy Duty Tech) Once my current project is done this thing is getting dragged in to the shop to be diagonosed and made into a designated offroader as I have acquired one in a lot better shape for a Daily Driver. And yes if you look close on the paint you can see brush marks, and no it was not me haha

Very Over Due but this was the heep coming home massive oil leak from the valve cover haha

Hey Hey guys I am back after an absence of a couple years. I have found another Comanche, in much better condition than my current one, that is being used to hold down 4 patches of dirt under its tires haha. Any ways this one will be mine as of tmrw! Plans in the works/pipe dreams are to swap in a 4wd system, a new back bumper, new front bumper, lights, some stereo equip, lights, random tweaking of stuff lol. For the 4wd swap I will have to check out what my tranny is and compatibility issues and model and what I will have to get for the swap. After the 4wd is in I want to put a bit bigger tires on, but this is going to be a "capable utility truck" so 98% on road. So that means Extremely light new front bumper and rear, thinking building my own custom tube bumper? Anyone have experience with that? If I feel really rich I may be inclined to throw some lockers in depending on what I will be riding on for axles. Floor boards are clean frame is clean, somewhere along the lines this has had a undercoating sprayed on it, corner cab surface rust starting, I will deal with that immediately. Bench Seat is coming out, getting some buckets from somewhere not sure yet, I felt like I was going to sink while I was Test Driving it. Has an aftermarket exhaust system that sounds awesome :P All in all this is probably the cleanest Comanche I have ever seen this far north the price tag was $2000 Canadian, it may seem steep but I see more corvettes up here than I do Comanches as most have long ago rotted away.

hmmm sounds like a good idea sir! People may not jack up that many cherokees around here but they sure do wreck alot of them.

whats usually run with 35s? 89 4.0l 5spd manual
-
thanks for the replies guys! you've said about as much as i had assumed, that i would need a 44 if i was going to lock it, ill start hitting up the junk yards around here. There aren't that many tricked out jeeps around here so hopefully they have some 44's kicking around. Ill try not to go insane with it for now lol. I'm working on getting the rest of the jeep to be able to pass a safety, since its from out of province the gov wants a safety on vehicles before you can plate them. Even though i never intend to take it on the highway i want to be able to hit the gravel roads to go hunting. Problems include An oil leak of large proportions, valve cover gasket for sure and it looks like the rear main seal as well grrr, rust of mammoth proportions, no kidding at all its ridiculous, exhaust leaks that put out more exhaust than the end of the pipe, and a mysteriously missing rear bumper hmmm good think i know how to weld . Luckily i work at a mechanical shop where i can work inside every night if i want! Ive been taking pics and will post on a build thread when i get a chance.

I just got a Comanche with some stuff already on it, minus lockers, no 44 sadly just 35 and i was wondering antidisestablishmentarianism the success failure rate of locking these axles is? Oyea it has to turn 35 x 12.5 mudders. Also ive found a guy with a front dana 44 for sale with manual warn hubs it would fit on mine right?
-
Well i grabbed up a comanche finally, an 89 4.0 5 spd manual 4x4 with an 8.5 lift and 35 dick cepeks on it already. Problem is this thing has rust problems like an S0B. Mostly on the box so I'm gonna try to just find a new box, some on the doors i think i can sand and paint, and of course the floors need re done, yaaaaay. Will post pics soon as i figure out how to do that.

Iv seen increasing number of winches made by Runva, some chinese company plastered all over buy and sell sites for cheap pricing, has anybody had experience with these?
