Dual horn trucks have 400hz and 500hz horns. I put two stock 400hz horns on my truck fo give it a deeper somewhat louder sound. Don't pull a horn from a YJ it has more of a beep beep sound to it.

clutch brand recommendations?
FrankTheDog replied to teamsmith's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have 200k on a Luk gold clutch in my 98 XJ. It wasn't babied either, I dragged a 1981 Volkwagen Westfalia Camper van from Knoxville Tennessee to CT. Plus a Comanche from Virginia to CT. Also 40k worth of 2nd gear starts because it wouldn't stay in first. Saks would be my second choice. 40k on a YJ when I pulled the Tranny thinking I had a bad slave. Turned out to be a bad master. The machine marks were still on the flywheel. -
Post your vin number in the registry. Not many of our 92's. What is your build date?
-
Speaking of Jags, there is a high end Jaguar restoration shop in town that was working on a similar car when I stopped in. I asked him how much for the resto and he said close to 100k. How much will it be worth when your done? $75,000. Now that's a labor of love.

Some of the 93's and 94's came with a NP 231. That's what mine had. I liked mine enough to keep it from 2001 until 2014.

Look for a 93 built in 92 for an AW4 or a 93 or 94 with an AX15. If your looking at a 4.0 with the Chrysler tranny look for one that's been serviced regularly. I had a 94 4.0 and the tranny was replaced at 90,000 by the PO. I replaced it at 170,000 and 250,000. Other than that it was a great vehicle. Minor electrical trouble at the drivers door hinge was only non normal wear and tear. Delivering pizza I got 16 mpg and regular driving I got 18 mpg. If I could find one with a stick at the right price and condition I'd buy it. Otherwise I'll stick with XJ's and MJ's.

Three different bed sizes?
FrankTheDog replied to Jacob Ochs's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Nice rig and works well for off road, but for a mostly street driven truck that's used as a truck, it's a little to short for me. The second truck is probably a 92, exact same paint as mine. -
Mine said 400Mhz right on it, that's how I knew. I part out XJ's so I always have useful stuff hanging around to use.

Three different bed sizes?
FrankTheDog replied to Jacob Ochs's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
so if I were to take 6"-12" of the back of mine? I'd have to measure. To look right you would have to graft the short bed from the center of the wheel wells on to a long bed cut in the same spot. In my opinion, that would have the best proportions. A long bed has to much behind the rear wheels and a short bed's proportions are just a touch off. It's like the cab and nose are the same length as the bed. It would be nice to see one photochopped to see if I'm right. -
I added the horn to mine, it also only came with one. Most XJ's came with two, they are 400Mhz and 500Mhz. It sounds pretty cool when you use two 400Mhz horns.

A long bed with the short bed distance behind the rear wheels would look just right. -
It's on the fuse panel by the ebrake pedal.

2.5 or 4.0 engine? Auto or manual transmission? 2wd or 4wd?

How do you to tell how hot the MJ is?
FrankTheDog replied to Paul Bruchal's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Easiest way to get the gauges and such is to swap to a gauge cluster with all the gauges. Volts, water temp, oil pressure, fuel gauge, speedo and tach. Look for an 87-90 XJ Laredo in the boneyard and pull the gauge cluster. You also could put a want ad in the classifieds on here. You will also have to replace the pressure switches with sending units for oil pressure and coolant temperature. That's what I did in my 1992 and it worked well. There are write ups on here on how to do it. -
Need advice on wifes TJ
FrankTheDog replied to Dadinator's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you don't hear the fuel pump it's a good bet that the pump is shot. Especially if there were no symptoms before hand. I don't know how you would test it to find out but that's where I would start. -
No low range and no off road? With approximately 400 or so horsepower and street only with no flaming hole shots it would probably live. A better choice without going to a D60 would be a high pinion D44 from a Ford. Even a low pinion D44 from a 86-91 full size wagoneer probably would work fine.

Manual v.s. auto your guys opinions
FrankTheDog replied to Jacob Ochs's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Happened to me once, but if you have a good starter and a fully charged battery, you can drive without the clutch, even from a stop. You lost your master or slave, if your clutch was gone you wouldn't be going anywhere. It would smell burnt too. I guess I'm the opposite, I prefer auto for offroad and stick for the street. I like being able to creep with an auto offroad where with a stick you would be slipping your clutch. On the street I like the stick for being a hooligan. -

95/96 XJ Booster with ABS - will it work?
FrankTheDog replied to 91Pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I disabled the abs on a 2000 XJ. The master cylinder will work fine but you need the distribution block from a non abs. I used one off a 94 XJ and it worked fine. Do yourself a favor and switch over to cunifer brake lines, much easier to work with and longer lasting. -
Everything is new in the factory packaging. The con rods are not in the packaging but are new.
-
Ok, I don't have the part numbers with me but here is what he has. Most everything for a complete rebuild including rods, bearings, heavy duty rockers, pushrods, locks, retainers, damped springs, .030 over pistons, 256 duration .450 lift 108 separation cam with tappets, back cut valves in stock size and stainless backcut valves in 2.030 int 1.56 exh, harmonic balancer, balancer retainer, Pete Jackson gear drive, some maybe all gaskets. Everything is from Mopar Performance parts. And yes, everything is for a 2.5 AMC/Jeep engine. Would prefer to sell as a package if interested.

What are you saying? I'm saying they weren't worth doing all your tips on to make them run better and nearly all of my parts for XJ and MJ's are for HO's. So all the renix jeeps I get end up as donors. They're usually in rough shape requiring to much work. I'm usually the end user of all the vehicles I buy. I've chosen 92-99 HO's to drive about 10 years ago. I've learned how to fix and repair them and I don't need to hire a mechanic 99% of the time.
-
No word from the guy. He's had them for years so it may not be a priority digging them out. So please have patience.
-
Almost alll the renix MJ's and XJ's I've had we're rotted out and on their last legs. Bought them for the Dana 44's that were in them.
