2000 XJ power train in my MJ
terrawombat replied to BHelton's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Actually, I'm not. I know the size of the tank is posted on the rear. I'll take a look when I'm down at my shop next. I very well could have the 22 gallon tank. It was delivered to my house by a local yard and they have a pretty clear-cut return policy - "You buy it, it's yours." Either way, I gotta make it fit :D -
Aluminum D44's are certainly not a waste of time. Sure, it might not be the most off-road friendly rear axle out there, but trucks, on occasion, will do some other things besides go off-roading. That seems to be one of the things a lot of members often forget on this forum. Anyway - the D44A is found in so many different applications, it's definitely a good axle to know your way around (even the D35 for that matter). Heck, the D44A is even found in the Dodge Viper :brows:

2000 XJ power train in my MJ

Your measurement was to the top of the lip where the fuel pump lid screws on. My measurement was from the floor to the tallest point on the tank, which are two little humps that stick up. Take a look at the pic: If I measured from the floor to the lip, it would probably be around 12 1/2". I can take that measurement when I'm back down at my shop. -
Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to make it happen. I simply do not have the time or resources to make it happen. I will also be making a move to Maryland in the near future and the CNC plasma machine will not be coming with me until I get myself a house with a very large garage.

I was going to say....in the time that you took to make this thread, jimoshel already went and picked the MJ up...for $300....

1988 5.9L Magnum V8 Comanche
terrawombat replied to terrawombat's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
This will be the fuel tank that I plan on using: Out of a '98 or '99 Dakota. 15 gallon tank - pump/regulator are already setup for the 5.2/5.9L Magnum engine and it should talk to the fuel level sender is supposed to talk to the XJ instrument cluster...or so I'm told. We'll just have to wait and see! -

I just picked up a 15 gallon tank out of a '98 or '99 Dakota and I measured it from the floor to the highest point on the outside of the tank, which was 14 3/4". The pressure regulator sits up a little higher at 15 1/8". -

Went to the JY today looking for a 15 gallon Dakota tank. Found one, but this particular yard destroys all of the tanks by drilling multiple holes in them. I'll have to get one from another yard. They did have a huge inventory of Explorer's, so I looked underneath each one to see if I could find one with 3.73 gears to match my D30 front. Found two of them that had limited slip 3.73's, but both had the instrument clusters yanked out so I didn't know the mileage. One was in a '95 Eddie Bauer edition and the other was in a '97 XLT. Tried to determine the amount of play in each and assessed the overall condition of each vehicle and went with the one out of the '95. Brake pads have lots and lot of meat left on them. It wasn't too bad of a pull, but once I had the rear end out, I couldn't figure out a way to get it between all of the vehicles with the springs still attached. I didn't have an 18mm deep socket on me to get the leaf springs off, but luckily a very cheerful Mexican working on the Explorer next to me did. Got the leaf springs off and had a guy in the yard load it up on the yard truck and drove it to the parking lot and loaded it in the back of my MJ. Axle cost me $150 and I tripped the yard guy $10 for his services. He probably makes that per hour and he seemed pretty happy. I'm going to pull the axles, remove the parking brake components and fix the dust shields. Unfortunately every vehicle in the yard rests on the axles, which bends the dust shields. Going to paint it up nice and get it mounted under the truck on it's new Hell Creek 3" leaf springs when they arrive (hopefully by the end of next week). Also going to have a guy weld up the tubes to the cast iron pumpkin as that seems to be a weak spot on these. -
Not a redditor, but that piece amused me - mainly because I've been in that situation before looking for an escape route. I didn't cook hot dogs over a fire or burn anyone's carpet, but did accidentally break a lamp and was politely asked to leave. Problem solved!

What's the most miles you got from a full tank?
terrawombat replied to Jerry's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I get between 220-240 miles, but I have no idea what size my tank is. And my fuel gauge is off. What are the standard (and optional) tank sizes on the shortbeds? Longbeds? -
Haha I don't care about the threadcrap. I just want my FiOS back dammit.

Unions, schmunions. Verizon needs to hire some SCABS to get the work done while all of the big wigs sit around a fancy oak table and negotiate. If I don't get some sort of substantial credit for the lost service, I'm going to be PISSED.

They don't have a way to detect how the individual data packets are being used but if you go over the "normal" daily or weekly iPhone data usage you'll be flagged and if you contInue to abuse it you get a letter/text stating you will be automatically enrolled in their $20/month tethering plan. Your dad using 27Gb clearly set off the warning indications.

Yea, the dealer had what was known as the "death flash" because people were complaining of having to put premium fuel in their $45K+ SUV with a 5.9L V8 engine. I've got the SCT handheld for my Niner with three "canned" tunes for 87, 91, and 93 octane. Currently on the 87 octane flash for cheap summer cruising. Yep, still got the grille. It's stone white and in pretty nice shape. Has a small crack up on top where one of the mounting screws is, but it's not broken and could easily be repaired with epoxy...or just left as is and you be careful not to overtighten the screw like the PO did.

