It fit decent but you must pop the top of the frame rail off that runs along the inside ofthe cab if you want any chance at all if it fitting.

I used to have Progressive, but three months into the coverage they sent me a letter saying that I had an accident 4 years and 11 months prior to the initiation of my policy. Since their cutoff was five years of past driving history (at the time - I think they lowered it to 3 years), they increased my rates by 20%. Switched to eSurance and their rates are very reasonable. But, at 18, they're going to screw you every way they can. I stayed on my parents policy until I was 23 and just cut them a check every six months for it. If I were you, I would talk to 21st century and find a way to stay on your Dad's policy.

I ordered a drivers front pan made by Classic 2 Current but sold by RockAuto. I went with RockAuto over buying direct from the manufacture because I had heard of them being a little bit slow. And, if I didn't get the pan in a timely fashion, I could have complained to RockAuto and they probably would have given me a 15% discount coupon code (they gave this to me when I complained that they sent the wrong part to me). Not sure if Classic 2 Current would have done the same for me...and I don't anticipate ordering too much from them whereas I place an order with RockAuto at least once a month.

This is an unfortunate truth for many of us with rusty MJs. I've been doing a similar conversion to my '88MJ (97+ Interior, front end, doors, etc) and I've spent more time cutting out rust/rot and sealing up the frame to prevent further rust than I have actually getting the 97+ XJ parts in the MJ and fitting them up.

Got lots and lots of pictures to post up. Once I get my FiOS service back, I'll throw them up in this thread. Pulled the engine and trans today and took out every little thing in the engine bay, power washed it and am about to throw a coat of paint in there, but I've got a couple of firewall holes to patch up first and a couple of new ones to drill for the wiring harness on the passenger side. Hope to have a coat of paint in the engine bay before I call it a night. -
Still no FiOS service... Still tethering through my iPhone... Still no Verizon technicians... My uncle has an old Verizon lift truck that I may just borrow, park in front of my house and inspect the fiber cable at the pole. I'll be sure to put on a Verizon-like uniform and hard hat so I look the part.

Rare is a relative term. To me, the Jeep Comanche isn't all that rare. Any vehicle I can search for on the local classifieds and get anywhere from 5-15 hits at any given time does not classify as a rare vehicle to me. What makes a Comanche rare are the options that it comes with and since you could basically order any trim package and customize the factory options, it's sometimes hard to nail down what is rare and what is not. Some of the things that make a Comanche rare are bucket seats, full center console, black interior, power windows/locks, rear cargo light, Dana 44 rear end, and any one of the many other factory-certified options (hitch, hidden winch, fiberglass cap, etc.). Of the aforementioned options, a lot of them are found standard on certain trim packages - like the Chief, Eliminator, and Laredo, hence why those trim packages then become "rare." If I had to rank the trim packages in the order of their rareness, from most rare to least, it would go something like this: Laredo Eliminator Chief Pioneer Base/SporTruck/Sport I left out the '86 model trim packages because I'm simply not familiar enough with them to give them an honest ranking, but I would imagine that the XLS would rank up near the Chief and Eliminator.

Unfortunately, you're not going to get an accurate production number based on trim packages. There are many rumors/stories as to why the production numbers cannot be found - records building flooded/caught on fire (I've heard both) and/or the production data was lost when Chrysler bought AMC/Jeep in the late 80's. The only production numbers that seem to be floating around (and I have no idea if they are accurate or not) are total units produced by year. That being said, I can make some generalized blanket statements about your truck. The Chief package was fairly rare. I tend to see more white Chiefs with the maroon interior than I do red Chiefs with the black interior. The red Chiefs with black bucket interiors are probably the most rare (of the Chiefs) and one of the most sought after Comanches.

Painted the inside of the right rear frame rail. Also ordered a full 3" lift kit from Hell Creek Suspensions. -
I have the residential 25/15 plan, one HD box and one SD box and unlimited phone from verizon. It's about $115 after taxes per month. I call up about every six months and threaten to switch to comcast and they always give me some random discount.

No not yet. I have noted the differences in the trans tunnels between the XJ and MJ with regard to how the cables come into the cab. I have some ideas on what to do but I have a bit of other work that needs to get done before I tackle that. -
What's wrong with this one? Plans for it? Vuy from jersey probably thought you were nuts driving all that way for a liberty ha

I had a funny feeling that is what you were doing. Also funny - I was speaking with a guy that hunts around my shop and he took notice of all of the Jeeps I have scattered about and asked me if I was familiar with his Jeep. I said, "Yep, CRD Liberty...only made 2005 and 2006." He asked if I wanted to buy it. Told him I wasn't in the market, but I knew a guy that loves them, but he's in Colorado (speaking about you, Sir Sam). You could have put a dolly on the CRD you were hauling and towed his back to CO. Nice shape and a nice dark blue color. No clue what he wanted for the thing, though. Edit: Way to stop by my place, jerk :D

I’ve had Verizon FiOS for the past 3 years…never had a problem with it and any outages have been very minimal. I think the longest we were without service was about an hour when they were doing some work on the utility pole outside of my house. Verizon even gave me some money back for the inconvenience. So today I wake up and immediately go to my computer and search for jobs. No internet. This has happened once or twice before when the router acted up. Reset router…nothing. Check phone…nothing. Check TV…nothing. Ok, service is out, no big deal. Ride next door to my parents house, who also have FiOS – everything is fine on their end (1/4 mile down the road). My aunt is there and she said she got online this morning and my Uncle was watching TV (they also have FiOS). Turns out it’s just me. Call up Verizon tech support. Wait 30 minutes to talk to a representative. Go over basic troubleshooting with my ONT box in my garage. Turns out I either have a bad wire going from my box to the pole or the box itself is bad. Me: "Ok, stuff breaks…when can the service tech come out?" Verizon: "Oh, I’m sorry, Verizon is having a huge strike right now and there are no technicians available." Me: "Uhhh….ok, when will they be available." Verizon: "Try again in 7 days." Me: "I think I'll be calling Comcast in 7 minutes." Verizon: "I understand your frustration, but there is nothing I can do." WTF.

Low Pinion vs. High Pinion

It'll be just fine for you. The serious off-roaders don't like them because of clearance issues. It'll bolt right up to your rig. -

Yea - fun car. Upgraded turbos, injectors, fuel pump, E-manage, exhaust, intake, etc. Drove that from 2003-2008, but parts for that thing are $$$$$. I also could never stop tinkering with it and just wanted a vehicle I could drive, beat the crap out of and not worry about it breaking down. Or if it did, I could easily find parts for it...so I got my 2001 XJ. -
It looks like you're eating all of the carrots in those pictures. Great looking horse! Best of luck with her.

Exterior of rear frame rails are about 95% complete. Interior paint on the right frame rail to commence once the POR-15 dries - likely tonight. -

If only the factory had done a more thorough job with the undercoating, we'd all have trucks in really nice shape... Back to wire-wheeling... -
Must be all downhill.

Quick little update - just used a can of the Eastwood Internal Frame coating and I have to say that I am thoroughly impressed with it. I was pretty skeptical at first, but bought it because of some very favorable reviews on another forum. I just did the left frame rail and the X-brace and used about one can, but I definitely was VERY liberal with my spraying - had puddles dripping out of the holes on the bottom of the frame. Oh well, better to have too much rust protection rather than not enough. For anyone worried about how well this stuff coats - it works very well. The machined brass nozzle on the end of the extension tube has such fine little holes that the paint blasts out in all directions with enough velocity that it whips the little extension piece around, which gets you excellent coverage. I definitely recommend this stuff. Was on sale for $15.99 a couple days ago... http://www.eastwood.com/internal-frame- ... ozzle.html -

If I did a lift, I would definitely stay spring under. I don't think I'd go much over 3", either. I only do a very small amount of off-roading where I live now and it will be even less to the place I'm moving to. I may be doing a lot more beach cruising, though. So maybe a small lift and some 31" tires. -

LoL. I know shelbyluv was talking about building OBD-II Magnum XJ/MJs for people as a way to generate some $$ when he retires. I don't recall what the $$ figure he threw out was (and if he was serious or not), but I think it was in the $12-15K range. He's not far off the mark for the amount of time that goes into a project like this. My new goal is to have it running and moving by mid-September as that it looking like it will be my moving date, if all goes according to plan. If I can get the big ticket items done, I can work on all of the other little things when I'm at my new garage-less place (boo). I got a lot of the rear frame coated in POR-15. I still need to hit some spots, but they need to be cleaned up before I can lay some paint down. The truck was outside for power washing and I wanted to take advantage of the nice day today to get as much done as possible. Unfortunately, the wire wheeling/cleaning was taking a lot longer than I expected so I decided to paint the frame in steps. Cleaned and painted the top and inner portions of the frame rails, waited for it to dry, and then pushed the truck back inside, where I dropped the rear axle, which will allow me to clean up the bottom and outer portions of the frame. I was going to try to lay some paint on them tonight, but I'm running out of time and once you start with POR-15, you really don't want to stop until you've used up all of the paint you transferred over into a smaller container. I've got to be up early for a viewing tomorrow morning about 3.5 hours away, so that will take up most of my Saturday. I'll be back on this Sunday afternoon hopefully with some pictures of a fully painted rear frame. In the meantime, I've been fitting more pieces of the interior and have begun to clean the interior sheet metal in preparation for paint. I have 90% of the holes I need in the firewall and once I remove the dash, I should be able to patch up the last few remaining ones and resize the driver side wiring harness hole to make it fit the newer style grommet. Here is how she sits right now: I'm also debating on what to do with the rear end since I have it all stripped down. New OEM-spec shocks from Motion? 3" lift? Decisions, decisions... -

Made a template off of the XJ firewall so that I could better locate the positioning of the steering column. Got a rough cut on the firewall - good enough to let the steering column shaft pass through without any interference. Needed to get the MJ out of my shop for a powerwashing. Decided to take some pictures of it as it currently sits so I can get some good before & after shots once I'm finished. Got the inside of the frame powerwashed pretty good. Going to hit it again tomorrow morning to hopefully dislodge some more stuff inside. Then I'm gonig to hit it with this: Outside of the frame rails will be hit with POR-15.