I ordered the front drivers pan for my MJ and the fit was decent, but not great. It required a couple of additional cuts to get it to fit the contour around the transmission tunnel. Also, there is a support piece that goes from the rocker panel to the frame rail on the MJ (the XJ does not have this...at least my '99 and '01 XJs don't). The floor pan wasn't really formed correctly to fit that and the pan seems to sit about 1/4" to 1/2" above it. When I get internet back at my shop, I can better show you with pictures. Other than what I listed, it fit fine and was made out fairly thick steel. It was a HECK of a lot better than the Fred Flinstone MJ I had before.

Yes, it's jailbroken with the MyWi app installed. AT&T and Verizon do not like it and will nail you for it if you use it too much.

My best piece of advice to anyone thinking about doing the 97+ XJ conversion to their MJ - find a RUST FREE Comanche to start with for a base. I have spent more time futzing around with rust repair than I have with the actual conversion. I've already cut two chunks of the frame out and re-welded in new steel, replaced the entire driver's front floorpan and still need to button up the passenger side frame rail. I could have saved myself days of time had I started with a solid base. And I still have rockers and rear wheel well rust repairs to do once I get to that point...probably just going to let a professional do it as I've had just about enough with the rust repair :D -
Don't want to switch right now. Comcast only offers 1 year contracts in my area - no month-to-month. I'm slated to me moving to MD within the next month or so...don't want to be signing contracts for a residence I no longer live in. Tried to pick up a signal from my parents place, but didn't have any luck. I didn't really try all that hard either since it has been raining all day and I don't really feel like getting wet :D

Here is what I got accomplished last week: Painted the engine bay - but it didn't come out very well so I've been spending countless hours sanding out some of the runs and trying to smooth it out. Patched up holes in the firewall - made a bracket for the newer style rubber grommet and welded it over the old wiring harness hole. No trimming needed and works great. Patched over the clutch master cylinder hole as well. Originally I wanted to use a bolted plate so that if I ever wanted to swap to a manual, it wouldn't be so bad. Decided to just tack weld it instead so looks like I'm sticking with an auto. Made an adapter plate to cover the old steering column hole and place the new hole in the proper spot. Lots of cutting and grinding went into this to get it right. Replaced the drivers floor pan, reinstalled the top of the drivers frame rail and installed the front seat mounting bracket from the '99XJ donor. Seam sealed everything and primed it all. Need to button up the passenger side frame rail before I can repaint the interior. So, with any luck, I hope to be finished with all of the nitty gritty work on the interior by tonight. I have a job interview in Maryland Tuesday morning so I'm probably going to take Monday off to prepare myself and drive down to my girlfriends place in MD in the evening. I should get back to work on the truck by Wednesday and I really, really, really want to get the interior completely painted and coated with QuietCar so I can FINALLY put the thing together. It's been sitting as a bare shell for too long now and I'm getting anxious to finally see it as a real truck. I'll put some pictures up when I actually get internet service back at my shop/house. -
Yea, I could easily do that...especially since their house is basically setup for it. I used to pick up wireless internet from their house down at my shop (about 1/2 mile away with a very poor line of sight). I also have a spare 12dBi antenna and router with dd-wrt that I could probably throw up on my roof, aim it at my parents house and get a decent signal. In fact, after reading a few news articles about the strike and how much Verizon has not done yet, I think I'll make that my morning project...
-
The cop didn't do anything, but probably because I knew him. I told him I was just up on the ladder looking for anything obvious - like a completely disconnected or severed wire - didn't touch anything. I explained to him my issue and he understood and was back on his way. Still no FiOS. I've been going to my parents house in the morning with my laptop checking/responding to e-mails and getting my daily CC dose. Only 7 more days until the service technician comes outs...which is a Sunday...wait a second...does Verizon even work on Sunday?!

Dana 44 or Chrysler 8.25???
terrawombat replied to Shane's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
8.25 is going to be easier to find as there are a TON of XJs that got 'em. A complete bolt-in Dana 44 from an MJ can be found, but they're rare and generally fetch a premium unless someone doesn't know what they've got. The 8.25 will need the spring perches relocated, which means you'll need to do some welding on some fairly thick tubing. Strength-wise, you're not going to go wrong with either. Many have said that the 8.25 is just a hair weaker than a D44. -
I won't switch because I am going to be moving soon and don't want to bind myself to another contract. Pit a ladder in the back of my pickup and swapped the port that the FiOS line was on. Made no difference. A passer by decided to be a hero and take my plates down and report me to the police. Also spent an hour on tue phone with verizon last night. They have me scheduled for service on 8/21. Only 9 more days without FiOS. Lol
